Exercise

Hi all!! Was wondering what kind of exercise do you do on non gym or non strength training days? On Wednesday Friday and Sunday I do strong lifts 5x5 as well as cardio. Was wondering should I also do some cardio on the other days or yoga? Or is it crucial to completely rest those other days? Kinda of curious about this. Thanks in advance.

There is no right answer. It depends on the person. You may find that you can do extra cardio on those days and be fine. You may also find that if you do extra cardio on those days that your muscles are fatigued and you can't lift as well.
I'd say: try it and see.
I like to run, hike, and do yoga on my rest days (with one full rest day a week). At first, I struggled. Lifting made me sore, which hurt my running times. Other times, the running fatigued my legs so lifting was hard. It took some endurance building to be able to comfortably do both without one or the other suffering.0 -
Yep, personal preference.
I started with walking because that is what I did the beginning before joining the gym. From there it was based on cardio goals I had. I made goals to run in things like a 5k and later added a 10k, so in spring 2015 I did couch to 5k, then increased time from there.
This year part of my goal is to try new things. I want to kayak in spring or summer. Right now, the thing I'm going to try is yoga because I've never done an actual class before. I've tried watching a tv show that was a yoga class thing and it was not great cause I had no idea what I was doing and the thin woman on the screen didn't have anyone showing options for poses where ones stomach gets in the way (I was over 200 lbs at the time and even now my stomach is the trouble spot so sticks out). We will see how it goes once coworker figures out when she can have her mom watch her toddler so we can catch a class.0 -

. . . chewing and swallowing?
truth is, i just wing it. if i get into a groove that seems to be working with a particular non-lifting thing, i tend to stay with it until some reason comes along to make me change it up. and post-deadlift days . . . yeah; they quite often are the ones where i'm too busy eating to do more than a couple knee bends while i spread more peanut butter or bake a fresh ox.0 -
Thank u all for responding. I guess I'll see how I feel. ☺️0

On SL rest days I do Kettlebell swings and goblet squats. They are supposed to enhance and strengthen muscles for weight lifters.0

I do SL two days a week and running/biking 4 days a week. Not much biking right now, both because of weather and because I'm training for a half marathon.
Like others said, listen to your body. It takes some practice to know the difference between the voice that just wants you to stay on the couch eating ice cream and watching netflix and the voice that's saying "hey, these muscles really need a day off".0 -
On rest days I play volleyball for a couple of hours or run/walk. I'm trying to do C25K though the weather is making that hard! Anyway last week I tried to do Run at Lunch and 5x5 After Work on my lifting days plus VB on my off days, which ended up exhausting me beyond. But I'm an idiot so trying it again this week, only with maybe slightly more food. Trial and Error.0
