Yeah...fell out of lifting practice, unfortunately. I was very sick in December which is what stopped my progress on all exercise fronts. I should've started back sooner, but I didn't. Unfortunately, this means that I had a major deload to mostly dropping down to starting over. The deadlift and squats started with a little above the bar weight...the rest is zero plates. Sucks, but I'm hoping for no major set backs now and I can move forward. Hopefully I just glide up the weights, though. I was sad when the squats were challenging at such a small amount, though.

These things happen, welcome back!0

Thanks
I'm not one for excuses...but I'm not a quitter, either. So I'll pull myself back up on whatever wagon I fall off of as many times as I need to. Life happens and all that...0 -
Getting back on the wagon is the hardest part, and you've done that. Building back up will be a breeze now.0

Welcome back! Remember how progressive it all is....start steady and you will be where you want to be in no time. No rush!0

Yes, I'm reminding myself that a month from now I may be at or very close to where I left off. Thankfully I'm one of those naturally "strong" people - so the beginning is super easy. The bench/row today was a joke, so I know that will fly up quickly. Squats are my poison, though. I hate them so much.0

I'll join you. I keep saying I am going back, do one session, then nothing for a week or two...repeat. I'm back tonight though.0

LOL - good way to look at it! I'll be sailing up pretty quickly to start. That is kinda nice.I'll join you. I keep saying I am going back, do one session, then nothing for a week or two...repeat. I'm back tonight though.
Awesome - glad to have a partner in crime!0 -
As a newbie, for future reference, do you tend to lose all your muscle as well as the strength when you take a break. If so, how long of a break before you start to see a loss of muscles in the mirror. Just wondering as I don't even have any muscles yet. LOL.0

You definitely don't lose all of your strength/muscle. It varies - here's one of many, many articles. It's probably not the best and likely has variables - but you get the idea. http://www.livestrong.com/article/383660-how-fast-do-you-lose-muscle-by-not-training/0 -
article completely misses how much of a role age plays in it. guess they assume everybody they're talking to must be 20-something. the older you are, the more of a pre-set 'muscle losing' process you already have going on, so you lose ground faster. or so i've been told.0

I snuck back in, too. I had some reasons, which I let turn into excuses, but I'm done with that! I think my life is back on a fairly even keel and I know where my priorities are and how to fit them together.
Like you, my training was pretty sporadic and now that I'm back in the gym, I'm noticing a mix of loss of strength and newbie gains. I feel so weak, but then after a couple of workouts, I notice strength coming back pretty quickly.
Glad to be back!0 -
So far, so good. I lifted twice this week and I plan to lift tomorrow morning for my 3rd session. Two cardio days and I'm hoping to take a cold walk outside tonight with my husband. I am glad to be back in the saddle, it's much better for my mood0

I'm starting StrongLifts on Tuesday (1/26). So ready for this!0

I have had similar thing happen. I had some health problems, which turned into a list of excuses as to why I hadn't picked it back up. I gained back some weight, and lost some strength. I started back just before the new year, and am pleased to find that you get back in the swing of things pretty quickly. I am intentionally progressing slower, so that I can focus on form.0

Really happy to hear so many of us are getting back on board. Whatever the reasons were we stopped, it's ok, just time to go on now0
