Nikki's Journey to Fitness

My story so far: I am 33 and live in Oregon. In February of 2013 I weighed 280 pounds and was beginning to fear for my life. I would cry myself to sleep worried that I might have a heart attack and not wake up. My quality of life sucked. I couldn't do anything without getting winded and didn't want to go out in public. I dreaded running into anybody I knew...all they would think was how fat I had become.
I decided to try Weight Watchers online. I was still eating the same foods but much less of them. I lost 75 pounds over the next year. I hardly ever exercised. As my allotted "points" dropped as I lost weight, I noticed that I was starving and wondered how many calories I was eating. I tracked a day in MFP and was shocked that I was only getting about 1,000 calories per day! I switched over to MFP only and bumped my calories up to around 1,600. I slowly lost another 10 down to 195 where I pretty much maintained throughout 2015.
I put on about 15 pounds over the holidays. I went wild and ate whatever I wanted and it definitely caught up with me. So, here I am. Three years since I began this journey. About halfway to my ultimate goal weight. I feel like this is the beginning of Phase Two. I worked out with a personal trainer for the first time last Wednesday. I was sooo sore Thursday and Friday. Today I'm almost back to normal. I am so out of shape. The workout we did wasn't even much but it kicked my butt. I will be going back every Wednesday. I really hope to see some great progress over the next few months! I have been tracking my calories every day and staying within my goal. I'm ready to get to my goal weight this year. I'm ready to feel fit and confident.

Well I had my second personal training session today. I was able to do more this time which felt good. She said I shouldn't be as sore after today either. Let's hope not!
My diet focus for this week is to add as much protein as possible and start reducing my carbs.
I really hope I can make some big changes before summer. My husband and I will be celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary in May and we're going to Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon. I want to be smaller than when we first met. I weighed 189 back then and I think I was wearing a 16. My high school weight was around 175, size 14. I'd love to be back to that by our trip. I would feel so amazing!
It makes me sad how I completely wasted my 20's being fat and unhappy...hiding from everyone. I don't want to waste anymore of my life. We only get this short time here...I want to fully experience and enjoy it!

You can do it. You've already ahead seeking out a trainer and you have something to work towards. My daughter and family are hiking to the bottom of the canyon this year so they all are trying to get fit. She's helping me with encouragement to stay with my journey. I will gladly cheer you on we all need cheerleaders!!!0

Week 3 with my trainer today. I'm really enjoying getting stronger and being able to do more every time I go. I wish I could work with her 3 times a week. I love having someone push me. I've never been good at pushing myself lol. I think I want to start walking everyday. At least 30 minutes.
I've been sticking to my calories and trying to get protein in at every meal. I'm noticing I can't eat as much...my stomach must be shrinking. Also, I think I'm noticing small positive changes when I look in the mirror. Next stop...smaller jeans!0 -
If you haven't done so take some before pictures that you can reference! I think with a personal trainer pushing you in the right direction you'll be amazed at how fast you see changes.0

Have you considered getting a fitbit to track you steps ?
I have one and it is synced with MFP. It tells you how many calories you have burned. I find the direct feedback really motivating - knowing how many calories I've burned is really satisfying .

@totaldetermination Yes, I've had a Fitbit. I couldn't stand it on my wrist. But I'm thinking about getting a Zip and wearing it somewhere else.0

Damn, I pulled my left quad during personal training today. I'm going to take it easy for a little while and hopefully it'll be good as new soon.
On a positive note, I'm starting to notice that I'm getting the whole squishy fat thing going on. I'm hoping for a big whoosh loss soon!
