Cupcake or oatmeal

I was planning to eat oatmeal, but there's a cupcake in the fridge that I have the compulsion to eat. What are some ways you fight the compulsion that have worked?

Put said item in the garbage can and douse it in soapy water. You could also kill it with fire. I had to remove all temptation from my house or I would devour it all as soon as my family went to sleep.

Thanks. I thought about doing similar destructive things to the cupcake, but thought it was too extreme, but when you say you would eat things like that after your family goes to sleep, that sounds so much like things I do. Cupcake is going in the trash. :):)

I would eat things in a secret shame, then hide it from my family. Its was like I was haunted by it knowing it was in the house, and I could not get peace until I had eaten it. It was pretty bad.

I sneak & eat, too. But for me it's like a secret challenge or a race. How much can I eat before hubby gets out of the bathroom?

As for defeatingbthe compulsion to eat, I usually throw things in the trash, feed things to the dogs/chickens, or try to imagine the thing decomposing. Yuck.

I try to remove all foods that I can't handle from my house. But I work in a preschool, so there are always cookies, candy, and goodies close at hand. Stress is something that triggers me, and a room full of three year old kids is stressful! So I try to keep things like celery, grapes, or carrots in arms reach. Otherwise, I will eat my way through the day.
