Tracking when eating out

One of my biggest struggles is tracking my calories if I eat out or order out. I don't eat out often but if I do it's typically locally owned restaurant and they rarely have nutrition info.
If I know I will be eating out I eat small healthy meals for my other meals. I also try to make sure that I get some kind of activity logged for the day. I feel like that helps me make better decisions while I'm out and gives me a little buffer as far as calories.
What does everyone else do about this?

Since I just recently started here I have only encountered that situation once, and kept my portions small. But I think the site has an app, that you can put on your phone, for such situations. I haven't done the app yet, though, so I'm not sure what it's like to actually use it. Good luck!

I like to go to my local Chinese takeout place and get hunan chicken. Obviously I have no way of knowing how many calories are in their version. My solution is to go ahead and search for Hunan chicken in MFP and I usually choose the highest calorie option I find. This satisfies me.
