Hello, I'm trying to motivate myself to begin the Walk at Home DVDs again. I have several, but will start with the one-mile Walk Down Your Blood Sugar DVD. I'm looking forward to doing the videos again, but am scared I'll be very disappointed in myself if I can't finish the entire mile. It does give me a goal to work toward, though...0

Hi and welcome myfathersfields.
Have you been able to get any walking in? How is it going?
I have been thinking about you, and I had a couple of ideas that you might want to try.
(BTW I have only been at this a month, and when I started I did not know how well I could do either, so I am just slowly increasing my time and distance.)
I would suggest that you not even worry yet about making it all the way through the DVD.
Make it your goal to just put it on every day. Just start.
Then for the first week see each day how far you can go. Get yourself a baseline.
I know that the DVD's I have, have part-mile markers along the way, so it's pretty easy to see how you far go, or set a stop watch (or stove timer) and just see how far you are comfortable going. Just do that for the first week.
Then the next week add a tiny bit - like maybe 2 more minutes. And each week try a bit more.
I know that once I start I try to push myself to just go a tiny bit further.
I have also noted that on YouTube Leslie has 1 walk that is 500 steps. I noted it a few weeks ago, and I haven't done it. I know her idea behind it was to help people top up their 10000 steps, but it might also be a great routine to try when you are starting out. (I understand that 2000 steps = 1 mile for most people, so 500 would be about 1/4 mile.)
Whatever you decide to do, I wish you the best.
I feel so much better just having started. I hope you do too.

Thank you so much for your suggestions! I never thought about "Walk at Home" being on YouTube, so thanks for mentioning that. I might be able to try her 500-step walk program via YouTube on Netflix (which we received as a Christmas gift). It's nice to have the option to access a new video that might motivate me to start again. Congratulations on starting to work out! It's neat that you started!0

Thanks also for the suggested to just put the DVD in, or just watch the video. I think I'll feel better if I familiarize myself with what's expected before actually doing the video myself...0

It's a beautiful day--I put in my Walk at Home video for the first time in a long time! I completed a modified version of the one-mile walk, completing 500 steps per Hollyhock's suggestion above. Technical difficulties prevented me from accessing Netflix for the newer walks on YouTube, so I fell back to my original DVD. Thank you so much for the suggestions, and wonderful support! ☺️1
