Why Do you Box?

Are you a fighter (amateur or pro) or just trying to get in shape? How often are you in the gym? What do your training sessions look like? Do you do anything on days you're not in the gym (running, ab work, jump rope)?

Is this group meant for people who actually fight, or for people that just like to box for exercise as well?1

I'll start by saying that I am not an amateur or pro, but I like boxing (kick me out if you need to).
My first foray into boxing wasn't really boxing. I was a wimp, and so was my friend. One day, in high school, one of the bigger kids began treating my friend's twin sister badly (bullying her and whatnot). So we determined that my friend would have to fight him. We also determined that my friend was going to get his butt kicked. In order to lessen the beating he was about to receive, we began training. I say training, but it was really just the two of us with two pairs of gloves beating the hell out of each other in our back yard until we were tired (No mouth pieces, no headgear, no timers, etc.). My friend never ended up fighting the kid, but I loved the idea of boxing ever since. We used to bring out the gloves at parties and fight each other for entertainment. It was a fun time.
Later on, when I was about 26 I actually went to a trainer and began to learn. Now, 12 years and three kids later, I box for exercise. It is the only type of workout which I enjoy doing at the house. I hope to one day pass it on to my kids.1 -

That's great. Have you ever heard of the 10000 hour rule?0
