Back fracture set back

Hello fellow MFPers! Three years ago I was thrown from my horse, alone in the pasture I thought it was just a vertebra out of place and tried to round up my horse and go home to rest. To my surprise it wasn't a popped vertebra at all but a compression fracture to my lumbar 1 (L1) the vertebra right at the curve of your lower back, anyway, after many hospital visits and rehab lessons later i found out that when doing a crunch my back pops. It doesn't hurt but I cant imagine that is very good on it. My fitness level has declined a lot, does anyone know any alternatives to the crunch and moves like it i could use to work on my abs?
Thank you a lot,
-Kaley

I also hurt my lower back and it is hard to stay in shape when you have this type of injury. One exercise I have really found helpful is the Cable Crunches. Give it a try it is less aggressive on the lower back. Thans0
