Sites offering rewards for being active

Saw an advert on FB yesterday for something called Cycling Heroes, a website that links to all the usual GPS tracking sites and then awards you points for activity which can then be spent on rewards from partners. There also seems to be a running one from the same people and also plenty of others in the same vein.

Does anyone use these? are they worth the trouble?

I use bounts which tracks through all the usual bits n bobs and have found that to be worthwhile. It doesn't cost anything and so far this year I have walked/run my way to £30 in vouchers! The vouchers available are not for random places either, I've exchanged my points for Costa coffee and Amazon vouchers so far.

I know someone who uses running heroes and they like that too but I couldn't comment as I haven't used it.

Thanks - I've just signed up for running heroes and mostly offers discounts at places, (e.g. 20% off), rather than specific monetary value vouchers - still not to be sniffed at and will be great when it comes to replacing running/cycling gear. Bounts looks better but having problems signing up, (when I click the confirm link in the email, the website comes up with a message saying the email address could not be verified!?!) - will try again later.

Good to see that these things are worthwhile, will have a look into them.

I've a friend who uses Bounts and they seem to think it's pretty good so I might sign up for that, the idea of getting free stuff for doing nothing extra appeals to me (even if I know they're probably just data farming).

I use Bounts. Saved my points until Christmas last year when I spent them in the supermarket. I had £50.00. I am almost at £50.00 again for this Christmas too. It certainly is worth it. If you are cycling or walking or whatever anyway, you might as well get paid for it.

p.s. Anyone who is considering signing up for runningheroes.com can use my referral link https://uk.runningheroes.com/?r=1&code=ls9v if they want and we'll both get a 25-point bonus.

If you're already registered you can go to "Activate bonus code" in the menu and put in code "ls9v" for us both to receive the same bonus.

I've never heard of this, but I can definitely do with the extra motivation. Thanks for starting the thread!

I started using Bounts, but it was killing my battery life so I decided not to. Unless some can tell me how to save my battery life?

Hi Lois, you dont need to have bounts at all on your phone. Once I had connected it to fitbit and Strava I got rid of the app and only log in on my computer. You only have to log in every few days to refresh your balance and spin the wheel thingy.

Out of interest do you guys pay for the premium version or just the free one?

I don't want to pay any subscriptions and I am wondering if it'll be worth my while getting a handful of points a day.

Oh that's interesting! I'm tempted to get it back now.

No I had the free version. I don't feel too dedicated (obviously) to pay extra.

I had no idea this was even a thing! I've just signed up for running heroes and bounts using @sussexbythesea and @dkabambe's codes. Can't wait to see how this all works out :)

That's an excellent point - presuming I can get my Garmin account to talk to these then there's nothing to stop me (or anyone else) from signing up to more than one of these things
