so... I come from a fairly traditional second generation Mexican American family... we really were raised on rice and beans, and weird things like fried bologna, hot dogs and potatoes, and foods that led to my poor eating habits. A life time of that, and inconsistant exercise led me to hypertension obesity high cholesterol and eventually a stroke....and I'm young! Only in my 50's. I can never go back and change things, so I'm moving forward. I'm using MFP to analyze my daily intake, and have taken up running with my adorable sister...it's been 5 months now...I feel better, have run several 5Ks, my cholesterol and BP are down and my body is STARTING to shift a bit...
I feel like this is a forever thing, sometimes emowering, sometimes burdonsome...
How about you? Why are you doing this?

My parents were born in Mexico and I grew up on all that unhealthy but delicious Mexican food. However, I am aware of all the illnesses associated with this unhealthy lifestyle and I have always wanted to make changes. My mom is 57 and had a stroke 2 years ago. I've been trying to change my parents eating habits but they won't budge and think its all about portion control...not true. Anyway, I am hoping that by changing my lifestyle and getting more fit and healthier I can prove to them that it is possible!0
