Borderline GD

Hi everyone, I just had my glucose test and based on my results I look to have borderline GD. Is there anything I can do about it besides watch what I eat and exercise? I have not had a talk with my doctor about it and I didn't fail any of the tests but I want to get in under control even if they say everything is okay.

@raingirl21 Just curious, was this after the 1 hour or did you have to do a 3 hour? The only reason I ask is with my first I "failed" the 1 hours - cut off is 145 and I was 147. But when I did the 3 hour my numbers were almost perfect. I would think mostly just watching what you eat and exercise would be the best way to keep it in check. Did your doctor not give you any advice?0

It was a 2 hour test. I haven't talked to my doc yet, but I'm sure it will come up. I'm trying to take a proactive approach to this and get it lower for my health, my sons and in case I need to do the 3 hour test.0

I've had GD twice. I'm 6wks now with my third and I'm praying for a miracle that I don't get it again. Are you UK or US? Are you now testing after every meal? The advice is often to go most lower carb at breakfast as that is the time your body may find it harder to produce insulin. Lunch and dinner moderate carbs - whole grain where possible, but making protein and veggies the larger portions. Limit fruit and when snacking always have a protein with a carb (peanut butter and apple, nuts and satsuma etc). Also going for a walk after a large meal helps. It's a very personal disease as some people I know could eat burger and chips with ok bs results but for me I had to go completely carb free and ended up on insulin even though my initial results were only borderline.0

@obiasmummy I am in the US and am not testing currently, it was just the test in the doctor's office. Thanks for the advice on when to eat my carbs, I will start lowering my breakfast carbs. For snacks I do try to have a protein for each with my fruit. I love my fruit! Although its natural, that's where I get a lot of my sugars.0

Good luck and keep me posted on how it progresses (or hopefully doesn't!) for you. If you like a lot of fruit try making some swaps to berries, melon, grapefruit - I couldn't eat bananas x0
