Hi guys! I'm Cole. I have 122lbs to lose. I haven't weighed myself since before I began my journey in January. Trying to eat intuitively and pay attention to what my body likes, wants and thrives on. I'm counting calories on the Ketogenic diet. I've been logging consistently since January and it's paying off. Feel free to add me guys!
Yay! A fellow ketoer! Welcome0 -
Hi! I'm Bridget. I'm single at 37 and mom to 6 spoiled rotten cats. I have been obese my entire life, struggling with thyroid issues and PCOS and resulting self esteem issues. I've always been rather shy and kept to myself, so never had many friends, and tend to go it alone in many ways, though I've always wanted to connect to others better - so here I am, trying something new!
I love to read and would love to write, though my muse isn't very cooperative on that front, and I spend way too much of my time in a world in my head I mostly stick to Christian fiction and read inspirational westerns and a little Christian fantasy, though I do love a good Louis LaMour western and a good adventure classic such as Kidnapped or Treasure Island. I'm not a tv or movie person, and when I do watch TV or movies, it's usually oldies - I dearly love Bonanza (1st 6 seasons only), Big Valley, Snowy River: the MacGregor Saga and the New World Zorro from the late 80's. Favorite movies are the Lord of the Rings trilogies and the 1st Hobbit movie as well as Return to Snowy River. I don't have TV - no cable, no satellite, and no antenna - but I spend way, way too much time online, researching a rather eclectic survey of topics from linguistics to historical subjects, to science. And I'm a closet LOTRO junkie - I swear that's the only MMO I dabble in, though! Or rather, a not-so-secret LOTR junkie period! lol
I like working outside, planting flowers and such, when the weather isn't too hot, and like puttering around the house, working on various projects, such as making new doors for my shed, replacing the steps going to my basement, etc. I like to sew as well, and dabble in quilting and cross stitch. I'm a horrible procrastinator, though, so I have tons of patterns and materials laying around I would like to get a scroll saw and try my hand at intarsia one of these days. And I play piano decently and am the pianist for my small church on Sundays - but I'm a country pianist.5 -
Hey my name is Tiffany, I'm 19 and like a lot of people in here, I've been overweight for the vast majority of my life. As a kid I was just a little chunky, but I soon found that I cared less about sports and more about video games. I've never really been great at reaching out and talking to people, so I really enjoyed a hobby in which I could just be by myself and forget about everything else. The person above me mentioned playing an MMO haha. I was hooked on WoW for 9 years until a few months into the WoD expansion. (Just over two years ago.) Imagine your tank/party leader being a 10 year old girl.
Anyway, for pretty much my entire life I've depended strongly on canned and frozen microwaveable meals for lunch and often dinner. The ones we had weren't high in calories, but neither did they give any sort of satisfaction. I would binge on snacks to try and fill up, and always had second- and sometimes third helpings to dinner. I've had inspiration to lose the weight before, but I found what I was eating for lunch played an immense factor in the difficulty of losing the weight.
So, I now split my daily caloric intake between two meals and have completely eliminated snacking until further notice, as it makes me want to binge. Having 700 calories worth of chicken/rice/peas for lunch feels like I'm spoiling myself compared to what I've eaten in the past. I get the urge to snack occasionally but so far it's been easy to suppress, and I feel great so far I've also only been drinking water, but I cheat once a class day with those flavored packets at the expense of 10 calories so I don't withdraw back to sweet tea. I haven't touched the microwave in over a week, and I don't think I've ever touched a skillet this much in all of the previous years of my life.
SW: 228.2 pounds
CW: (the scale is trying to tell me everything from 170 to 200 to 0 so I have no clue. I'm only a week and a half in though, so by counting calories I should be around 224-226. It took me a couple of days to center in on ~1000-1400 calories)
GW: long term is 130, short term is under 200 by the end of May. I love food so I want to take it somewhat slow ;-;
I'm fortunate enough that I am finding it very easy to watch my caloric intake simply by using this app to deter myself from binging, and can eat 1200-1400 calories a day without much stress. I never feel full but I'm usually content.
Sorry for my long post haha. I could write a book in facebook messages while my friends are ark5 -
Hi, Jarchii! Now the question is: did your raid team KNOW you were a 10 year old girl? I'm not usually a video gamer myself, and LOTRO is the only MMO that I've never been interested in, but it has definitely sucked me in all the same!
Good luck and best wishes! I'm finding that its all in finding a system that works for you and that you can do - there are tons of diet plans out there, and some work for some people but not for others. My brother says he couldn't stand calorie counting, but does well with a high carb/low carb plan that switches back and forth and in working out. Me? I couldn't take the swings like that and prefer calorie counting. But what he's doing is working for him, and what I'm doing is working for me, so we're both doing good!0 -
Haha it took me a few years later to start raiding due to the weekly schedules most guilds had. Most guild raided past my bed time ;v; I did lead heroics though, but I never dared to get on ventrillo (ye olde discord/teamspeak) until I was 14. I wasn't comfortable announcing my real age on the internet until 15. Hell I was 16 for like four years and then 15 and then 16 again lol.Good times.
And yeah I'm taking it easy. Like right now I just ate 9.5 ounces of chicken instead of 8 along with the usual rice and peas because I didn't want to throw the extras out. But I'm not stressing because it just means eat a little less at dinner. Really loving having a large lunch over snacking on trash throughout the day I enjoy counting calories when it's simple. This app and two meals keeps it super simple so1 -
I've never gotten into raiding - I'm shy and the raiders are very hard core! I prefer to meander around the virtual world solo so I can go at my own pace, and if I mess up, I don't affect anyone else!
I've been there, too, with the extras thing Since my roommate moved out, and since I've never managed to land a boyfriend let alone a husband, I'm shopping for one. But there's a benefit in that can only get what I know I need and can eat - no junk! - and I plan all my meals out the week before so I narrow my shopping down. For meats, I've found that it might cost me a little extra, but by getting my cuts at the meat counter, I can get my meat and fish in much closer portion sizes already wrapped for me and ready to go - instead of having to try to eyeball it myself!2 -
Welcome to all the new people! Love reading your introductions. And nice to see there are a couple fellow gamers too lol. I played WoW until after WotLK, then GW2, FFXIV, and BnS. Sadly I haven't had much time for gaming in a long while. Anyway, I wanted to say hello and hope you all have a great day!2

Hey everyone! I'm Jay. I'm 34 and have a total of 120 pounds to lose. I started on Feb 2 2017, and have lost about 15 pounds so far! I'm alternating between proud of myself and feeling great, and feeling skeptical and wondering how long it will last.
I love to eat and cook, and I have fun every day thinking about what I'm gonna make for dinner that evening. My main challenge is PORTION CONTROL. If there's food in front of me, I'm gonna eat it, so I'm working on cooking appropriate amounts of food. Logging everything carefully in MFP is really helping on that front. I had no idea how many calories and how much sodium I was eating!
After I eat dinner, I've started making my breakfast, lunch, and snacks for work the next day. It's working great, and with this method I've been able to cut fast food out of my life! I attribute most of my weight loss thus far to this change in habit.
I've also started taking walks! I'm walking between 2-4 miles almost every day, and to this I attribute my increase in energy!9 -
Hi everyone! My name is Brandi. I've been overweight for a LONG time. I'm 36 years old and have three kiddos all under age 8. (8, 4, and 1). I've kinda let myself go since having them. I'm a short 5'3" and weighed in at 247 when I started this (again) two weeks ago. So far I've lost just over 7lbs. I hope to lose 100 lbs and then re-evaluate and possibly lose more. I would love to get down to my college years weight of 125. I'm determined, but need accountability as well as see others' progress. Please feel free to add me!12

Hello, Everyone!! My name is Christine. I've been reading all your introductions and it's made me feel better about my situation. I AM NOT ALONE!! Thank you everyone for being brave enough to share your stories because now I'm not ashamed to share mine.
I am 41 years old, 5'2ish", and currently weight 250.8 lbs as of this morning. My goal is to start off slow and just set small goals, although ultimately I'm looking to lose 125 lbs. My first goal is to lost 10% of my current weight by the end of the summer, so by August 31, 2017. My plan to accomplish this is by making small changes to my life. The first two changes are to drink more water (at least 64 oz a day) and write down everything I eat and/or drink. Based on my past experiences, I know that being on an uber strict diet doesn't work for me as well as making changes over time.
Anyway, that's me. Thank you for listening to me rant. I can't wait to see where this journey takes us all.9 -
Hello! Names Tiffany, I'm 30, and I have to loose 150+! I've recently been diagnosed with a number of spinal conditions and I can no longer make excuses. I'm vegan.5

Hello everyone!
Weight has always been a bit of a struggle for me (runs in the family). Some years I mastered it better than others. The last 5yrs were pretty tough on my body & was diagnosed with myofascial pain syndrome (very similar to fybromialgia). I was already overweight and I ended up adding on about 60lbs during that time.
So I've decided to make this year about getting my health back!! I'm making it a top priority. Back in the day I used to love to work out & want to feel that way about it again too!
Height: 5'3"
SW: 253.4
CW: 139.4
GW: 150 (the last time I weighed this, I was around 19yrs old)
Feel free to add me! I'm always happy for more encouraging friends to walk this weight loss journey with.5 -
G'day Friends! My name is Stacey and Im really just here to show you that if you want to loose 100lbs then you totally can! But you have to really want it, like more than anything else. You also have to be prepared and know that the road to success is not straight up, it has twists, backflips and u-turns. You will fall off the wagon, gain back some weight and then feel like crap and go eat more cause you did. Just see it this way, when you do fall off the wagon you have to get back on. Its like going on vacation and taking a wrong turn, do you just turn go home and not go on vacation? No, you get back on track until you reach your destination. If you get a flat tire, do you just puncture the other three tires and stay where you are? No, you fix that one and move on.
I was obese my entire life, and by that I mean through primary school, high school and then as an adult until about 7 years ago ( I was 29), I was fat at 315lbs, with two kids going down the same track I had. So I changed my life, not all at once but very slowly to include healthy habits that I could live with. I stress that I COULD LIVE WITH! Cause my life is not your life! We have our own struggles, our own things we deal with. In no way is my life harder or easier than yours, just different.
I hope that I can be of some help to any or all of you. Add me if you like, I myself have had a set back with a dislocation in my right shoulder so yes, Ive gained back some weight with my feeling sorry for myself and not being able to deadlift and bench and squat with the guys at my gym. But that said, I wont let that stop me from being a badass and doing what each and everyone of you is capable of, picking myself up, pulling on my big girl knickers and getting on with it.
All the best, really! Its hard, and it sucks and if it was easy everyone would be doing it!
Pain is temporary but health can last a lifetime!!!9 -
Hey everyone,
My name is James, and my weight has steadily gotten worse since college. Just after Christmas, I joined a gym and stepped on the scale... 270lbs... ouch. At 5'4" that is a scary number, I was literally carrying around a second person with me.
Now after two months I am sitting here at 233.1lbs, and ready to drop some more. I'm sick of being tired when chasing my 2 and 3 year old children, and frankly I want to live long enough to enjoy any future grandchildren they have.
What has worked for me so far:
1. No sodas, period
2. Hit the gym 3 days a week for 30min weights, 15min cardio
3. 30min walk every night before bedtime
4. Track everything i eat
5. Everytime I think about having a snack, I drink a glass of water, and then ask myself if i want to gain XX calories, or do I want to lose xx calories. I pick "lose" more than I would have expected
6. Recognize that one mistake does not equal a ruined day, week, or month. No more revenge binge.

CW- 233.1
GW- 150 or whatever feels right
I am proud of everyone in this group, let's do this together.15 -
Hi all!
I'm 27 years old, have been overweight for as long as I can remember, but things really got out of control when I moved away from home 7 years ago. Since then I've been trying to do something about it several times but haven't been able to really go the distance. I just started again this monday after a long hiatus, and I have every intention to make it to the finish line this time. Have about 130lbs to lose, give or take a few. It's not going to be easy, but with hard work, a positive attitude and good support i'm sure it can be done. So let's do this!
Also, feel free to add me if you want6 -
Ola, I'm a middle-aged woman, and like many of the folks who have posted here, I have been overweight since I was in pre-school. I have done the same yo-yo diet thing that so many people have done, but with the help of a medical weight-loss firm and MFP, I am making real progress. I am 5'5" and needed to lose about 140 lbs total.

I've been doing this since early December of 2015, and I've lost 80 lbs so far, mostly with calorie restriction alone. My current challenge is exercise, I'm really struggling to do it consistently, but I knew that I had to make one change at a time, and food was the far more important change to make first. I have PTSD from childhood trauma, and it took a lot of time to figure out how to deal with the PTSD triggers without food. I'm happy to be a part of this group, and I'm looking forward to talking with all of you. I love to read, and write, and loved LOTR, but haven't gotten into the online portions (yet).8 -
You love LOTR?!!! I think you and I will be fast friends So are you a book fan, movie fan, or do you appreciate qualities of both and just don't compare them?1
-
I'm a bit LOTR fan as well. Loved the books, then many years later I bought the audio CDs for cross country trips between Washington and Wyoming, then the well made movies came out.0
-
Who doesn't love LOTR (OK! I'm sure some people don't but I like to pretend that's not so ) I read the books in my teenage years and thought the movies were really well done!1
-
I absolutely loved both the books and the movies. I kinda wish they might do a movie on The Silmarillion. The Hobbit movies were good, but I feel like they were too unnecessarily "stretched out" over three films.1
