Introductions and Goals

Hi all! Please share something about yourself and what you have in mind for fitness goals in 2017.

I'll go first!

My name is Rae and I'm from the beautiful state of Oregon, USA.

I'm a married empty-nester with a wonderful active husband and two very spoiled furbabies. I retired about 2 years ago and found the weight slowly creeping on bit by bit. I had a desk job but was active as much as possible while I was working - always taking the stairs instead of elevator, walking on my breaks and lunches, swimming after work. Once I didn't have that regular routine it was easier to just kick back and be a little lazy. That resulted in about a 30 pound weight gain in the first 6 months! So, I joined MFP and decided to get busy. I've still got about 10-12 pounds to my goal weight, but I'm having a lot of fun doing it!

My favorite ways to exercise are aqua aerobics, walking, disc golf, road races and all sorts of YouTube workout videos. I participate in quite a few challenges here on MFP so that gives me a ton of variety with workouts and I've met some great people, as well.

My main goal is to reach my final goal weight this year. I'm also planning to do several 5K's and at least one 10K in 2017.

    Hi! My name is Tiffany, and I'm a 19 year old college freshman living in Florida. I plan to major in biology, and hopefully go on to med school :smile: I plan to start volunteering at a hospital, so that'll have me on my feet!

    I've always been chunky, but I don't think I pushed overweight until middle school. I didn't really fully understand how gaining weight worked, so I thought it was normal to go up a size every summer, even in high school. I'm an extreme introvert and have battled depression for as long as I can remember, and I feel like part of that might be because I have issues liking my body. Sometimes I can look in the mirror and love my curves, but then when I turn to the side and see the back rolls, no thanks haha.

    A lot of people who are successful in losing the weight after a life of obesity mention a moment when something "clicked" for them. I had my "click" a little over a month ago when thinking about this guy I like. How could I expect someone to want to take care of and love me if I couldn't even take care of myself? Even though I can look in the mirror and love my curves, I am absolutely disgusted by any photograph that captures my entire body. I really want the self confidence that comes with liking how you look, and not having to constantly pull down your shirt and be self aware. I used to hide in big jackets every day regardless of how hot it was.

    As for fitness goals for 2017, I would really like to complete c25k. Right now my sweat pants fall down when I run and my shoes don't fit as well as they should, and I don't have money to replace them, so I don't feel comfortable trying it. I'm thinking getting the proper supplies would be a good milestone gift to myself once I get under 200 pounds. I miss all of the energy I had as a kid, when I could run and not feel so much pain everywhere. I look forward to hopefully getting it back :smile: this isn't my first time trying to lose weight, but it's the first time I've ever stuck with it for this long and made real progress.

    Hi! My name is Ellen. I am 57 and have struggled the past 10 years or so with my weight. I need to lose weight for my health but have real trouble with stress eating. I have a super stressful job with a long commute. I am interviewing for a remote position that would give me time to excersize every day. Fingers crossed!
