Hey everyone! I am going shoe shopping for my first legit pair of running shoes, and wonder if you have any advice or guidance!

Initially I was wearing whatever was cheap while I was first just getting into running, before I was sure I would really be Invested.

Go to a real running store with folks who know what they are doing, get advice from them. It makes a huge difference.

Go to a running shoe store, tell the salesperson there that you are getting your first pair or "real" running shoes, that you'd like a gait analysis, and fitting. They should inquire about the the type of surface you do most of your running on (concrete sidewalk, macadam roadway, park paths et al.). Don't be shy about explaining your cost limits. Tell them of any problems you may have encountered with the shoes you have been wearing, and what those shoes were. If the store is reasonably local to you, and it's likely you'll be a repeat customer, they should be able to fit you right, and be competitive with Amazon. It seems, at the store I go to, which is closer than most of my runs (one way) the right shoes are always on sale. In any event it is a great comfort to know that these are the shoes, or one of the shoes, that are right for your feet and fit correctly. If the store is not local to you, you may spend more than you absolutely have to, but you can mail order similar shoes in the future. Have fun.

Thanks everyone for the tips! I went to a great and recommended running shoe store in my town. The gal fitted me for shoes by looking at my arches and feet. I was a little skeptical but she seemed to know what she was talking about. In the end I got myself a pair of Brooks on a great sale, and some free swag! I'm very happy and can't wait to break them in!
