Alta HR - questions.

Just got my first ever Fitbit yesterday. An Alta HR. When I charged it up it already had a calorie burn of 1200 on it but no steps or distance obviously. Overnight it's logged me over 150 steps while I've been asleep and a 500 calorie burn. Is that amount of calories accurate for a person asleep for 7hrs? I presume it resets at midnight? I got the Alta as I wanted an accurate idea of my calories burned versus how many I'm consuming. How accurate is it & has anyone got any tips for making the most out of the features, overcoming niggles etc?
Many thanks.
Many thanks.

The calorie burns include your BMR - the calories you burn existing. I've burned about 500 when I'm up at 6 am, too. The steps is associated from movement in your sleep, it's an imperfect system that doesn't actually go off of steps but the movement of your arm. I'm guessing your initial 1200 calorie burn was because it was the middle of the day. That being said, I found leaving the HR function running gave me grossly inflated daily burns so after the first week I turned it off and only turn it on if I am doing intentional cardio. It's been more inline with previous calculations and expected losses.2
