Hello fellow fitbit users! I'm new to fitbit, just got my alta hr yesterday so I figured id go for abit of a walk to test it out today. Walk was lovley, however, when I got home and synced the data fitbit showed me as having burned 358 cal

where as when it synced to mfp it shows 227cals of exercise.

This seems to me to be quite a huge difference and I'm not sure what value to go by? If someone more experienced with fitbits than me could advise me on this issue id be really grateful, thanks!

When you sync your Fitbit, MFP reads the calories you've burned up to that point and estimates how much over or under maintenance you will burn for the entire day. So even if you burned 358 calories during your walk, it took your total calories and determined that you would burn 227 calories above maintenance at the level of activity you're partaking in. One caveat with this is being your first day with Fitbit, it will take a couple of weeks for your Fitbit to truly learn your movements and calories.

This should also be addressed in the FAQ pinned at the top of this page.

Fitbit does not send workouts to MFP. Simple as that. You are comparing apples and oranges. Yes they look different - because they are.

Fitbit merely sends the total calorie burn up to that point of the day. (and steps)

MFP then does math with the calorie burn. Steps it displays.

That adjustment may be on the Exercise Diary - but that is only so MFP can correct itself with it - it is not just exercise - or perhaps none.

You could have an active day and no workout and have a big adjustment.
You could have a hard workout and be dead tired later and have no adjustment.
