Chiwawa River Road (pics)

A few years ago I spent a night at Spider Meadow, several miles up the trail at the end of Chiwawa River Road. The hike was lovely, and a lot of the road in was pretty, too. It's been on my list for a while, and I finally rode it yesterday.
Well, most of it - I got a late start, the road was slow going, and I had to turn around about a mile shy of the end. It was a glorious failure.
The sun set almost an hour before I got back to my car. It's July, sunset is 9 pm. There were stars out when I finished. Most of the ride was pretty lonesome - I had the road to myself almost every minute of the trip. Scenery was fantastic. It was the kind of ride that felt like hiking.
All told, this was 44 miles: 20 of pavement, 24 of sandy gravel with occasional moments of hard packed dirt. I did it on 28 mm tires, I never had serious trouble but parts of the road got tedious.

Amazing photos! That third one is just beautiful!! It should be framed on a wall somewhere. Thanks for sharing! Sounds like a great ride.0
