80 Day Obsession Day 5 today - Legs

    Adam, did you start yet?
I am sneaky sore. Like when you bend over and you go oh hello glutes! Today was legs, quads are a little sore. Definitely, go heavy weights and I had to go buy heavy duty bands. I broke mine Monday already- not even finished the first week yet.

Remember how Hammer and Chisel was tons of legs, this is tons of glutes.
Liking it so far but will take the rest day to hit shoulders, arms, and core once more.

Everyone is so excited here, hard not to be too!
    Have a good one guys!

Here we are. Finished day 6 of the body beast this morning. Rest 2morrow. Not eating well and not really even trying. I figure since I walk 10+ miles a day and don't want 2 lose weight, y try? That's probably just excuses not 2 try tho.

Keith said something in his email about the timing of this reunion being perfect, and I have 2 agree. The past couple of years have been tough and I began using Tabacco again about a year ago. Right around Christmas I decided 2 try 2 quit again. Last week when Kim contacted me, I was really struggling with cravings due 2 other stress factors in my life. Kim talked me off the edge.

Really glad we back. Not sure it'll ever b the same as it was, but at least we r headed in the right direction.

Plyo X yesterday and CS&Tris today. Kind of surprised. This workout right now is harder for me than Back&Bis, which it never was before. Old numbers were just 'up there' I guess, but something to improve on. Getting closer today, but one-arm and plyo pushups both went to failure. Feeling the burn!

Kim: Great job with Obsession! Gotta 'love' the first week soreness. Glad it's going well for you. H&C was a TON of legs. My left knee still 'creaks' from all that H&C leg work.

Vandal: Congrats on wrapping up Day 6! Good luck with getting off tobacco. Can only imagine how hard it can be. Just take it one day at a time. You got this!!!

    Have a good one everyone!

    Guys:

Vandal says "Not sure it'll ever b the same as it was" - he's right it's not going to be!

It's going to be SO MUCH BETTER because we are committed to each other, we have grown up together in a kinda weird -whatever way.

We all celebrated and struggled with life situations and we all manage to find our way back to each other and stay in touch for one reason or another.

I have no answer but I am beyond grateful for all of you because I know I could email any one of you and you would all talk to me and help me any way you could.

    We are a FAMILY!!!!

    So with that being said.

Let's kick some *kitten* my brothers!!!!!!!!

Yoga day here. I use the Blissology 6DVD set frequently. Sounds cheesy, but they do a good job with it. Most are 45-55 minutes.

Kim: Great post! So true. You're awesome! LOL about getting censored to....

Vandal: Looks like the 4th button from the right is the 'image attached' button.

Legs&Back to today. Good milestone...was finally able to hit my old pull-up record on this. Now, just got to beat it next week.

Vandal: Great job with Chest and Tris, and way to fight to stay clean. I just use the web page, so could be a limitation with the app. Really have to check out the appfinally.

    Have a good Superbowl weekend!

Hey all, I had some trouble getting on here but I finally got it to work. Taking a break working the graveyard shift, I can’t seem to get away from shift work! Lol
Yesterday I ran 4 miles, it felt pretty good. When I get off work I am hitting the weights, it’s a back day. I am using ActivTrax app on my phone. So far the workouts are pretty good as they are full body but do focus more on one part of the body each day.
I am going to do this for a couple more weeks and then jump into some P90X.
As for my other training, martial arts have been on hold, a little her and there. I’m going to try to add a little more time to that too.
I’m starting to get settled in to the new house but still have lots to do. I’m still learning the area and things to do here. It sucked missing hunting season, I can tell you that!

Anyway, I have to go. Great work so far and enjoy the game, I am going to work right at the end... Sucks!

    Later!

Kim: Congrats on the Eagles win!!! That was a pretty epic game. Very happy for you!!!

Scott: Ugh, that sucks about the shift work. Congrats on the solid run there! You're in Virginia now? I do know some hunters there in the Hampton Roads area, if you're anywhere close to there. Hang in there.

Decided to finally take a P90X recovery week I skipped a few weeks ago. Going to be a busy one with my wife out of town for work. Plus, have a few minor aches that could use the break. Started with X Stretch, which was enjoyable. Did Tapout Sprawl & Brawl on Saturday. Maybe my all time favorite Kenpo Replacement.

    Have a good one!

    Hey guys!

What a game! I think they are going to burn down Philly tomorrow - they are estimating 3 million people I heard something insane like that. 3,529 people per port a potty ICK!!!

I have not worked out I actually thought I was hungover until the body aches and chills crushed me. Still have them today. PRAYING it does not turn into flu.

Adam, someday you owe me dinner!!!!

Vandal, how's the diet???????? Hope you enjoyed that chocolate ice cream you shared with me!

Aby, I can not describe the feeling but I was crazy happy for your baseball team now I know how you felt!

John, recover! Enjoy your time off.

I sooooo should have bet dive-bomber pushups but the thought still haunts me!!!!!

    Have a great day guys!

    Sup gang?

I have been working out daily and resting on my scheduled rest days which is new for me since I used to do yoga on rest days. The initial soreness is gone, but the weights I put up or not even close to the old me, but I'm not the old me, so I'll go with it.

Today was Build Legs (ouch) followed by 17 miles (according to my watch) of walking in 4-6" of snow. Leg day was a bad idea.

John, the numbers you continue to put up are insane. Enjoy the recovery my friend. Also, i see the add picture button on the web page, the pic I wanted to add is on my phone, and I'm on my tablet. Maybe some day when I have more time.

Scott, its great to hear from you again. It is awesome that you stay active with that crazy work schedule.

Kim, this clean eating thing SUX!!! Monday wasn't bad, cuz I had a ton of calories left over from the pizza and ice cream I ate during the Super Bowl. Tuesday, I had to turn down doughnuts at work and pizza at a union meeting. Today I had a coworker ask me to meet them for lunch at McDonald's, I ate a protein bar and some dates on the way there and then drank a black coffee while he smashed some fast food. I am not getting enough calories and I'm currently at my lowest weight since early 2016, which kinda sucks since I'm not trying to lose. I would much rather paid off a dive bomber bet. Congrats to your Eagles. Who woulda ever thought a backup QB who looks like Napoleon Dynamite would take down the GOAT.

Adam, ebb, how you guys doing?

Any word from Brian or Keith on this site?

Alright, I gotta get to bed. L8r

Been behind on posting. Recovery week went fine. Back & Bis was good today. Was a good time for a recovery week with all the snow we had here. I think we had 16" if you add it all up last week. Kids were out of school Friday and got some good sledding time in.

Weekend was busy too. Went to visit my dad in the hospital down in Indiana. Had some recent falls that put him in there. But, one thing that's promising. They might having finally figured out his balance/walking and memory issues. They're pretty sure it's NPH now, and he needs to stint to relive the pressure in his brain. (This is better than other diagnoses, which have no cure.) Hopefully, surgery will happen soon and that will make a big difference.

Kim: Hope you're feeling fine. Thankfully, we've avoided the flu so far. Did you get to the party in Philly last week?

Vandal: Congrats on knocking out the workouts there! Taking rest days...very proud of you. That sounds great that your weight is low and you want to gain. I got really low last summer, but back up about 7 lbs since.... I'd 'like to think' a lot of it is gaining muscle back. (Was doing this vegan + fish diet for a few months....don't recommend it if you want to keep weight on.) Too funny about the Pats getting beat by Napoleon Dynamite. Amazing how his coach and the right play calling made such a difference.

    Have a good one!

    Hey Guys!
I'm going strong in my last week of P90X3. Today was Decelerator which I find to be an interesting workout. Some of it I can handle no problem, but then you get to elevator pull ups and I die. I am down about 2 pounds and was able to keep it that way over the weekend so that's a win in my book. Now if I can build on that and lose another 2#s this week and keep it off over the weekend I will feel like i'm getting somewhere. I need to remember that it won't happen over night and i just have to keep making the right small decisions and i'll get there.

The wife and I are going to Jamaica in July with another couple for our 5 year anniversary. We are super excited and that is my current motivation to lose the weight. I don't want people confusing me for a beached whale while i'm down there. I am starting Hammer & Chisel next week, then once that's over I am going to do the Shift Shop, then Core De Force and that will take me right into our trip. My wife is one of those lucky people with an amazing metabolism so her weight is always in check but she is going to start a program as well to try and tone before our trip. Of course she does tend to make better food decisions than i do on occasion but i'm working on it. Her weakness (and one of my many weaknesses) is ice cream so we have decided to work that in as our reward. If we hit our monthly goals, we get ice cream. If not, no ice cream. Now i just have to make sure i hit my goals because i might die if she is eating ice cream and i have to sit and watch her.

Vandal: Hang in there with the nicotine. I know how hard it can be to quit, but you can do it! I can't imagine leg day then walking 17 miles in 6" of snow. That had to be brutal! Keep it up man.

Kim: what an exciting game! I was so happy to see the Eagles take down the Pats (sorry Adam). I also like that they have been underdogs throughout the whole playoffs. You guys have a lot of x ravens so i have been following them a bit this year. I be the parade was absolute chaos.

John: Glad to hear you got good news about your dad. It sounds like he is getting something similar to what my Mom has had done. She had to get stints put in jugular veins in her neck to relieve pressure in her brain. She was having migraine issues for years and they couldn't figure it out, but she is doing much better now. Hope it all works out for him. And as always i am amazed by how you stay so consistent with working out when you have so much going on at all times.

Scott: It's great to hear from you! Shift work can be so hard when you are trying to stick to a schedule. Keep up the good work.

Keep it up guys! Talk to you soon.

Sorry to be a stranger! Last two weeks have been kind of crazy. Two Thursday's ago was my dad's surgery. Good news on my dad. It was a long day, but it went smoothly. So far so good with his recovery too. He seems to be making progress. Was in Indy the previous weekend seeing the mother-in-law. Last Tuesday, my mom found some water in her basement, so went down there early to help. Then, was in Ohio Tues evening-Friday for work. Very busy work week with too many late nights working. But, work was technically awesome at least. Drove home Friday night and just been catching up on home family stuff ever since. Dad got home from the hospital Saturday. Definitely doing better. Surgery seemed to help, but it may take a few more weeks or so to see exactly home much. At least he's not getting worse anymore like the last 6 years.

Started Phase III of P90X today. C&B kicked my butt as usual.

Keith: Jamaica sounds awesome! Sounds like a great plan. We LOVE ice-cream too. It's a family problem for us. We have a few house rules around it..... you can't have ice-cream two night in a row. Also, we have these 'small' ice cream bowls, so we can't use big ones. I also did stop getting milk shakes going back to 2010. That used to be a problem too. Too easy to suck down 600 calories. Thanks for sharing about your mom. Made me feel better during the surgery. That's great to hear the stints helped her with her migraines.

Must admit, I only got 2 of 6 workouts in last week. But, it was a recovery week, so didn't feel too guilty about missing Yoga and Kenpo....

    Have a good one gang!

Into 2nd week of P90X Lean. Snapped my bands on the pull up workout. Any other suggestions for alternative pull ups when I cant use a pull up bar because of space etc?
  • john4275
    john4275 Posts: 635 Member
Hi Coxwain007, good question on pull-up alternatives. Nothing worse than snapping a band! Been there.

    (1) I know some people that use a lat-pull down machine, but if you're using bands, guessing you might not have one available.
    (2) When I'm on the road, I've sometimes worked in wall handstand pushups. Kind of like a pike press but have your feet higher on the wall. Yes, kind of crazy but you don't have to do so many of them.
    (3) You can always try to mix in alternative back exercises during the pull-up reps. There's 8 'back' moves in Back&Biceps that you could mix up when they call for pull-ups. Also, the 'superman' move is great for toning the back, especially if you kick it up a notch by adding some weights. Also, extra bicep work with the bands is a decent alternative for curl-ups.

Great job on getting into week 2. P90X is no joke! Hope you have fun with it!

    John4275, thanks for that.
The table row looks like I might be able to do that on my workout bench with the bar or some variation of that? I'll have to give it a try.

I took the bands and attached each one to a track above the sliding barn doors I have in the basement, so they work, but I'm afraid they might break again. And its no fun getting one of those snapping into your chest.

I must say, I like the variation of the P90X exercises. I can't necessarily do them as well or heavy as I would like, but I don't find the program intimidating as I originally thought it would be.

I recommend if anyone is considering doing P90X to do it, reduce weight, reduce reps, do the LEAN version and you should be able to handle it without much trouble.

I'm a 49 y/o male turning 50 this year trying to get my 25-year-old body back. Wish me luck! lol

Coxwain007, great job taking this challenge on!!! I'm snapped one band in my life and would prefer to avoid that experience again too. I'm 46 turning 47 in the summer, not too far behind you. Sometimes, I think I'm a little crazy doing these videos; however, I know they are SO good for me. Especially getting the strength work in. One other positive ....I've had some minor knee issues, mostly clicking for years, before 2010. But, for some reason, P90X seems to help my knees. My left knee is actually clicking way less than it did on back on Jan 1. Weird but I'll take it. With the right consistency with these workouts, it's amazing how much your body can change. I think the key is to build the habit and not get burned out. Also, don't sweat if you miss a day. After all these years, I do use shorter Yoga DVDs instead of Yoga X. Also, I got this acid reflux problem that's under control right now, so I rarely do ARX, don't want to aggravate it. The best thing you can do is press play with something, 5 - 6 days a week. Nothing beats P90X from my opinion, but if you ever get short on time, P90X3 is a great maintenance program too.

Good luck and keep up the excellent work!!!

Workouts going fine. I did have to take a rest day yesterday, but came back strong with Back& Bis today. Seeing the light at the end of the tunnel with this round of P90X.

Kim: Haven't tried it yet. Let me BB subscription lapse recently. Sticking with the DVDs for a while. Hope you have fun with it!

Hey guys, its been too long. sorry. Our house went under construction back in February. We added a half bath to the main level and remolded both of the existing bathrooms. We were down to sharing a shower with 5 people and I used this an excuse to not get up and do my workouts. By the time I'd get home from work, I was too tired and I haven't worked out in a over a month.

John, glad everything went well with your dad's surgery. Keep up the good work with the workouts too, you are the man. You ever hear of a band called Big Thief? I was watching an interview with The National and the mentioned the band. They are kinda folksy, with some Velvet Underground-ish guitar and a hauntingly beautiful voice. The song Mary haunts my dreams from time to time.

Kim, great job juggling school and working out. You are amazing. Hit me up if you ever need to chat.

I feel like I've abandoned y'all, I'll try not to be such a stranger.
