Challenge: You Can Quote Me
Losing weight and becoming a healthier, fitter person doesn’t happen overnight. It’s a long-term process. And since it’s a long-term process, it can help to have a regular dose of inspiration. Do you have a favorite quotation that has inspired and motivated you? Maybe something tacked up on your refrigerator or posted next to your computer? Many of us do. This week, let’s share our favorite quotes. The ones that have kept us on track and moving forward when discouragement seemed to rule the day.
This challenge was suggested by @lorrpb and I think it’s a great idea. Lori also proposed an interesting twist: let’s also share how we’ve implemented these quotes in our lives. How have you been inspired to act as a result of your quote? Ideas without action don’t take us very far.
Thank you Lori for the great suggestion. And if you have ideas for future challenges, please chime in. You can post your suggestions here on our Challenge Suggestion Box
I’m looking forward to hearing what has motivated and inspired you!
This weeks challenge: Please post your favorite inspirational quotes and how you’ve implemented them in your life. Any health, wellness or life enhancing quotation is most welcome!
Let’s make it an inspiring week!

Here’s one of my favorite quotes:
I remind myself of this quite often. Treating myself with food is something I’ve stopped doing. Food is fuel, food is yummy, and food is part of our cultural celebrations. But I’ve stopped thinking “I deserve this food, because of _______.”
4 -
“Food won’t fix it. In fact, you’ll then have two things to deal with.” (the original upset & the fact you didn’t meet your food goals)
I use this whenever I’m tempted to eat because I’m upset or stressed (and I realizeI’m not actually in need of fuel.) I remember the quote, sometimes even saying it out loud to myself, “Food won’t fix this.”
Then I figure out what will actually fix it: some exercise, nature, talk to a friend, self-care: bath, book, movie, or take action: contact the person, make a list of what needs to be done, or LET it GO (life is short- is this worth using some of mine I this issue that I won’t even remember in a month or year.6 -

Exactly! And your quote reminded me of another quote I repeat often along these lines:
“If hunger isn’t the problem, then eating isn’t the solution.”
And LET it GO is a great reminder!
Thank you, @MadisonMolly2017!4 -
I love your quote, too!1

I have many favorites but this was the first one that came to mind.
“Whether you think you can or whether you think you can't, you're right.”
-Henry Ford

When I first began my health and fitness reboot, I was being good and consistent, but one morning I skipped my exercise and went to work feeling defeated and like this diet and exercise kick would be a failure like all the others. The first young man through the door at work was wearing this T-shirt. I took it as a sign, and when I got home that evening, I exercised. And the rest is history. The saying still inspires me when I get tired of "being good."

I had zero support after my heart attack. I do not believe there was one person who thought I could come back healthy and strong. I did not believe in myself but I felt that I had no choice. I wanted to die but since God decided it was not my time I needed to fight back. I realized this was my journey alone. With that said (this is the cleaned up version of the quote that got me moving).

@PinkyPan1, I love that quote. I'm often inspired by shear cussedness when people don't believe that I will do something. I first noticed this trait in myself back in high school. I decided to read through the Bible in a year, and my mother bragged about my plan to a friend. The friend said, "Wait until she gets to Deuteronomy - she'll quit." My mom was annoyed and repeated the conversation to me. You'd better believe, I did NOT quit when I got to Deuteronomy. In fact, I've been reading my Bible regularly since that time. MY DH also inspired me with his negative attitude when he suggested that I keep my "fat" clothes rather than donating them. It was I great day when he asked me why we were keeping those bags of clothes that didn't even fit me.5

Here is another quote I really like. Even though I'm not a runner, I think about it when I'm doing some exercise that isn't very impressive. "Hey, I'm exercising here... which is better than doing nothing." A couple weeks ago when my sister and I were working out at Curves a couple older gentlemen (I use the word loosely) who were walking by the windows, stopped and stared and were clearly laughing at the old women doing such easy exercise, to the point of imitating some of the exercise moves. Those 2 guys who went by twice, once on their way to the donut shop and once on the way back, could have used a little of the easy exercise we ladies were doing.

“No guilt, but no excuses.”
I have a muscle disease that limits my ability to exercise and at times impacts my ability to chew and swallow safely. Medications used to treat it tend to cause weight gain. I’ve learned that it cannot be used as an excuse. It’s my reality; I do the best I can to control what I can, and adapt my meal plan and activity as needed to keep myself healthy and safe. I’ve learned to drop the guilt about not being able to always achieve all of my goals. I’m learning to adjust without resentment. I’m learning to continue towards my goal at the pace my body can handle- even if that means stopping and maintaining for awhile, it’s not an excuse to backslide into old habits and patterns.7 -
Love this challenge. I will be looking at it carefully. I know I love to get motivation here since I do not have a support system close to me. I will be posting my favorites once a day this week.
" What you pay attention to, grows"
I love this one since I have anxiety. I work hard every day to pay attention to what is important. Some day are easy, others not so much. Keeping my attention on my health both mental and physical.5 -
Work it cuz you're worth it. Adult yourself. Healthy bodies and minds are a gift. Care for them with good nutrition and physical activity.

I have two amazing grandsons that have taught me the joy of playing. I am the biggest kid when I am with them. I hope to never get too old to play. This goes along with another saying I love..."a body in motion tends to stay in motion."

Life is tough, my darling, but so are you.
This is my word this year, tough. Bring it on!4 -
@themedalist I'm glad my idea was helpful and I hope many here are inspired by this week's challenge.
I live and die by inspirational quotes and many different ones helped me through my weight loss and fitness journey and continue to guide me today. One of my favorites is "Small daily improvement are the key to staggering long term results." --Robin Sharma
Many of us feel in too big a hurry to get "fast results". We want it now or never. Maybe we're taught to be impatient. Maybe we're not willing to put in the HARD WORK and discipline. We need to set different goals, small goals, and realize that change comes steadily not suddenly.
I couldn't lost 150 pounds at once, I couldn't even lose one pound instantly. But I could make positive choices at each meal and each snack, to keep me on track. I couldn't change my whole life overnight, but I could make better choices, one at a time, all of which added up.
When I started, I couldn't walk for more than 10 minutes without pain and couldn't wall squat to parallel. I couldn't become wonder woman in a day or a week. But I could take more steps this week than last and now I can hike all day. I could do an extra squat rep or go a little bit lower until eventually my trainer called me out as a good example of how to squat!
Keep track of your progress and celebrate each SMALL accomplishment!7 -
This one is an important one for me. Giving up, dwelling on my problems, always complaining about my issues neved did help, yet I kept doing it. No more!!5 -
These are wonderfully inspiring quotes! I can see why they resonate with you. For me, this one gets at the heart of the weight loss process. We have to be willing to sacrifice some things now for a better future. I remind myself of this frequently:

Ella Fitzgerald;
‘Just don’t give up trying to do what you really want to do. Where there is love and inspiration, I don’t think you can go wrong.’
It can seem very dark out there sometimes ...But we have more love and inspiration and beauty around us than we think if we just take time to look ...and ask. 🌹❤🧘♂️3 -
@prgirl39mfp and @themedalist , I like those "Don't quit" quotes. Here's my favorite that I have been quoting to my students for years:
It is attributed to Vince Lombardi, but also to different folks.3 -
I have lost count as to how many times life has knocked me down. I am proud that I have gotten back up each time. A few times it took longer to climb back up on my feet but I did it. I am proud of that. This saying has kept me going.

We certainly have a “don’t quit” theme going and I think perseverance is the essence of personal change. I love this quote by Michael Jordan:

The squat challenge proved this saying. LOL

Great one @PinkyPan1 and @themedalist . I am a big fan of Michael Jordan
" Something will grow from all you are going through. And it will be you."4 -
These are all great! Thank you!0

I struggle with being myself constantly. Not because of me, but because people find me different and difficult to deal with. I am a highly functioning introvert, I have anxiety and short fuse. Still I am a kind, loving person but the world first points out the bad instead of the good. I love myself. Always be yourself.4 -
