Never got out for a hike yesterday (dozed large part of day...) but did finally get out for a paddle in the evening on "Long Pond" here in town. Fought the wind large part of the way going out, then wind died on the way back, so got good arm workout. Raining here steady this morning and looking like more. Have lost a couple pounds last two weeks.

    Sam, Congrats on your retirement.

    Good Morning!

Mike, I bought one of those sails for the front of my kayak. Should be in any day. I'll provide report, and possible pics once I get it.

Temps are supposed to hit 101 today. It is not even July yet! We are still on track to have one of the hottest summers on record. That is just weird, following what was one of the top 10 coldest winters on record. We are seeing more and more of the "wild swings". I think that is how global warming is going to hit Kansas.

Yesterday, there was some talk of sleeping in. Even when I sleep in, as it were, I don't sleep past 6:00 or 6:30, even on vacation! During the work week, I'm up before 5:00.

    Have a great day!

    Good morning gentlemen.

Our power went out at 1 a.m. I know the time, because our security system started chirping a warning, that it was running on battery power. I too care of that and got back in bed, when two of our fire alarms went off. Could find no fire, or hint of smoke. After a few minutes, they shut off. Try getting back to sleep after that. The power came back on at 5 a.m. I have no idea what caused the outage. I did see an Ask This Old House episode that said fire alarms wear out over time. Ours are now 17 years old. Maybe it's time to replace them.

Have to head up to the Army hospital early, today, for fasting lab work. Just routine stuff. I also need to go to the pharmacy, while I am there. That will be a pain in the neck. The Dept. of Defense is transitioning to a new health record system and it doesn't work very well. Wait times at the pharmacy here have gone from 20 minutes to two or three hours. Oh boy, what fun. I'll take a book.

    Mornin' gents.

Thunderstorms here today, so I will occupy myself with indoor chores.

Been battling a wicked sore throat and general body aches for last 4 days. Finally feeling a bit better yesterday afternoon. Today it doesn't hurt to swallow. Grateful that I can self medicate and have a decent idea how to do it. I did not want to take time to go to urgent care...just take care of my business and rest.

Dave, sometimes good results take time.

Bill, your difficulties with insurance is mind boggling. You have the patience of Job. I fear I would be having a stroke if I were in your shoes.

Steve, my sister in Austin TX says its been over 100 every day the last week there. Yeesh.

Mike, any time in the 'yak is good for the soul. Steve's sail sounds intriguing.

    Wonder what Sam is doing?

    Be OP ;-)

Good Morning! Dave, glad to here the report on your hand, though it sounds like "yeah it hurts, it is supposed to. Don't worry about it". The VA pharmacy thing sounds a bit nightmarish.

Kayaking with a sail, sounds wrong.

I took it easy yesterday to make sure the knee and back didn't act up. Today is busy with shopping and some baking. We possibly may finally put the Xmas decorations back in the garage loft with my sons help.

    Good Afternoon,
Don't know where my post yesterday went,
I have no problem sleeping till 7
Steve, they did not advertise my position till last week and when I left had not switched accounting apps to another login; glad month-end and quarter-end not my issue.
Took grandkids to pool yesterday and this morning,
Yoga class yesterday, several new, another sent to me by their doctor after they did not exercise after joint replacement and physical therapy; problem is most will not continue coming rather be couch potatoes.
Bill, you are scaring me we switch to Athena August 1 supplement to Medicare.
Dave I have heard so many horror stories about VA through the years, here they are lessening, but still hear issues; hope they are improving there.
Strong storms here this afternoon, but is cooler.
    Enjoy the Day,

Just so the blame falls where it should: I did not go to the VA pharmacy, but to Madigan Army Medical Center, the big hospital on Joint Base Lewis-McChord. It actually went faster than expected. I picked up a number when I arrived, then went to the lab, where I found the doctor hadn't entered the order. By the time that was worked out and I walked back up to the pharmacy, they were only nine short of my number, so I only waited about 15 minutes.
