There are many times, it is better to quote one of our team mates than any other resource. The following quote is by team mate, @MadisonMolly2017 it was posted September 7. Rick
Habits, wisely developed, practiced, and refined, make it all so easy. Truly transformative! Habits remove the fear of regaining for me - Invaluable!!
An example:
Weighed a few walnuts to eat before bed after checking my calorie deficit. Paid a lot of attention to each bit of the 1st three but began to munch the 4th fast. Stopped, put it down, said good job to myself “why eat it if you’re not paying attention”. Sat down and focused on the remainder of that one & the final one.
This happened because:
1) I happily track everything I eat & have since at least Sept 25, 2017. Everything, to the gram.
2) I read up on nuts, realized they were good for me (unsalted, raw or dry roasted) and said, “OK, you can eat them if you track them & don’t go nuts with them. That’s the deal” so, weighing 15g of them was the result of over 2.5 years of managing my nut consumption.
3) I was really hungry. I tried water first, and some hot tea, so I used some of my deficit, but at end of the day I was still under by 350, so I’ve learned if I’m truly hungry before bed a few nuts & water will help me sleep. I can trust my hunger.
4) I’ve practiced eating mindfully for 2-2/3 years now. Paying attention to each bite. Savoring. Lingering. Pausing. I get annoyed if I have to eat in a rush. So I realized when I wasn’t being mindful & changed my behavior.
5) My self talk is positive & has a few phrases I use often. “why eat it if you’re not paying attention?” “Food won’t fix it— Really - you’ll just have two problems” “it’s not a race” “The Past is past” (let it go)
Hugs!

Over 24 hours in travel. Most of the time with no internet connection, so no tracking (as yet).
Over 10,000 steps between gates (so it could classify). Also did regular 5 min lunges and stretches while on the plan.
Will put in todays tracking tomorrow (as I remember everything I ate and portion sizes).

Today was chilly and raw! A 40 F difference in temp from Thursday. Made a pot of chicken soup that made the whole house smell yummy. Used the last of the carrots and onions from this seasons farm share.
Finding it much easier to stay on track now that school is back on track. No opportunity to snack on anything other than the planned snacks in my lunch bag.2 -

@RangerRickL Thank you...I’m very touched; I hope it is helpful to other UACers! I know we each find our way but for my dad & me, nuts seem to be a magic, secret weapon!!victorious55 wrote: »September 9

@victorious55 I honestly wasn’t sure I’d be able to do it. I love nuts, but I began with little 1/2 oz containers. And kept reminding myself, weigh them & manage them, or they’re off the list! I love how you worded that “Time to nurture myself on nuts.”
Interestingly, I stock about 5 different kinds in the refrigerator in old glass jars...At first I was wild about cashews, then pecans, etc. I was surprised, over time, to begin really tasting them...and to have preferences that changed over time2 -

First pass day. I went to a concert with friends, drank wine, and lost count of snacks. I feel ok about this pass day, because we're 10 days into the challenge, so I have a good chance to make it. I'm going to take a cue from MadisonMolly and pick up some nuts Monday.3
