@molly3210 your strategy sounds good - that is what I do and sometimes I bank a few exercise calories as well. So long as you are still exercising control you should do fine.

@trimi1104 You are always an inspiration to me!
@molly3210 it is NOT a slippery slope to wisely choose to spend a Pass Day for a holiday. Family relationships are important too. Cheat days are different in that they destroy discipline. Normal Big holidays are relatively infrequent: your birthday; wedding anniversary; Thanksgiving; Christmas...

    My first day back:
Calories: way under as I strive to regain my normal balance
Tracking: easy as I ate very little
    Exercise: downtown Chicago city walking

Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? ✅

@molly3210 Your plan sounds solid to me.

I look at Thanksgiving as an opportunity to practice something that will recur multiple times through the year ... and over the years to come, since this new health routine really doesn't have an "end point".

I need to learn to incorporate celebrations without having them become a launch pad to unhealthy choices after the special occasion is over.

I’m tempted to delete what I just posted. As I said, it’s not going to appeal to everyone. But I really don’t like feeling “full” anymore & I don’t like having to get “back in the groove” afterwards.

    It’s all about trade-offs I suppose.

    Tracked? Yes, all.

Getting very close to my goal weight!
    Feeling leaner, stronger - delighted.
2 years, 10 months, 19 days ... I think I will hit my 3-year GW! (Purposely took it slowly to develop new habits.)

Sooooo good with the advice, thank you!

"Don't derail progress by 'cheating' " and "don't allow celebrating to become a launch pad to unhealthy decisions" hit home big time. At the same time, use the pass days when it's worth it, just not as an excuse to go nuts.

Additional exercise is a great idea, I can certainly incorporate that!

I liked @MadisonMolly2017 suggestion of eating something beforehand, will definitely help! Its true that once you're at an event it's much harder to track and easier to overdo it without realizing. Even if I eat at maintenance, it can only take me so far because I'm short, lol. So it's not a pass to go crazy unless I'm willing to derail hard work.

The takeaway is that I'll need to be intentional with the choices at these gatherings. Absolutely cannot be mindless in the food part. I'll feel more confident even having a plan for the holidays. I've never done that before. Aiming for December NSV to be on track with weight loss due to my "holiday attack plan"!

    Thanks everyone!!

Over the past few years, I’ve slowly realized all the things I assigned to overeating & restaurant food - it’s been similar to peeling back layers of an onion...
    Self-care
    Relaxation
    Reward
    Comfort
    Companionship
    Love
    Feeling Important (ego)
    Feeling cared for
    Way to get happy

A huge part of my Journey has been developing all kinds of non-unhealthy-food practices to meet my non-nutritional needs!!

    It’s fun in the end!!!
