I just got a fitbit over christmas and have noticed today from a bumpy bus ride, it jumped up 35 extra points. Im wondering how many false steps im being accounted for in a day. I also have it synced to mfp, and normally track exercise there, does fitbit do that for me or only pick it up and record it if its so long of a worknot, not just mod paced walking here and there from buses and around work??

The steps associated with bogus ones are usually super minor distance - and that's where the calorie estimate would come from - distance and time and mass.

So a slight overage there probably doesn't make up for the fact that ALL non-step time is given BMR sleeping level calorie burn - which is obviously underestimated anytime you are awake - especially standing not moving.

Fitbit has nicer exercise diary, and will have extra stats for it.

Need to read the first section of FAQ in this group, twice is good.

normal walking should not be picked up as a workout, but it may take upwards of 2 weeks for it to see HR related stats to know that and not count it.
That's actually where a potentially more inflated calorie burn will come about - using HR-based calorie burn for normal daily walking when distance would be more accurate.
