How was the hike on Monadnock?

Planting peas in January. That was too early even in Oklahoma.

DMIL made a list of people she wanted to say goodbye to (with help) and calls were made. DW is home for a day or so unless there is a sudden change.

How did GP appointment go, Bill? Isn't there another cardiologist other than the one you fired to go see?

DS#1 called from Ft Jackson last night. He is amazed (he is a former Marine) at how the Army does Basic Combat Training in 2019. Males and females do PT and train together from the get go. He was even approached by a female boot and asked if he had a DW or a GF (hormones abound). I guess that if males and females have to serve together, then they should train together. There was also a story about male on male sexual assualt but not in his training group.

    Prayers for Rita's health.

Salad and scrambled eggs last night. Actually very satisfying.

    Be OP ;-)

    Good Morning!

Sam, still praying for you and your recovery.

    Dave, keeping Rita in prayer.

Lee, sounds as if your son is doing well. Does he have to go through basic if he once served as a marine? Does he get any credit there for time served in another branch, or do they do the full course meal again?

Weather wise, yesterday marked the longest time period in KC recorded history without a 65 degree day. The last 65 degree day was Oct 30. Long range forecast does not have one in the next 10 days, but at least we are in the 50s again! We have also had snow in each of the last six months. Today, we are going to experience a record low pressure day. They are warning people, like me, with arthritis and migranes. Flooding is our next big concern. My yard feels like a sponge when I walk in it with the dog.

Yippee!!!! I FINALLY have all of the reporting done for year-end, January, and February. Now on to "real" work.

Any of you ever try to type with a cat on your lap that pulls at your hands as you type?

    Have a great day!

Steve, yes he has to do BCT even though he is a former Marine. He has to learn the Army way before he goes on to Ft Rucker for Warrant Officer School. But he retained his E-5 or Sergeant rank in BCT. All the boots have to come to parade rest to address him. He does not bunk with the privates but he has to eat with them, do PT with them, and go to training with them.

    Morning.

Sam, hoping you get back in the saddle again soon. Hang in there--we need your morning humor.

Monadnock was really great. I hiked in crampons higher up where it was too steep and icy to get a footing, and walked in snowshoes coming down, where snow was almost a foot deep. I think I injured something, though... After I got home my right foot started to hurt in the sole, near my heel, whenever I put weight on it, and now I'm hobbling all around my condo. Calling doctor when the office opens.

    Sigh, tough getting old.

Gee, I hope our soldiers can pay attention to their job with all those distractions going on...

    Have a good one.

    Good morning gentlemen.

Tough for this old soldier to keep up with all the changes in Basic Combat Training. Not much remains from how is was 43 years ago (ye gads I am geting old). The mixed gender thing works becaus of the relatively high degree of privacy available to individuals. Not like to old open-bay living arrangements. Heck, they didn't even have stalls for the toilets, back in the day, just a row of johns, a couple feet apart.

Rita's appointment was a bit disappointing. The ultrasound tests were kind of inconclusive. So she had to schedule an MRI. Those are in greater demand, so the first available appointment is in late April. It just drags on. On a positive note, her more recent blood work showed her liver function to be out of the norm, but not as much so as it was previously. The doctor said thayt indicates the cause might be something transitory. The cough she has is just another cold, the doc says. Her earlier bronchitis probably lowered her resistance, so she easily cauight another bug, right after the first one.

I took Rita out to lunch then on a long drive out in the country, after the hospital. We both love driving around looking at the scenery and talking.

The climb up the icy mountain sounds like great fun, to me. MIke. Hope the foot recovers quickly, though. I hope to get out for a walk/hike today, too. Probably in the nearby wildlife refuge.

Yep, when I was in Harmony Church WWII barracks at Ft Benning in '80s, open showers and no dividers among toilets. No cattle trucks to move troops to training areas, marched everywhere and we had excellent PT scores.

Sorry to hear ultrasound was inconclusive. Prayers continue.

    Good Morning

Dave, sorry to hear no diagnosis came out of Rita's appointment. But it sounds like you two turned it into a nice day in the country. Continuing to pray.

You two make Basic Training sound like so much fun

Physical went well. I have some sort of sonigram today to make sure I don't have an aortic aneurysm. An optional part of the Welcome to Medicare package. If you have smoked more than 4 packs of cigs in your lifetime it is offered. Dr did a good job of selling it. Stress test isn't till April. I loved my cardiologist, after all, he saved my life. I just got tired of the large corporate practice he is part of and their protocols. I will see how it goes.

Praying for Sam to be fully recovered and all this to go away.

Yeah I planted a bit too early (January) but old timers usually planted peas in at least late February when the climate was much colder here.
•So sorry for the delays with Rita Dave. I too probably need to talk to a pulmonologist as my ENT appt (after waiting a month) wasn't that informative. At the end he wondered why I wanted a real diagnosis and not just a pat on the head and 5 days of generic antibiotics. Not too serious with me but something different is going on.
    •Nice Hike Mike!!
Weather is warming up and trellised up the peas. I think in general they want to see some days in the low 50s. Our average high February temps at least by mid Feb are in the 50s. This year was all 40s and 30s for highs in Feb except maybe one day or two. Of course you need to be able to at least dig a trench to plant them. Most folks plant peas and other cold weather crops too late in the year but it varies with your climate.
As an aside my peas survived temps down to 5°F one year by just piling on the snow and mulching for the unexpected cold snap. Ordinary temps down to lo 20s don't bug them once sprouted but not blooming.
    • I am not exactly seeing 70 deg in my future yet but definitely some mid to upper 60s. Nice change after a cold February and early March.
•MY heart goes out to those in Colorado and elsewhere who were struck by the cyclone bomb (winds of up to 100 MPH and a foot of snow) YIKES!
