I specifically looked for a graphic which would express this concept, "When you always look forward toward a distant goal, you can become discouraged because the goal seems so far away. On the other hand, if you look backwards to see where you started, then, you can see how far you have come." That concept has been very important to me. I can get frustrated with myself when my goals are not fulfilled. But, when I look back, it gives me the perspective to appreciate that I have made progress. I've not arrived, but I'm not where I started.
I hope this idea may help you too!

Happy First day of Spring!
Technically, It's New Year's Day according to:- the old Roman Julian Calendar,
- the astronomical calendar (Vernal [read Spring] Equinox), and
- astrologically speaking as it is the first day ruled by Ares (the Ram), which always starts off the annual cycle ... which explains why it is always at the top of the list in any Astrology Column.
New Year's Day is a great day to look back and celebrate how far you have come - even if you have only just begun. Then look ahead, but only as far as the next bend in your road. That will be your current short-term mini-goal mile-stone. Just focus on doing what needs doing to get that far. From there you will be able to see the next bend, and you will shift your goal-posts juuuust that much farther.
Repeat through the year, and you will eventually find yourself at your Ultimate Big-Finish Line ....
And here's a well-known "secret" ..... every day / ANY day can be New Year's Day. Just declare it so to yourself and act accordingly.
Now only tell 2 friends this, and tell them that they can only pass it it two of their friends (each) .... and so on .... and so on ....8 -

@RangerRickL, that is a good point! I think about that sometimes when I see the cumulative amount of weight lost on MFP. I restarted this January, but I hadn't gotten all the way back up to my highest weight. So although I was disappointed in myself for getting to where I was, there were still almost 30 pounds "already gone", as it were, and the pounds I've lost this year have just added to that total. Looking at everything that I've learned and the friends I've made along the way definitely makes a difference.
@StrongScarlet, awww! Baby Buffy is so adorable!!
Happy Spring, everyone!4 -

I regularly look back and marvel at how far I have come.
NSV: DH told me today that he had been looking at some photos of a holiday we had before I lost all the weight, and he suddenly realised how far I had come, and how hard I was working to stay fit and healthy. It meant the world to me.5 -

Your message is so important, @RangerRickL
I did this over the past week. My wt had been slipping upwards.
SO, I took a hard look.
Up 2lbs in a month
Up 0.6 lbs in 2.5 months
Down 73-4 lbs in 38.5 months.
It’s all about keeping it in perspective.
Curious, I just looked up my weights at this time each year...

Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? Yes and under
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? Yep!
That's so true, @RangerRickL! Even if I'm not exactly where I want to be weight-wise right now, I'm still 50+ lbs down from where I used to be and I can do things -- like run a half-marathon! -- that I never would have been able to do just four years ago.4 -

Sometimes I get discouraged becajse I don’t lose as quick as others having PCOS. I’ve lost 28lbs, inches, sizes and I have a healthy daily food and water intake. I’m back on 5cups a day fruit/veggies and got 5.5c today! Most important, I’m happy and proud of me😊💪🏻3 -
