            Good Morning!
I tried to log in a couple of times yesterday, but I could not get the site to work for me to post.
Dave, awesome picture! I'm glad that you two could get out for a hike.
Mike, continue to take care of that foot.
I get to have a dental filling at 7:00 this morning. What was I thinking?
Dave, I have reached out to a local turning club. I have not heard back yet.
Have a great day!0 -
            G' Morning.
Spring equinox passed, but there's still piles of snow and sheets of ice between patches of our brown lawn, and the woods are still filled up with snow. 35° this morning.
Found out my friend Dave lost his 20 lbs in 2-1/2 months. "Not eating icecream or donuts and walking 2, 3, 5 miles a day."
Did more stretches of calf and foot yesterday and wore new sneakers with gel soles all day. Drove to where my canoe was stashed for the winter and put on car roof, then did a short errand at Walmart. When I was done, foot was really hurting. After stretching/massaging/ icing, foot seemed better, and seems fine this morning. Going to take it easy today. Leery about attempting canoe trip Saturday. Left a message with nurse practitioner asking how much I should limit activity, and if doing stuff like yesterday is bad.
Around here if people leave trees cut up in yard with 'free firewood' sign, woodstove owners will come and get most of it, if hardwood.
Bought some flower seeds to start indoors. Maybe will speed up spring.
Have a good day.0 -
            Good morning gentlemen.
Went on another two hikes yesterday. One was a successful completion of a route I tried long ago, but kept losing the trail in a boulder field. This time, with GPS assistance, I made my way through. After that one I tied in to another route. Now at five hikes in my quest to get 70 in my 70th year. The mileage wasn't a lot, at 7 miles, but 80 percent of it was in deep snow and ice, so it was a lot more tiring than expected. Still a beautiful day in OIympic National Park.
Our historically dry and warm weather, after the cold of February has led to historically high pollen counts. Many of us in Western Washington are suffering from allergies. Sniff, sniff, cough, hack.
Hope the turning club responds, Steve. My club members would be all over it.
Air pollution concerns have really cut the number of wood-burning fireplaces and stoves around here. The firewood demand isn't what it used to be, at least in urban areas.
Saw a herd of 30 elk just across the river from me on yesterday's hike. Too many to get in one shot. Pretty cool.

            Mornin' gents.
Love the photo of the elk! Beautiful critters. Good eating too. Couple of nice big bodied cows in that group.
Firewood is in huge demand around here. Lots of folks have detached outdoor wood burning furnaces that heat their homes.

Teehee yes Dave to get all those elk in one shot would be a masterful hunt for sure whether by bow and arrow or rifle. OK maybe a sick thought there. Gorgeous for sure.
Mike: hang in there. Like most things the nurse practitioners and other medical folks can't exactly tell us what will work best in our bodies with heel pain and activity. I have 1" long heel spurs on both heels but mostly don't suffer badly from my plantar fasciitis. I did get a heel cortizone shot one time (ouch), but mostly that allowed me to do my stretches and take care of my heel. I just don't walk barefoot in the house and wear my multidensity orthotic like soles in my shoes. Regardless of what I did it took quite awhile for the pains to subside. The right insoles/orthotics and not going barefoot helped my in my pains.
I would need the right insole to hike which in my case was made from a form fitted multi-density material.0 -
            Good Morning
Dave, beautiful picture of you and Rita yesterday. What an amazing encounter with the Elk too. Wood burning stoves and even fireplaces are in decline here as well though they were all the rage in the early 90's. Many times in the winter there is a Spare the Air alert that prohibits there use unless it is the main source of heat for the home.
Thankfully the back came around eventually yesterday. I tried baking some Irish Soda Bread muffins with currants & caraway. They came out well. I took half across the street to fuel the teenage soccer player and track athlete and her mom. Tutoring, finances and then off to the healing rooms in the evening for prayer. I finished writing my testimony yesterday and need to give it a once over.
I go barefoot often, though DW is training me to wear slippers. Perhaps I will look into healthier ones. I don't have issues and work my arch most days, but like with my sandles, it couldn't hurt.0
