I like to learn and try new ideas. Books and I are old friends. This year, for the first time in my life, I'm having to adjust my exercises due to lumbar issues. I'm learning new exercises to strengthen my back and move with better posture.
What have you added to your exercise program or would you like to add?

Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Yes. 3 hour walk
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? No. 3rdchristmas party today UK election results meant lots of alcohol was consumed! Last Christmas party tomorrow. Yay!
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? Yes
I've never used resistance bands before. We're going on a road trip for 3 weeks so this is a good time to test out work outs with resistance bands. I have bought 3 and will work out for 21 days with resistance bands and body weight and stay away from gyms. This will be interesting!0 -

Exercised?: Yes (5 km in 40 mins - hills)
Calories?: Yes
Tracked?: Yes
Slightly slower today, but still sub 40 mins today for the 5km.
Hope all had a NOT unlucky Friday the 13th.
Took daughter bed shopping again today (different place to previous time). Can only go when she has the fortitude/mindset to face the real world. This time she found a bed she preferred to the one at the other place, so we put it on deposit. Will be delivered early to mid January.
Today's todo list is mostly not done. Feel really bad about this. So many things that have priority. Feeling overwhelmed. Have most tasks broken down into 10 mins or less starter tasks, but still not even time (or self-drive) to start. Too many other distractions.
@RangerRickL. When I feel like a change, I have 2 main things I can do different:- Different bodyweight sets (have about 30 to switch between)
- Walk different trails in the forest (some more challenging than others)
Takes more effort and motivation to do different. The usual gets me "in the groove" faster and I can stay there longer.
The usual is what I currently opt for as I do not have the mentally capability to really push (with the rest of what is going on). The fact I can face 20+ mins of activity at all currently is a MAJOR effort.7 -
Pass day #4 for Thursday, pass #3 was Wednesday
The trend in my pass days are currently due to going over in calories OR not tracking accurately. I don't like this trend. Moving to a new city definitely takes its toll in little ways as well as the obvious ones. We haven't found a new gym with the boot camp style that we like, and tennis doesn't start until January. This week we did meal prep for lunches but dinners have been on the loose side. (Thank goodness for the dog walking!)
All recipes for loosing muscle and adding weight. Gonna scope out new gym next week... Tempted to wait until January for those new member deals but I'm afraid to put it off anymore.
I know that if I'm diligent with CICO I'll continue to lose, but it's becoming clear that for me exercise and healthy eating goes hand in hand. I like to eat to fuel my workouts and normally very active lifestyle. Kind of a dangerous all or nothing mentality. It's an odd quirk that I have to be mindful of.2 -
Lost weight, ate much better than I did yesterday, and worked up a good sweat.0

Urgh, I need to stop having binge days. I know it's an emotional reaction but it is also sabataging the exact thing I want. I admitted to coach to that I'm really having a hard time getting back to training. I'm scared of getting hurt again and although I'm being careful of who I roll with I can do more than I am but I freak out in my head and then get stuck. I asked him to push me a bit, towards safe people to start with. But I also know I need to stop being slack in other areas. I need to eat right, quantity and the actual choices of what I eat and I need to be consistent with my other rehab etc. Coach reminded me that the smallest victories matter the most. He also said
we all want this big bam moment. But it’s always the daily little things that create those
I just need to focus on the next decision and get that right, not stress about whatever other decisions will follow after that one.6 -
Heh, heh, heh...It is way to early for me to be posting the results for a day.
I don't know if it is going to be a pass or not.
Kitchen ain't closed. Bar ain't closed.
But here we got Friday the thirteenth and it is looking like an auspicious day.
I turned over seven hundred thousand feet today. That would be climb or elevation change over 39 months.
I seen guys at the parking lot, dog walkers and trail runners. Told them about my metric. They hooted and laughed and doffed their hats... well, you know, kind of.
But the question rolled out, "are you training for a race?"
"well no..."
"But there is senior Olympics. You know about that don't you?"
"well yeah but..."
Happy day. There ain't no Hallmark card for it. Turning 700,000.
Them rascals at the parking lot declared me to be "monster geezer."
So I got 3 beers of my favorite... and I had 150ml of my favorite 12 year old single malt.
That is tracking so far. Today that new Jumanji movie opens. My wife wants to see it. That could involve some popcorn. That's 1200 cals right there.
This is alright. My knee is ok. Buddy comes over tomorrow. That precludes exercise. Going to Durango for a sleigh ride on Sunday.
I will be back to it on Monday.
Theme of the day is supposed to be changing up our exercise routines. Heh! Sisyphus say he is stuck with pushing that rock up that hill.
What about songs from the exercise playlist that expose how weird we are?
I don't know how this got in my playlist. Seems like something I might have listened to as a kid but I have no memory of that.

Good points. A few months ago, I injured my knee running and finally recovered after limping around for weeks. The doctor gave me an illustrated booklet with exercises to strengthen the muscles around my knee, most of which I'd never tried before.2 -

I’d like to add a group class to my workout routine... there’s many at the gym I go to and two I’m kind of interested in-HIIT and boxing, but I’m scared to try it. I feel like I won’t be able to keep up with the others and be embarrassed. Maybe some day6 -

@Bill70Strong is always a role model for switching things up/trying new things.
Thanks @craigo3154 for the reminder that simplicity counts too and that even a different trail can provide this.
Pass. Been preoccupied with politics here. Had a comfort eating reaction. Well that will do me no favours for a five year term so I'm resolving to snap out of it tomorrow.
I watched my 3 year old's ballet class this morning. A hobby I never took up. She announced just over a year ago that she wanted to go to ballet. She had a taster lesson which she loved and hasn't looked back - she adores it and beans throughout. In the new year I might try some online lessons or barre which I see lots of you doing.5 -

@tiffany80802017 I promise you that group fitness classes are WAY less intimidating than you think! I felt the same way back in 2006 when I first wanted to sign up. I've been at it a while now, and not only is it great to have the support of people who are a little more advanced than me, but there are always newcomers for me to support and cheer on, too. Trust me, even if you're the least in-shape person there, if you keep going, you won't be for long!6

I frequently switch my exercise routine round as I get bored after a while. And I like learning new dances, or relearning old ones. 😂

@Lilutz thanks for the encouragement!! Appreciate it!
My trainer just quit so I’m looking for a new workout plan, so maybe I’ll give it a try this month. I’m scared because of my size (BMI is in 40s), and being completely out of sync with the pace and/or individuals in there. I know no one really cares in there what I look like, I would just feel uncomfortable. Idk. Maybe will try though.
Also, 13 years going to group fitness classes is pretty impressive!! Way to go!2 -
3 x’s yes. Really awesome boot camp this morning. Good on calories and logging. I started my new part time job as a clerk at my local library today. Something to keep me busy over the winter and I can continue once gardening season starts. It’s a childhood dream come true to work in a library.
I switch up my exercise a lot. Recently added in Pilates and Spin class. I only started exercise a little over a year ago so I’m constantly finding new things to try.4 -

I forgot to comment about changing up exercise. When I'm in routine with Jiu Jitsu, there really is no need. It is such a dynamic sport and even if I roll with the same person twice in a row, we will do different things and it will be a totally different experience. And our club is big enough that I can roll with different people so much. Our coach is always growing his game and introducing us to new concepts we can try and even if we are going through moves I know there are always little aspects I become aware of to improve them.
And I also want to encourage people to try group classes. That's how I originally got into fitness. Any good instructor will welcome you and show you the basics and encourage you at your stage whole still giving experienced people in the class something that pushes them. I remember when I started I watched a couple of others in the class and thought how far ahead of me they were. A few months later I was so happy to realise I was able to keep up with them in some of the sets.4 -
Yes, yes, yes. Shoveling and upper body strength. Stomach feeling a bit off today, definitely affected my appetite.3
