@TerriRichardson112 and God’s peace unto you!
Your grateful friend, Rick2 -
When I opened up the UAC community this evening, I was feeling so far away from you all. By the time that I had read through @craigo3154; @Dory_42; @victorious55; @TerriRichardson112, I was feeling so grateful for each of you and the rest of our team mates.
I do feel very sad and uncomfortably preoccupied by my Aunt’s situation. I’ve been down this road before as a attorney and as a family member. Unfortunately, the loved one who you are trying to protect, winds up focusing their anger at the one who is their rescuer.
My parents were people of basic simple virtues: duty was one of the highest.

Back on track after a week's absence. Lost the kilo and a bit I put on during those days travelling and staying in hotels.
Exercise: Yes, minimal. I was very tired but did about 30 minutes walking.
Calories: Yes, stayed under.
Tracking: Yes, logged everything.
I have lots to be grateful for. Looking at my poor partner, I'm so grateful I have a good memory and my brain functions properly.7 -
On the bright side, I’ve still only got one pass day this month9
-
yes x3 though exercise was just a short walk and some bodyweight exercises.
Still confused by my Fitbit calculations.
Yesterday: 8738 steps and 2074 cal burned and +228 calorie adjustment on mfp but 2 hours of extra non-step exercise
Today: 8084 steps and 2020 calories burned as of 11pm and +254 calorie adjustment on mfp but no non-step exercises
Which makes me feel like Fitbit isn't counting my non-step exercises from yesterday (bike + gym class) in its calorie count, either on its own app or on mfp. Anyone have any insight?5 -
1/14 - Reporting back in because Memaw got in the cookie jar, followed by half a peanut butter sandwich...so over on calories and making this pass day #1.7

craigo3154 Thanks for the thoughtful reply. This week I read an interesting article on CNN about the fires in Australia. https://www.cnn.com/2020/01/12/world/aboriginal-australia-fire-trnd/index.html The article said the aborginal people have 50,000 year old land management practices that prevent the type of large scale fires that are happening now. Hopefully, the situation will turn soon. Take care of yourself and your family.

Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? 46 minutes of barre strength this morning, and 3 hours of dancing around during band practice.
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? Yes and under
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? Yep!5 -

craigo3154 Thanks for the thoughtful reply. Could 50,000 year old indigenous practices have prevented the current fire situation? Probably not. The climate is different (warmer and in drought), the landscape is different (more western agriculture - high value farming assets across places that used to be native management areas) even the flora and fauna is changing (large spread of introduced plant species).
The state forest I live next to has predominantly native plant species. However it takes a concerted effort by a conservation group to weed out a lot of the introduced plants. The "Chanders Hill Conservation Society" is at work in the forest at least 60 days a year trying to keep down the spread of introduced plants in just one small section of the forest.
Fuel reduction by burning during cooler months is done, but the conditions must be suitable to prevent possible containment breaks (like Wilsons Promontory 2005). With increased average temperatures, drought, less than average rainfall, etc.. employing aboriginal land management techniques from 50,000 years ago is likely both dangerous and catastrophic.
There are no simple solutions to the "perfect (fire) storm" situation happening here. If any of the lead up events were different, it is also likely the outcome would be vastly different. Climate change is only one of the contributing factors. There are many more.
(btw, Australia's contribution to worldwide greenhouse gas emission in 2014 was 1.06% of the worldwide total - (Source: Boden, T.A., Marland, G., and Andres, R.J. (2017). National CO2 Emissions from Fossil-Fuel Burning ). Even if Australia were, on its own, to eliminate ALL greenhouse gas emissions, it would not make a dent in the climate change problem. What is important is that ALL nations, acknowledge that climate change is occurring, acknowledge that modern mankind is responsible for accelerating it faster than what may have naturally occurred; and commit to do something about it (like at least meet the Kyoto Protocol targets. ) )6 -
So much to be thankful for, the beauty of nature, living in this age of technology, family, this group, health, home, job

@craigo3154 Such a good response. Thank you for replying. You should consider sending a reply to CNN for their article. I agree with your points about climate change problems. Humanity has a tiny window to make massive change. Instead, I see mostly flowery words and the same behavior from both governments and individuals, while we continue to increase our numbers. I do what I can, write and call my government and sign petitions, but talk isn't enough.
Dawn here, heading out to walk.

Pass 4/3I shouldn't be elaborating on pass days.
Ugh. Month only half and I am already fizzled.
But it isn't like I been eating and drinking hog wild.
Today was exercise on day.
I put my bike on the roof to drive the 15 minutes up to the mountainside climbing track.
The whole city was traffic jammed so I went back home.
I could have rode the "paper route" in my neighborhood. Short climb repeats but I kind of habituated myself to standing climbs for most of that climbing.
Hurts my knee. Seems like I should be able to just attenuate my effort somewhat and do it anyway.
Nope. Went back to bed.4 -
