Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes?
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day?
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank?

Yesterday’s daytime temperatures reached 105 F or 40.5 C.
But at 6 a.m., this was our prehike vista. Cave Creek Regional Park north of Phoenix, Arizona15 -
It’s late spring in the desert, most flowers are drying out from the rising temperatures. But, the giant Saguaro cactus has just begun to bloom. Interestingly, the Saguaro flowers at the end of its branching arms. But, each flower only blossoms for one day.
Look closely at the ends of the cactus arms16 -
Here is a close up of the Saguaro cactus flowers15 -
Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Yes and damn I killed it today. 30 plus of weight training, an hour hike and 15 min of HIIT.
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? Yes. As I recall before there was no rules about eating back calories or not but when I was most sucussful loosing weight I did not make it a habit to do so. Maybe once a week.
Today was a day I did eat back some. How does everyone feel about this?
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? Yes. Photo of lunch that was enjoyed today!

@lexabeep, thank you for reminding me that I have chickpeas in the cupboard!
MFP is designed for us to eat our exercise calories back. If I did the amount of exercise that you did today and did not eat back a good portion of those, I would be starving, and subsequently I would binge on everything in sight! Being a little hungry as we try to lose weight is one thing, but anything beyond a "little" does not work for me!11 -
May 2
Exercised: Yes (20 mins bodyweight)
Tracked: Yes
Budget: Yes
Weather has been bad (raining) here for the last 4 days. No walking. In fact wettest start to the year on record for Melbourne.
Even though I have not reported in for a few days, I have been tracking and doing exercise (except May 1, not enough energy to do my replacement bodyweight routine - so one pass day in May already).
Routine here changed over the last week. Work has been more demanding than normal. That combined with poor mental health (both myself and my daughter), more medical tests and consultations (due to the mini-stroke, the hospitals TIA clinic making contact, and starting statins to work on cholesterol imbalance). Sleep and posting here had taken a back seat.
I am having mostly average to bad days currently. My wife and family have been amazingly supportive. More than I could ever ask.
I will make it a priority to read and respond here daily. UAC is such an amazing community. You have helped me through so much.
For those new to UAC, I have been diagnosed as being in a major depression episode at present. Being part of UAC and doing daily activity will help get me through this episode. However, it is often a struggle at times for me to remain in contact.26 -
@craigo3154 We've all missed you, friend. Good to see you here today.8

These are the best we can do here in Montpellier, in a little triangle at the end of my road, apart from some rather splendid ones in the Botanical Gardens, which are now closed due to lockdown ...I think of you, @RangerRickL in the desert in Arizona now, every time I go out shopping!

It seems soo odd that "France has cacti", but then you are practically on the Med in Montpellier aren't you? And it's not like everywhere in the same province of Ontario has the same kind of climate (let alone all of Canada)4

@BMcC9 Gets very hot here in the summer!
@craigo3154 Really pleased you are back and posting! Your candid posts have helped me a lot!8 -
Pass. 91 calories over.11

2nd May
Another good day!
Exercise: Yes, did my permitted 60 minutes of walking again. I had to use 15 minutes for shopping, but I cheated and went out for another 15 minutes later on. I altered the time on my exit document for today from 10 to 16, so I didn't have to do a new paper.
Calories: Yes, stayed under. Had more or less the same as yesterday to use up leftover food, but didn't have any wine. Snacked on tea and a biscuit.
@lexabeep: On the whole I don't eat back my calories, but my exercise doesn't actually generate that many. I do occasionally, mostly only a few, but I try not to. I think I might if I were in maintenance, but I still need to lose a good 10 kilos. I'm rarely hungry, as I try and eat food that's filling but not high in calories. Your lunch looked delicious! I love chickpeas!
Tracking: Yes, logged everything.
Did a few more domestic chores and finally made some progress with my 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle. Sat outside in the sunshine with my embroidery and a few more chapters of my current BBC podcast. Heaven!11 -
Such a good day today. Went for a long walk, over an hour then an online Jiu Jitsu class with my house mate and a YouTube yoga class because we are both feeling the week's exercise a bit. Ordered pizza and got some ice cream for treat day (first take aways since late March due to lockdown).
I logged everything and was within my goal. Treats are totally allowed in my world as long as they are rare not everyday things.
I've only picked up about 6kg in my nearly 18 months since I was last at full strength, even with 5 weeks of lockdown with limited exercise and too many treats, so I feel like I have the nutrition balance of my life right. I'm now focusing on getting my strength and endurance back to my pre broken arm and kidney donation state.
I chose my calorie budget based on the average tdee (total daily energy expenditure) meaning it is the average of what I burn each day through normal life and exercise. This means I don't need to eat exercise calorie back. On rest days I may burn like but on other days I burn more so overall it balances and if I have had a day when I did lots of exercise, I can allow myself to go over my budget slightly if I feel I need to. Mostly I like to work with a stable number of calories per day, without it changing based on how much I exercise. I lost about 25kg, maintained the loss for a good 3 or more years and then kept the increase manageable in my unit and surgery recovery period using this system, so I know it works for me This is what I have found works for me, but everyone must figure out what works best for them.12 -
