Travel and eating away from home

Hello, Is anybody out there travelling and eating away from home? How do you manage? What are your strategies for restaurants and hotels?
I picked up one strategy a long time ago from my old boss, who was and is a very health conscious man. In a restaurant, instead of looking at a menu, he simply asks for what he wants. Most places can do simple chicken or fish with side veggies. Then I add my survival tip of pushing the bread basket far away from me. And I talk a lot, LOL, also my party strategy!

Dude I was just gonna start this convo today! Crazy lol. I'm leaving today to go to Utah for camping and maybe a hike or two. But when I travel, my diet is crap. I will try to just ask for what I want and let you know how it goes. Awesome topic laura!1

The truth is I couldn't. I work in media centres well out of town and the only food available to journalists is what you get supplied with - almost always sandwiches, rice, potatoes, pasta.
Some media centres and tournaments are better than others. I really tried my best and used to take Waitrose cup soups and protein bars but for a 10-day -fortnight tournament it was intolerable.
In the end after a BIG heart to heart with my GP, I accepted that if I wanted to continue travelling round the world etc, something would have to give and so I went on to meds for control and LC whenever I could manage it at home.
When I am away - it is protein and veg wherever I can manage it. If I can my breakfast go-to is greek yoghurt, otherwise order an omelette/scrambled egg and bacon.
Lunch I can usually get away with a cup-soup I bring with me and then I can just about cope with a more carb-laden dinner if I have no options like just protein and veg.

As the saying goes 'something's gotta give'. You are doing fine in circumstances where you don't get much choice. Bravo you!1
