WELCOME to all walkers!

The October Walk Challenge starts soon, so now is the time to be thinking about our new monthly challenge goals!

Having Leslie's, or other walking DVDs, to pop in the player can be a great addition to walking outdoors in the crisp cool days of Autumn. For those who are enjoying the onset of cooler weather, walking or hiking outdoors might well continue to be a pleasant alternative to the DVDs. For those of us who live where high temperatures outdoors could easily remain for another month or so, the DVDs are awesome when it is impossible to get up with the sun to squeeze in a quick, cooler walk early in the morning.
One thing is for sure... we are definitely at least getting closer to enjoying the wonderful sights, scents, tastes... and of course the amazing colors, of Autumn. How about where you live... are the leaves ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ‚ falling, or the cold fronts trying to move in yet?? Enjoy!!!

This group is open to any and all walkers ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿšถโ€โ™€๏ธ however you get your walk in. There may be times when walking is not always an option for a number of reasons, so feel free to substitute other forms of exercise when needed, or for a change in routine.
We are a happy, supportive group, and I promise that joining this month's walk challenge will motivate, challenge, as well as inspire you, as you in turn will inspire others! So come on in and join us!

Whenever you are posting what you have accomplished please remember to also share any strength training or other types of workouts that you are doing. We all benefit greatly by learning from one another and getting new ideas. And it is such an encouragement to read each others' posts.

The goal that you choose is your own personal goal for this month ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ‘Ÿ , so change it up however you would like to.

If you find this group in the middle of the month it truly doesn't matter which day of the month that you join in. Just set your goals to reflect what you hope to accomplish during the remaining days of this month. So if you are new to the group please feel free to start today so that by the end of the month you will be that much closer to your health goals. It is never too late to join in, you are always welcome!

And now... let us lace up those walking shoes and get some water... as we begin to walk into October 2020!

mmmm .... oh, yes!! this is also the month when we can enjoy all things 'pumpkin' :yum: ..... as well as all of the other wonderful sights, scents, and yummy tastes of autumn ;)

As always, together, we can do this,

Today I woke up and had a cinnamon and sweet monkfruit latte. I WILL CELEBRATE ALL THINGS FALL this month.

I am committed to moving in a purposeful way 30 minutes a day. Maybe 3 minutes every hour some days, but 30 minutes minimum everyday. Please hold me to that guys- whether I walk, hike for hours, stretch it out- I need to move.

I am committed to at least 1 recovery salt bath soak every week. It's been good for my brain and body to soak.

I am committed to coming here to check in and let you guys I moved because the accountability of the group helps.

What a great plan! It's doable and it's so needed, to give yourself some "me time" for body AND brain.

    October Goals

    80 Miles Tracked
Apple Watch Challenge: Earn 200% of my Move goal 2x this month. (What the heck, Apple?)

I love a good bath soak. I have to pick up some more epsome salt. The last scent I have was coconut lime. :)
What type o fbreed is your pupper, @mypinkbikini ?

@deeder522 He's a beagle mix and he's got those BIG sweet pleading eyes and happy feet every day- even though he's too old to go for longer walks now (today's walk left him hurting at the end and after), he'll always be our little puppy. With that said, we are NEVER getting a beagle AGAIN. The baying/howling, the anxious energy at times (worse as he ages), and the general naughtiness anytime he's off leash somewhere- one beagle is enough for a human lifetime

@mypinkbikini I also agree that you have come up with a very doable plan!
I love your description of your 'always a puppy, no matter his true age'. Seems like he knows how his eyes can melt your heart <3 despite the quirks of the breed o:) . Awesome walk you all had today!

@Deeder522 200% of any anything related to an exercise challenge just sounds wrong ๐Ÿ˜ฒ.

80 Miles Tracked = good goal!!

My goal will be using the rebounder for 2-3 times a day for short segments (how long depends on how my feet/ ankles are doing that day) when I can tolerate it, so that I can incorporate some cardio. I'm also doing other activities to stay active either in addition to the rebounder, or instead of, again it all depends....

October 1: 20 minutes easy walking in the house, 30 minutes yard clean up

(picking up sticks and debris after the last several days of windy weather that brought in wonderfully cooler temps in the mornings-with opened windows!! However, back up to 90 degrees this afternoon  )

Going for 100 miles this month. Seems that when you adopt a puppy, you are going to rack up some miles, no matter what.... ha-ha. He's a mutt, mostly fox terrier. He sure lives life to the fullest. If he's not going at it full tilt, then he must be asleep.

Oh, man! Mostly a Fox Terrier. You're asking for lots of miles now!

@mypinkbikini : Aww, Beagle! My dog growing up was part beagle and loved to sniff out everything she could.

37 minutes on foot exploring a new town, full of foliage charm, with my husband. Ended the night with beer and warm subs at a local tavern. Perfection ๐Ÿ˜

70 minutes hiking - fallen leaves were lovely but no real million dollar views on this one and 70 minutes antiquing. New England is fabulous this time of year.

Earned some extra calories so I had an oktoberfest beer with dinner and now I'm enjoying a vodka soda with my latest Joanne fluke novella ๐Ÿ˜

@mypinkbikini Lots of fun hiking in the woods, antiquing, and enjoying Octoberfest!
A while back I had listened to all the available Joanne Fluke books. I had not realized that she has continued writing more books! I had forgotten about that fun series.

@AnnofB your mileage with your puppy is adding up quickly!

@texasgardnr - hannah Swenson is my favorite storybook character now, fluke is still writing 2 books annually on average ๐Ÿ˜ and I'm considering another cozy mystery series but I'm afraid I won't fall as hard for anyone else as I did for hannah and moishe

With that said i did more hiking and small town exploring today for over an hour and it was glorious.

Hannah Swenson was/is really a special cozy character for me also. So far I haven't come across another cozy book that made me like someone else better than Hannah yet.

Yesterday I unpacked when we got home and sorted laundry. Fitbit didn't record any activity minutes but I'm counting it for Yesterday because it took the rest of my energy!

Today I'm hoping to do all the getaway laundry, vacuum, grocery shop and maybe even sneak in a short walk with leslie or a stretch with Adrienne if I've got anything left in the tank after. Have a great day everyone.

I cannot believe the last time I logged in here was August 21! I was sure I had made a September goal, but in all honesty, September was a blur! I have officially retired, sold my house in MI, had dental surgery and moved to NY all in September!! It was a whirlwind month! I am now in the Adirondack Mountains of NY living among a ton of boxes as we finish the remodeling of this house that COVID interrupted over the summer. I can't put much away as each room in this house has things left to finish. UGH!!! We are also in quarantine for 14 days even though NY does not require Michiganders to do so. We just figured it would be safer for everyone since we took several trips between the two states.

I read through all the posts from the end of August and last month and I am so sorry for the foot pain so many of you are having. It makes it so hard to walk when your feet hurt I know. I hope all of you are on the mend and able to get in your walks.

@VeggieGirlforLife Your plaster removal story reminded me of how heavy plaster is and what a work out it can be. When we bought our first house, we remodeled the kitchen and it had plaster walls. I got home from work early one afternoon and decided to surprise my DH by having an entire wall down for him. I took a sledge hammer and knocked that wall down and put all the lath and plaster in the box our new dryer came in on the back porch! I was so proud! When he got home, he was glad to see the wall down, but asked me where I put the plaster? When I said in the dyer box so we can just "slide it into the back of the truck from the porch and take it to the dump." My husband just looked at me in a way that only an engineer can and said "How many people do you think we will need to move that box, assuming it will hold together while we do it?" OOOPS! So I got to shovel that plaster ... 2 more times!!!!! :noway:

@Deeder522 I am so sorry you were exposed to COVID in an office where everyone is supposed to be masked as it is MI law. It was so scary to hear about the plot against our governor when all she is trying to do is keep people alive. I hope you tested negative. Happy Anniversary also!!!

In September, I had several days over 4 miles just dealing with the house sale and packing etc. However, since I have been here, I have not even managed to get to 3 miles!!! I have no idea where my Leslie DVDs are nor do I have any space in this house to work out at the moment, even if I could find them. But, I have to set a goal or I will sit at this computer and fall into the dark hole that is You Tube! So, my goal is to get 3 miles on my Garmin each day by getting things done in this house and taking a walk each day in the crisp fall air.

October goal: 3 miles on the Garmin each day or 93 mils for October.

    1-Garmin tracked 2.5 miles=2.5 miles total
    2-Garmin tracked 2.2 miles=4.7 miles total
    3-Garmin tracked 2.2 miles=6.9 miles total
    4-Garmin tracked 2.8 miles=9.7 miles total
    5-Garmin tracked 2.8 miles=12.5 miles total
    6-Garmin tracked 2.5 miles=15.0 miles total
    7-Garmin tracked 1.5 miles=16.5 miles total
    8-Garmin tracked 1.3 miles=17.8 miles total

    Walk Strong Everyone!

Today I stepped for at least 2.5 minutes each of 10 of my waking hours and then I pushed myself another fast mile or so over 16 minutes before dinner. There's my 30 for today.

Yesterday was one of those 3 minutes every hour for 10 hours days. I had nothing left when I got home so we plopped on the couch for TV. I did enjoy 2 homemade pumpkin cookies with a maple glaze for breakfast though... finding a little fall joy in every day I can ๐Ÿ‚ before the winter comes
