Runners that need some nutritional accountability

@shanaber I'm with you. I don't know if I really want to have it done now, or just wait until after the holidays. That may come up in conversation next week. When I was originally trying to decide whether to wait 3 months or not, I had a follow up CT scanned scheduled. I haven't canceled that - was waiting until after I knew I would get the surgery. So, if nothing else, we could at least see if it was growing faster and had become an emergency - but it isn't scheduled until Dec 21. Maybe they could move it up a week or so. Sorry your DD had to have so many procedures as a baby. That must be hard on everyone involved.
@Avidkeo Hope you can get some rest today. Sorry, not sorry, about the juggling comment. That is just what I thought when I first read your post.

@Elise4270 Re: cranberries on top. I think it would work to toss them in a skillet with a little water and cook them until they burst, then add them. That’s basically how I make a quick cranberry sauce, takes five minutes - I add a little vanilla, cinnamon, lemon juice, and OJ, which isn’t appropriate for curry. Or maybe it is, depending on the curry! Maybe not the vanilla though. anyway it keeps them from having that raw taste which is really too much.2

I have gone through and planned/prepared all my food for the weekend. I'm going out of town for 2 nights for work, and will be staying in a motel for 2 nights. I think the motel will have a microwave so I've got some simple pasta meals for dinner. And have made up a salad for lunch, and overnight oats for breakfasts.
I'm not good at sticking to plan when on my own. Will see how it goes..3 -
@Avidkeo You have done well with planning and cooking your meals. You've got this!1
-
@Avidkeo Good luck with the weekend foods! You got this.
@rheddmobile I like that idea with the cranberries. Dh said he'd have eaten them in the curry. Have you ever made butter chicken? I think I will try to make it with aloo gobi sometime. I have a lentil chili to make before tasking that meal though. I have some classmates from Nepal, I could ask them for a recipe, mmm. They shared a meal with me one day, I really love Indian food. They love to cook and cook for the Asian Society fundraisers...
________________
I'm tired and unmotivated today. Pain is calming down and I keep thinking about what I could possibly do to help. I guess wait until April for my follow up. DH suggested I take narcotics, I declined and did took tylenol. I could make an appointment with the PT, she's very helpful, but she pushed the frozen shoulder then I lost Alex and was put off. I should make amends and let her help me, that's why she's there.
School
I seem to be caught up today, suppose I should actually study for Mondays pharmacology exam. or chip at next weeks assignments a bit.

@Elise4270 I’ve never done butter chicken but we used to have aloo gobi all the time, I need to make it more often. I sort of cycle through different phases and lose track of stuff I used to make all the time! Chicken saag is my husband’s favorite. There’s a website, vahrehvah.com which has a lot of good video recipes. The chef is from Hyderabad which is a junction of a lot of different cuisines.
I have eaten so much food the past three days. Combo of longer runs, colder weather, and election stress is really getting to me. I had a porterhouse steak which I was going to split between two meals and I just ate it all. I’m technically still under calories but only if I borrow some from my long run day. I wish they would go ahead and call this thing.
Re: the colder weather. I have a raccoon family which lives in the ceiling of my outside storeroom and I saw the momma raccoon this morning and she has gotten HUGE. She has clearly been putting on weight for winter and getting a winter coat. My mom’s horses are unusually fluffy for this time of year too. Seems like it’s gonna be a cold winter.
3 -
@rheddmobile Thanks for the Indian food reciepe. I'll check it out. I haven't tried saag. I found a recipe for dum aloo and plan to try it.
Re: winter. I mentioned to DH that it looked like it was going to be a cold one finally this year too (it is 2020, maybe hell is about to freeze over HA!). The little birds were stealing dog food a few weeks ago and the crows were even in on it, which I've never seen before. We bought bird food and I hung the feeder under the porch so it won't get wet and mildew and have another feeder coming today for the front. I am in awe of your raccoon neighbors. So cute.

Yesterday I walked/ran the Roan Mountain 10K and ate like I had run an ultra. I just couldn't get enough food. Was up about half a pound this morning. Not worried, as long as I don't do that every day!2
-
@quilteryoyo - lol, I cracked up at your comment that you ate like you had run an ultra. I fear the way the covid numbers are rising, your surgery will get put off even more. Hopefully I'm wrong.
@elise4270 - a 92! Amazing to me with all you've been through, and still going through.
So the last week was very stressful and I decided to just eat apparently. I thought I was doing sort-of okay, but today I was up 2.8 and now in the danger/red/not-happy-zone. How fast it comes back on! I am back to logging everything and will bring it back down. At least I've been exercising, but not running much at all. I am forcing myself to look at the graph/data to see when all of this started. BRB...
OK, just looked and it looks like Oct 19 and onward is when I have gone hog-wild.
So 3 weeks... okay that's not as bad as I thought. I blame the election. But, now it's time to get back to the old normal. I don't want to go into the holidays at this weight.
This morning on Peloton the instructor said, right before a tough part was coming up, "remember how much panicking helped you in the past?" And I thought... wow, I needed to hear that! Time to R E L A X my brain!
4 -
@ddmom0811 Glad you got a chuckle out of that. I fear the same thing you do about CoVID and my surgery. I am actually thinking about talking to them about getting another scan in early December and, if it's not grown any, or very little, to put it off until 2021. Had I decided to wait 3 months, I would have gotten a scan on 21 Dec. I still have that one scheduled. I'm going to ask if we could move that up to maybe the first week of Dec and go from there. They may not want to do it, but it won't hurt to ask.
Also, I can gain 2.8 pounds overnight. So, having only gained that much in 3 weeks is pretty good. I'm confident you will lose it quickly too.1 -
@ddmom0811 eh a few extra calories is probably good for healing anyway. Election? oh i think I heard something about that... I wanted to see how long I could go without knowing anything. Apparently about 2 seconds if you get on FB. Least the orange devil is on his way back to Hades. *shrugs* I was so tired of his chauvinism that DH thought was a white male right or something. *sheesh* LOL!
My 8 AM class was moved to a ZOOM today with covid. I have a pharm exam at 12 and have been listing to a new to me station (indie) and not listing to a word in class, working on assignments, drinking chai tea. Now I have an invite to a breakout room... sheesh... I do not wanna play with the other kids today. I think she is having technical difficulties so perhaps I can get back to my thing. I have a 91 in there and I'm pouting at the prospect of a B in an 8 hr class, and I just don't wanna play her game today. Have exam, need my headspace today.
PT tomorrow. so happy.
@quilteryoyo Sounds like you have a good plan. Not a doctor, and sure your doc has given you info. I learned this week that blood clots are a complication of aneurysms. I had no idea...
ETA had to play with the other kids and do blood gases. ahh I miss chemistry.
@quilteryoyo Just don't dismiss any potential warning signs.1 -
Thanks @Elise4270 for the info. I won't. Good luck on your exam.0
-
Hey all. Popping in to say weekend was a disaster. Bored = ate too much. Sigh. In a bad cycle, and away this weekend as well.
Am so tired. Probably junk food related. Oh well. Happens.3 -
@Avidkeo Can you go out for a run or walk when you're bored? Or read a good book? Might help some with the mindless eating.1
-
@elise4270 so impressed with the new recipes....look at you! gorgeous pic of the curry. And all that you have on your plate and are still doing well in classes....you are so strong!
@quilteryoyo sorry that your surgery is put off but I agree...you want the best care and deserve it! I agree.....I go up 2.8 pounds daily....get the scan...they owe you peace of mind at this point.
@ddmom0811 right there with you re eating and election and stress. I just can't bring myself to logging yet but that is what it is. And the sweets.....I think I can exercise my way out of the issue but we all know that is a lie~
@Avidkeo sorry that the weekend was tough. It's not normal so I wouldn't stress about it - you have so much self control on a normal schedule. You can do it!
I have started a power zone challenge that goes for 6 weeks where you are assigned to a team for accountability. The goal is to improve cycling efficiency and power....like training for a marathon....endurance and tempo and sprint type runs only cycling. Still dealing with the hip joint pain. Only hurts to walk or run....and stretch, squat, bend, etc. 😂😂😂😂😂 The PT explained yesterday that due to the imbalance in strength and flexibility from right to left, that that can add to the pelvic tilt/torsion. So strength and stretching for now. And back to chiropractor.
Food: hello fresh a few nights....trying to get more healthy veggies and salads in....and the dang sweets, etc. I am overwhelmed by the mess that is our politics and so it just makes me want to eat candy. And drink wine......
4 -
@bearly63 Sorry about your hip pain. I hope the PT and chiropractor can help. The cycling challenge sounds, well, challenging! Good luck.0
-
I did not do so well on the last pharm exam. Pharm is supposed to be my jam. 81. I'll have to shift a bit and dig into those concepts that I dismissed as being too in-depth for this course. Think that drops me from a 93.5-94 to a 90.
Horrible migraine today. Period hormones and stress I suppose. I thought i was menopausal? what happened to a cycle once every 6 months?
Jerks
No antidepressant yesterday and astounding jerks, interesting.
Pt for the up-slipped hip, I'll be thinking of you @bearly6, willing your hip to be less painful.
Ultrasound for the fat armpit tomorrow. Whatever it is, it needs to go.
Food
I have the stuff to make butter chicken. I think it's do-able if I just get the marinade together then throw it in the IP since I'm not feeling so hot today. yes, hot. how can I be menopausal, have night sweats and regular periods? I'm suspicious of the night sweats now.
Bear
I haven't put him on the scale yet but he seems to have gained back some weight. yay! although he could slim down a tad and hed be fine.1 -
@elise4270 sorry for the migraine and hormonal BS....we women have it rough IMHO! hang in there!
1 -
@Elise4270 Hope the migraine goes away. Hang in there with the night sweats and periods. I was so glad when I stopped my period, but do still occasionally have the night sweats - 13 years later.1
-
Hey. Thanks for the encouragement.
Am now out of that phase. Going away again this weekend but less worried cause we will be doing a lot if stuff so the same situation won't be there.
I think part of it is messed up hormones. Has the mirena inserted 3 months ago. Been good. Period is due but just isn't happening. I'm not worried about that, but I think over the weekend my progesterone went through the roof, hence appetite gone crazy! Combined with boredom... Recipe for disaster.
I didn't want to weigh in today but, well figured it's better to see what happened and deal than stick my head in the sand and ignore it. Up 7lb (3kg). Now I know that most of that is water weight, etc. I'll just get back in and keep going now. The trend was nice said only gained 1lb. So will see.2 -
@bearly63 hugs on the hip. No fun at all! That challenge sounds fun! I'm going to have to start cycling to work. They are building a new building and it's going to take away a lot of carparks, so parking is going to be a nightmare. Fortunately it's not far, about 3k. But it's hilly!
@elise4270 how important are good grades? Here no one cares what your grades are unless you are wanting to do post graduate study, and you only need a B average for that, or if you are failing. I think your grades sound amazing!
Good luck tomorrow with the US.

When I was driving this morning I thought about how I blamed the election for my eating, and that's not really fair. I shouldn't blame anyone for what I put in my mouth! As a teacher I always told the kids to take responsibility for their actions and here I am acting the election crammed chocolate in my mouth.
Was down 1.5 today! Yay. The 2.8 gain was over the weekend, but that was on top of another 2 - so it was really more like 5 in 3 weeks. But I know I can get back on track.
I ran today! On TM! 4 miles. I did a peloton 60s run it was fun!
@bearly63 - I did a power zone test and my FTP was 159. I don't think I did it right - didn't push hard enough! Back in 2015 when I used to go to a triathlete gym the Zwift bikes had an FTP and I think my FTP was 201. But I could be remembering incorrectly. I should hope it would have gone up after all these years of cycling! In any case, after the FTP test, the next day I did a power zone ride and it seemed way too easy to be in zone 2&3 for as long as I was.
But I'll figure it out!
So... at lunch yesterday one of my co-workers brought in Snickerdoodles. I had 2. But as I said I was still down because after all the crap I ate the last few weeks, that was like a few crumbs. He brought them in because I had brought in a cookie cake on Thursday and chocolate chip cookies another day. Payback is hell, lol.

Pt visit was productive, I can walk without pain, I am just weak and need a little training. I see her again Thursday. yay! we did something like biofeedback with direct current to help break this pain loop and it will identify angry muscles that we can isolate and work on. She realigned my hips and I stretched to show her a spot on my hip scar that was shockingly tender and pulled my hip right back out LOL! She said, "don't cross stretch like that for now". The hip scar seems to be some scar tissue that needs to be released. That is easy peasy work. My ilicas was tight and she helped with it (muscle on the inside of the ileum, pelvic crest bone)
@ddmom0811 Stress triggers the desire for those quick carbs. Blame it on the dinosaurs chasing us way back when and our bodies interpreted any stressor as a physical threat. Dang genes! LOL!
@Avidkeo My self-worth is based on my grades. I do have to maintain a 3.0 in nursing courses to stay in the program. We were told our grades wont be an indicator of passing the licensing exam, so... ya. I should find self-worth elsewhere, like violin which is past my practice time... I'm just enjoying the lack of pain currently and reluctant to get up.
I am still extra jerky. I like my jerks, they are like little friends made of synapses, calcium ions, acetylcholine and receptors, glutamate, alpha, beta, nicotinic, muscarinic, blah blah stuff that I didn't study on this last exam and earned meself an 81... haha! ok fiddle time.2 -
@Avidkeo Those hormones can reek havoc on our systems. Good for you for weighing today. Now you know and can get down to business.
@ddmom0811 Sounds like you have the right attitude. Sounds like you had a great run.
@Elise4270 Yeah for not being in pain! So glad the PT helped that much. I'm going to blame the dinosaur's every time I stress eat from now on.1 -

“FINDINGS:
RIGHT BREAST ULTRASOUND:
Scattered fibroglandular tissue is noted diffusely throughout the
right breast.
A 3.8 x 0.8 x 0.9 cm reactive lymph node is identified in the right

2020. No suspicious mass. No dilated ducts. No cysts.
The deep pectoral fascia and pectoralis muscle are normal. The skin is
normal in thickness.”
I, uhhh disagree with the radiologist who suggest to just live with it and watch it. It’s a pain. I’m going to push for removal/biopsy. @Avidkeo you have any insight? I see my pcp mid December, but may get a call from them regarding the results tomorrow which won’t do me any good getting the golf ball out of my arm pit, unless he also feels it warrants more aggressive actions.
Made butter chicken
Mmmm I think it’s my favorite homemade Indian dish yet!
How are y’all doin’? Eating well? Running in some cooler weather? Meal planning for the holidays?2 -
I am behind, again.
I slipped (again) at agility class on Monday night. I slipped and then as I tried to recover and take a step it felt like my hip gave out and it hurt. I managed to keep from falling but the two steps I took felt so weird. I was able to continue the run, cautiously and then rested and stretched before our next turn. I must have yelped or something because it freaked Hobbes out and he wouldn't leave my side. I took an Aleve as soon as I got home and didn't move much at all on Tuesday, well other than walking around Costco. I felt great this morning so we gave the run a try and ended up walking home part way. Now it feels fine, maybe a little achy. I am thinking I may need to go in to see the orthopedist. Stretching and rolling just doesn't seem to be doing enough to really make it go away. I am kind of in limbo land though since I switch to medicare next month. If I can get in before then I won't need a referral but after that I will need a referral.
I made a stew over the weekend and that will be dinner tonight. The rest of it went into the freezer. I haven't been hungry and haven't been eating enough, not a good place for me to be in. I have lost the election stress, weight I gained and a little bit more.
@elise4270 - I would be wanting that lymph node out too, especially since it has come up so quickly. Hope your PCP will see it that way too.
Can you share the butter chicken recipe? Would it work for fish? I had butter fish at a restaurant that was so good!
@ddmom0811 - I love Snickerdoodles! They were my favorite when I was a kid. I don't make them very often though and am not a fan of store/bakery bought. Nice on the weight loss!
@quilteryoyo - were you able to talk to your doctor's office about getting the scan sooner?0 -
@shanaber the butter chicken is here. I don’t see why it wouldn’t work with fish. If you make it with this recipe or another let me know. We don’t get good fish here but maybe a frozen cod would do, I’d like to try it. We have frozen mahi-mahi too. So I may try it.
I’ve had that swollen node for a few years, it just seem to be larger or more noticeable with weight gain.1 -

No real insight. I too have fibro glandular breast tissue. Basically just dense breasts. Don't know much about reactive lymph node but a quick Google says it's nothing to worry about, just a reaction (hence reactive) to infection. I wouldn't suggest removing unless it's really painful. That can lead to other worse issues like lymphodema. Maybe they can drain it? Always seek a second opinion if you aren't happy. I would wonder it its related to stress etc.

I'm good. Was good yesterday and was rewarded with 1.2kg loss on the scales (around 3lb). That was quick! It usually takes a few days of sticking to calories before that happens.
I was up at 5am, bladder woke me (above reason) and I couldn't sleep again, so got up and did my bike workout and strength training. I have the day off work, so had hoped for a sleep in, but getting it done early was nice. I walked the kids to school, then split my time playing my switch, packing for my trip, doing some quilting, doing some cross stitch and a little gardening. It was wonderful.
I'm about to go out for dinner with my students, celebrating them qualifying as Radiographers.
Tomorrow I'll be up at 630 for a run before heading to the airport for my trip. Looking forward to it.3 -
👋🏼
I've been lurking. Not posting much. Last week was a *kitten* show for me. I've been eating better and working out this week but haven't been tracking food. I get breakfast logged and then forget the rest of the day.
I missed last weekends weigh in. I think my body was fighting something. Felt off and temp was 99 (I'm usually in the 96-97 range). I basically sat around all weekend. I had tried to run Saturday but my body was like nope!3
