February's declutterfest starts tomorrow! I am so excited! I need to do this SO BAD!
Do you find it works best to set a goal of WHERE or WHAT you plan to declutter, or does it work better to have a goal of how long you plan to declutter each day? Or do you actually schedule what to work on, and which days to do it? I obviously need to freshen up on my organizational skills!
My plan at this time is to spend 15+ minutes each day decluttering the following areas:- Desktop
- File Drawers
- Tupperware cupboard
- Cookbook shelf
- Bedroom closet shelves
- Magazines upstairs
- Sewing supplies in sewing space
- Magazines in sewing space
- Crap on the shelves of bar downstairs
- Download photos from FB to iCloud
- Clean up HP laptop and back up on external drive
- Clean up Lenova and back up on external drive
- Digital declutter photos
- Digital declutter documents

Hey @PackerFanInGB !
I’m glad it was a helpful idea!
As for your question - there is no right answer!
Looking at your great list, what I would do is spend a minimum of 15 mins per day on first item until it’s fine them move in to the next...
I began before Marie Kondo so I took things from FlyLady.net.
If I wasn’t sure where to start, I’d log on to Flylady (I was never a daily member) and do the special cleaning activity! And then do a 27 thing fling boogie in that room.
After reading Marie Kondo, I began with books since clothing was too tough as I had spent so much in my heavy clothes...wanted to be sure I could lose the weight first
It took me 6 weeks to go thru all of my teaching, son’s, and my books. (Left hubby’s for when upheld was so moved.) such hard work. Carting to library etc. hmHired a teen to do 1-2 trips.
Then I did all papers. I did them by category- teaching, hobbies, recipes, medical, home repair, adddresses/phone numbers, saved Xmas & personal letters...most of the latter went to Sentimental zone.
As I recycled & shredded toms of papers, I then would spend time “hunting for papers” & then do them.
One note: I’ve gone through my loose recipes 3 times, decreasing volume a lot each time. This last time I moved cookbooks & recipes that were mostly sentimental to that area.
What I’m trying g to say is going through everything g at one level & then as you feel like it doing another pass, or partial pass really works!
And the 2nd, 3rd etc passes I find are really fun! The heavy lifting and Vast number of decisions are behind you. You like your cleaner simpler space. You realize what you use & what you don’t lol...and fingering our ways to organize what you do need/love is super satisfying ❣️2 -
@PackerFanInGB I love the picture that you included with your post. It reminds me of a vintage cover that would've been on the Saturday Evening Post. It is a delightful picture. I like your list also!
