Meeting up with a friend to go ice fishing today. It's 16º out now but supposed to "warm up" to mid 20's. Stopping by church for Ash Wednesday service before going out. Ham radio club meeting tonight via ZOOM. Expecting 4-8" of snow tomorrow.

Stay warm, especially Steve in the sub-zero zone.

    Good Morning!

We have a heat wave going on here now. It is 7 outside, and snowing. We are supposed to get another 1-2 inches of snow today. It will be another fun drive into downtown and work. We have had 11 out of the last 12 days with at least some snow. I'd say we have a good 4 inches on the ground now. At least it is supposed to get into the teens today, 20s tomorrow, and warm up to maybe freezing by the weekend. That will make over two weeks below freezing. We have not seen weather here like this in something like 80 years, which means I have not seen anything like this in Kansas. I'd rather see 80 in February in Kansas. That's what I'd like to see.

Not much else to report. I'm still working on the year end reports. I still hope to be finished this week. I still have a shot at getting it done in three days.

My hip has been bothering me, so I have not been walking as much on the treadmill. I have not been running for several weeks now, and my knee thanks me for that. I went to the chiropractor yesterday, and she said I had rotated my pelvis quite a bit. I remember walking outside with a dog, and stepping into an unexpected hole in the dark. It still hurts this morning, but I'm hoping to be able to use the treadmill again tomorrow. I need to head out earlier this morning anyway due to much slower driving conditions.

    Have a great day!

    Mornin' gents.

Rolling blackouts. Sub zero weather. Its 2021. Wow.

Hang in there Steve. Keep the fire going.

Thanks for your input on the pork loin, Dave. It was a bit of an experiment and DW cannot abide under done pork, so I erred on the done side. Personally, I would have used a classic porchetta (pork belly with skin still on) or even a butterflied pork butt and taken it to 190 degrees, but DW wanted a leaner cut. Chalk it up to a learning experience.

    Be OP ;-)

Yup a big Wow Lee! Most of us are looking to better times in 2021 but yikes cold temps, rolling blackouts aren't helping many. Sorry about your wife not liking less done pork.. I get it by my wife has slowly come around to the safety in pink pork etc.

Thicker patches of compacted snow and ice are melting slowly as expected. Fortunately for us the roads in our neighborhood are mostly free of compacted snow except near the curbs and in corners where two streets meet. They got a record report of over 10" of snow in Portland (second most from a snowstorm in February). A lot more snow from downtown out to the airport on the eastside. We never saw more than at most a bit less than 3" of compacted snow and ice out on the far westside.
Getting back to "normal" whatever that is these days.

We are sunny but cold for here, starting out at 25 should reach 50's
Most hogs feet never touch the ground now so we do not have to worry about under cooked pork but I still do not want it pink.
Have not decided on attending Ash Wednesday service tonight,
2 classes today, best get going

    Good morning gentlemen.

I empathize with your hip pain, Steve. My troublesome hip is still hurting. One thing I have learned is that pain in the hip joint, itself, is actually felt in the groin or in the front, above your thigh. If you feel the pain out on what feels like your hip, it is either a nerve issue or tendons. It makes sense if you look at a physiological diagram. I have been getting relief from lidocaine patches i stick on the affected spot and leave all day.

Sorry about your arctic temps, Steve. We were just commenting on how spring-like it was looking, here - 10 days ago. Then winter blasted back through. I still expect to see crocuses in a couple weeks.

    Good Morning

I think getting the hip fully diagnosed is worth it. Pain in my hip back in 2015, was as Dave said actually nerve pain from my back. Worth sorting out to get the right treatment.

In Lee's honor, we had pan-fried pork chops last night, cooked to a juicy slightly pink. It has taken a while for my wife to adjust to a bit of pink in the pork. Yesterday's surprising achiness turned out to just be a one-day side effect of the Pfizer vaccine the day before. PT didn't help much, but by afternoon it eased and a couple time-release tylenol got me 8 1/2 hours sleep. Feel great today. Just conference calls for Miracle Friends and get back to tuning my dulcimer. I was too stiff and sore yesterday to be able to do it.

Dave, thank you for the insight. In the past, I have had ITB issues which for sure run down the side of the body from the hip area to the knee. This is different. I am mostly feeling the pain in the front, just like you described. It is in the groin area, above the quads.

No pink in our household. Both Connie and I like very well done.

Snow finally ending here, and sun trying to come out.

Have a great rest of your day!
