Adjusting male / female on MFP for trans ppl

Hello!

Right, I'm a trans woman who has been on HRT for 3-ish years. Now I put my sex as female in MFP on the basis that muscle loss / fat redistribution has obviously occurred and will have an effect, but I wondered how other trans people have dealt with this?

I always set my own custom calorie goals based on what I have found to be my "maintenance" or "loss" amounts, so it's not a factor for me because I'm not using their calculations.

Thanks for reply..I guess I'll see how it goes, but it's less of a problem rn as I have plenty to lose, but from previous experience, getting towards goal weights means that these differences become magnified =/

That makes sense. The closer to goal the more every tiny little tweak matters. Eating healthy and losing weight when you have 50 lbs to lose is a way different process than if you only have 5 lbs to lose, at least for me, the closer I get to goal the more diligent I have to be about tracking because even a hundred or two "lost" calories each day can make or break any weight loss for the week.

The good thing about tracking food is you can look back and see what you have eaten, and do the math, and figure out what you are averaging and what you did or didn't lose in that time, and customize the goal for you as an individual. All the calculators are just averages, and they don't give more than an average view of anyone, but the more data you track about you specifically the more valuable those metrics will be for setting individual goals.

    Just my thoughts...

I .just. joined and set my profile as F based similar considerations. I’m only 8 mos in and on low dose hrt so I have noticed a slowing of metabolism all the same. Also, um, some weight gain…
  • I used Male I think coming back this time? I'm transmasculine non-binary. I've been on HRT for 7 or 8 yrs but came off of T in the last year. But I think given my own physiological challenges with HRT I would even be happy if there was an intersex option. I was successful at MFP once before, losing 140 lbs between 2014 and 2016 . At the time I was already in transition and signed up using F because that's still what it said on my documents but the further I progressed in my weight loss, I switched it to M.
