Hi all! I'm Maryann, I'm 38. I'm finally actually 38 which means the age I've been telling people I am for the last 3 years is finally correct. I have a son who will turn 6 in September, and my hubs is trying to be on a similar journey (he needs some more encouragement). They are both my biggest supporters, and the most likely reason I'm dragged off plan. Life is about balance, right? LOL.
This will be my 9th UAC month. I'm 62lbs down over almost 2 years (I'm a slow and steady kind of girl), and I have 20ish left to go according to the BMI scale and my doctor. In reality, I'm just hoping to lose this c-section pooch one day. I'm strictly calories in, calories out. I exercise 6-7 days a week - alternating running outdoors and strength/HIIT at the gym. I am trying to embrace both the idea of rest days and adding yoga to my life more.
I am a cliché late 30's American female, and I love autumn. LOVE. I love running in cooler weather, I love hoodies and firepits, I love football (#denverbroncos), I love soccer... but I also love all the pumpkin flavored coffee beverages and need to find some balance with enjoying them while not consuming 1,000 calories of coffee a day. My kiddo is signed up for his first season of soccer this fall (both Hubs and I played) and the idea of a pumpkin spice latte while cheering on my kiddo makes my heart happy. I'll just need to follow it up with some laps around the soccer field.
I've been plateaued at 178-181 for like... 6 months now. Admittedly, I've also not stuck to 3 pass days for the last 4 months so I'm hoping getting back on plan will help that. I also gave in and just spent like $200 on size 10 jeans - which I was trying to avoid by wearing my 12s until I was an 8 - so I'm hoping that appeases the universe and she will allow my scale to move again.
Some days I don't post much, other days I ramble way too much. I'm hoping it all balances in the end.
Cheers, all! Let's make it a great September.10 -
Hello to all joining the UAC in September, both new and old!
My name is Chris. I am 49, quickly going on 60 physically, but am almost 14 mentally (when I'm not still only 5, that is).
I have been with the UAC since May and have come to rely on it a lot more than I expected to keep me both focused and sane while I go through this phase of my health journey.
This phase is one I entered with great confidence based on past results and a detailed, planned approach. I wanted to drop from 297 pounds to 180 (never been below 220 so that will be interesting). I weighed in at 237.6 yesterday.
I also wanted to get back in shape, cardio and strength-wise! While I started back into running (used to run quite a lot) I had to stop in July due to some plantar fasciitis starting to flare up. I've been walking for cardio since and have built up to quite a bit of mileage each week (currently 50+/week). I've been slacking on strength the last few weeks though. I need to get back on track there. Perhaps that will be part of my September goal focus.
So far it's working incredibly well, yet at the same time has also had some miserable failings (some of them described above), which in the past could well have derailed or distracted me bringing progress to a halt. Yet despite these ups and downs, things continue progressing well, in a very steady fashion, with no shortage of credit due to this challenge.
How this challenge keeps me on track is that it makes sure I never lose sight of the 3 basic requirements that need to be met regularly to succeed. These are the 3 daily questions answered.
Some months have been easier than others, but I am in this for the long term to reach those initial goals. After that, I can't wait to learn what this whole "maintenance" thing is all about!10 -
Hi yall! I'm Beth, been on Myfitnesspal for years, and done these UAC groups in the past... but kinda left for a really long time after having a kid. It just wasn't a priority at the time, I was worried about being a mom more. But, now, being a mom includes taking care of myself and my needs.
I have been feeling run down and I am sure that at least part of it is due to my weight. It has been getting higher and higher and while I have been feeling better health wise, I feel slow and tired.
I don't really want to work out that much, but I would like to try to do a little every day. I was thinking walking...as that is something I could do with my child. I have also begun fasting in the morning, which I'm hoping will start to give me a little more energy after lunch as my body will actually need the food at that point and it won't be slowing me down. I've begun logging my food again, and want to make sure I keep doing it consistently as better habits is what I need to make this happen.
My weight as of Monday is 187, I only want to weigh myself once a week, as I think doing it daily has been destructive and makes it hard to see the bigger picture.
I have a plan in place, and I just need to keep doing it, and I know I will get where I want to be.
My goal for the month of September is to lose 5-10 pounds. My ultimate goal is to lose 30-35 pounds overall, but it isn't a rush, I want to do it right so I don't have to do this again.

Hello, I'm Ava. In the last 3 months I've gained 15 pounds. I'm joining this challenge because I keep derailing myself by undereating which leads to overeating. Then correcting this by again undereating... and surprise, surprise I then overeat (way out of control and frightening). I've had enough of this. My brain is tired, my soul is tired.
I'd like the accountability challenge to help me get over that initial hurdle of discomfort and discipline. And to help me pace myself by eating the right amount of food. My goal is to lose 12 pounds, and to maintain that weight. I don't have a weight loss goal for the month of September. I'll just adhere to the UAC rules and accept what that gives me.
My overall goal with mfp is to find the real me - who has been hidden by battling the on/off, the up/down, and the yo-yo dieting. All of that all requires so much energy and attention, to the detriment of the rest of my life. I want to be rid of that feeling of defeat.9 -
Hi, I am Cherie, 55yr young/old depending on what I am asking my body to do. LOL I am on the flip side of anal cancer 5 yr N.E.D the treatment did a lot of damage . I started keto in January to help my body heal from it.. Bonus is fat melting off.. Best part is ketone energy.. wooop wooop
so since I was sedentary for so many years, I need to build muscle.. I have spent the summer playing in my gardens and with my horse.. I would like to focus on weights to build more muscle.. I will use this challenge to encourage and support lifting.
I am excited to see an active group that encourages daily interaction.. I am a sparks transplant.
I am looking forward to getting to know you all.
My motto - we get more of what we are focused on!
Let do this!
I can't believe it is the 24 of aug already.. wow4 -
Hi everyone! My name is Kim. I just achieved Level 38 this past Saturday... my birthday went ok...
My partner and I have 5 kids ranging from ages 5 to 18. Our youngest is starting kindergarten and our oldest is starting college in 2 weeks. We also have 3 Huskies!
I'm a psychologist by education and a professional counselor by license. I also have certifications in Addiction, nutrition, fitness, DNA based nutrition, and as a transformation coach. I work as an assistant manager in a youth shelter and oversee the mentoring program. I also have my own private practice less than part time.
I truly have no excuses that are valid as to why I'm stuck in my fatty rut... but here I am. I have about 100 lbs to lose... highest was about 125. My partner is a boxing trainer. Together we love food... and it's a struggle for us both... he just loses weight much faster and easier it appears lol.
I'm new to MFP and hope I can remember/ make time to check in daily. I need the accountability. Really... I need someone to call me out on my bulls$%!.
So here I am, I look forward to meeting everyone
Kim

Hi all, I love the idea of this accountability and fitness/wellness challenge. I am trying to lose 20 lbs then work on maintaining. I am so ready to do this but need some partnership and accountability. Plus this group looks like fun! I'm excited to get started on September 1st. Looking forward to checking in. Jilly7

Hi all! September will be my third month with the UAC. I like the group because it's aligned with my beliefs on what is required to be successful (calories in vs calories out).
I have lost around 75 pounds since starting on MFP and have 50 more to go. My husband is also on a similar journey and he's lost over 60. It's great having him on board.
I am 34 years old and this is the most weight I've ever lost at one time (since I started from the highest place I've ever been). My mentality on this is very healthy and I know this is my journey for life.
Being active on here and checking in keeps me on track. Welcome all!5 -
Hi I am Mary. I am a spark people transplant. I lost over 20 lbs and then covid hit and I have been stuck in the 160s. Really want to hit 150s again. Really 150. Exercise isn’t hard for me-it’s staying below calories and tracking dinner4

I am back for month 10. I can't believe it's been that long.
Welcome to those who are new. For me the tracking/eating isn't an issue. The exercise was but the UAC has helped me create my daily habit. The last time I missed a day of exercise was in May. That'a record for me ... at least for the last 30 years.5 -
Hi! I'm Shannon, just turned 48 in July.
I have two sons, 21 in college, and 18 a sailor in the US Navy.
So, it's just me and the dog, and we are both chunky! LOL Anyway, I put it best in my bio, I am the fat funny friend. I'm ready to just be the funny friend. I've been on My Fitness Pal for years, and I am down from my heaviest, but I really need some help and accountability to step up my game.
Heaviest: 379.9
CW: 356.6
Looking forward to meeting everyone!5 -
Good Morning. Joining Sept challenge because I enjoy this group so very much. I am bON from Austin Tx and come Oct will have maintained by weight since 2017 (4 years). I am mom to a fabulous horse and 4 ornery kitties. Still working full time and back in the office since mid Jun which has been a challenge but OOPs August has been WFH again. Not sure what Sept will bring. If I have learned anything it's that altho there are some basics to weight loss and maintenance, each of us has to find out way individually and what works for one might be a disaster for someone else. Sticking with it even thru failures is how we get to the prize.
Welcome to old and new alike. I always enjoy the intros and seem to learn more about everyone every month.3 -
Hi all. I restarted my weight loss/fitness quest on August 10th. I am an almost 63-year old happily married woman. Dealing with fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, neuropathy in my feet, aortic stenosis and deformed aortic valve (sigh), pre-diabetic, edema below the knees in both legs if I don't watch the salt! Being morbidly obese does not help any of these conditions. This Challenge helped keep me motivated 2 years ago. It really is encouraging to see the determination of the participants and cheering each other on.
Restarting exercise and being regular at it has always been difficult for me. But 20 minutes a day??? Yeah, I can do that!
Just a few more days 'til September. . . I can feel my butt clenching already!8 -
Hi. I'm Brisingr or Sarah. I'm 35 and have a 15 month old son. This is month 3 with UAC, but flaked out in August during a two week vacation so it probably doesn't really count. The challenge has really helped me get a handle on my snacking and has forced me to get more movement in my life, but I still struggle to make workouts part of a daily routine. It doesn't help that I don't particularly have a daily routine...
I have 30lbs to lose to get to healthy weight and would like to lose another 5 to 15 after that to get solidly into that healthy range, but will also see how I feel physically/mentally when I get there. I'm hoping to lose 5lbs in September.
I welcome new friends, but if you send me a request, please reference UAC since I generally don't accept blank friend requests.4 -
Hi, I’m Jill and new to this group. I’ve been off and on my fitness for 3 years. More off this last year. I’m 54, live in California, my son is going back to college on the east coast for his senior year. I manage my parents Heath care and home as they both have dementia. These last 3 years have taken a toll on me. I’ve gotten into meditation which helps. Now I need to work on all the weight I’ve gained over these 3 years. I have 25 pounds to loose. I’m hoping the idea of being accountable with others will keep me on track.
I’m excited to join the group!
Thanks

Hi, I'm Caroline and also new to this group. I've been doing MFP since February and working seriously on losing weight since 2019. I've been trying to lose ~45 pounds of "baby weight" from my almost 10 year old. I'm about halfway there - but probably more than halfway because maybe getting all the way back to my weight at age 31 when I am 41 is not totally realistic or necessary. I really fell down in July and August due to some health stuff and vacation and am trying to get back to it, so thought this extra accountability would help. Looking forward to getting to know all of you.5

Hi,
Welcome to all the newcomers and hello again to those of you I'm getting to know.
I'm back for my 4th month with UAC. Last month was rubbish, so this month I have to focus. Sigh. A week ago today I turned 63. I have about 30-35 pounds to go to reach my final goal. I do most of my real exercise on the weekends (bike and just starting to run some again... mind you, I use the word "run" loosely, as I walk/run and the run is at a relatively sloth-like pace). I live in Arizona and I'm looking forward to some cooler weather come about November or so. Ha! Meanwhile, I'll muddle through. It's been rainy here this past month or so. Much more than usual. I'm mom to three adults that make me proud every day. I'm "gamma" to two dogs and a cat. My job is sedentary, which suits my innate laziness, but doesn't do much for the rest of me. I've done well with tracking, but I don't do so well with exercise or calories. I think my goal this month will be trying to get my calorie intake under control again.

Hi I'm Babs. I joined this challenge for a couple months back in 2019 and decided to join again for a little more accountability. I'm trying to get back into the habit of logging my food more consistently as a way to re-lose 5 lbs.
A little about me:
I'm 61 years old and stand 5'3". My highest non-pregnancy weight was 175 lbs which was 20+ years ago. My lowest weight after that was 125 (for like one day!) but I found under 130 lbs wasn't sustainable for me. This year my weight has been on average about 138 lbs and I'd like to get back down to around 133.
I've been married for 34 years, we have 2 sons ages 27 and 30.
I've been a runner since I was 47 years old.
I post daily to another group on MFP--the 10 Cent Healthy Habits group.
I had breast cancer when I was 39 years old so have been a survivor 22 years now!3 -
Hi Everyone!
My name is Julie. I am Canadian, and my husband and I live in the province of Saskatchewan (the prairies). I am quite new to MFP and this will be my second month in a UAC. I found that the August challenge really helped me to start a healthier routine, learn what works for me, and am looking forward to keeping myself on track while being inspired by everyone here. I enjoy giving support to others and I greatly appreciate the support shown to me.
I have been very successful in the past in losing weight (on WW and lost 90 pounds after completing my second masters degree), but never “mastered” the concept of maintenance, or really accepted that this is for life. I do now and have that 90 pounds plus some more that I picked up along the way. I am already 18 pounds down as of my last weigh in.
I weigh in once a month and that works best for me. I do have access to a nutritionist through my doctor’s clinic — and it was her who suggested MFP! I have complex medical issues related to severe rheumatoid arthritis and Sjogren’s Syndrome. The immune suppression drug regime is a bit brutal at times and has been terrifying during COVID. I know my physical (and mental health) are better when I am active and lead a healthy lifestyle. I am a recovering workaholic and doing my best to make myself a priority after a very long period of neglect. So this challenge is, literally, just what the doctor ordered!
Looking forward to seeing all of you on the September Challenge!

Welcome to all new members!
My name is Elsien, I am originally Dutch, but have lived most of my adult life in UK, as well as in a few other places round the world. I now live in Montpellier, in southern France, where I intend to stay! I've been doing MFP and UAC for a while now, but life has a way of throwing me off track, so I am now back at a point where I am almost at my heaviest and desperately need to lose some 20 kilos. I have a dodgy knee, after a car crash 20-odd years ago, and it doesn't like to carry this extra weight.
My personal life can be very stressful, so the support from fellow UAC members is invaluable!

I’m Amy, I’ll be 50 next month and have been attempting to lose the same 30 pounds for the last 2 years. UAC helps me to be mindful of calories! I’m not very active, this reminds me to move.
My kids keep me running. We are very busy with their activities. As school begins, I will try to stay focused on eating correctly even on the go.
Good luck to all of you. We will achieve together!6 -
This will be my ninth month of the UAC. Good luck to everyone!1
-
I joined over a week ago but didn't introduce myself 😬 It's nice to see regulars and new UACers too!
As a bilingual Canadian, this month marks my first full month of maintenance.
Goals:
* Maintain my body fat in the low 20% range (or high teens)
* Stretch 3x weekly
* Either slide board or jump rope 3x weekly
* Working on mobility improvements (bonus)
Plan:
SEP Exercise: https://www.christinacarlyle.com/back-workout-women
SEP Nutrition: Hit my protein macro (40%) at least twice a week. Keep fat macro between 25%-29% for the month's average. Hit 35g of fiber daily.2 -
no more kettleballs @MaltedTea ?1

LazyBlondeChef wrote: »no more kettleballs @MaltedTea ?
lol thanks for asking but, no, not after 10,000 kettlebell swings 😉 My back needed some rehab focus ➡️ hence this month's program choice.
But I'll ring the New Year in with another 10,000 swings (I run that program/workout every 5 months)!

kettlebells! While I was on the treadmill this morning it all of a sudden came to me I had written kettleballs.1
