Warm morning started with a T-storm.
Bagged a bunch of omelettes, oatmeal mixtures and pancake recipes yesterday, and got my grocery shopping done for the camping trip. Today will make some dinners -- Tex-Mex chicken, Moroccan stew, pistou soup. Looking forward to camping. Get to see DD's new Maine house where they plan to move after kids graduate. It's on a point near a beach and lighthouse; she says few mosquitoes there...we'll see.
DB says he feels better after quitting daily grapefruit which he discovered interacts with his blood thinner.
Have a great Saturday and long weekend.0 -
Mornin' gents.
Mike, your pre planned camping meals always impress me. Takes me back to camping as a Boy Scout and Scout leader. Seems grapefruit interferes with a lot a meds, especially the statins. Personally, I seem to benefit from a grapefruit in the morning. Refreshing, although it sometimes stimulates an afternoon colonic contraction.
Did the doc order you up some bloodwork, Steve?
Raining off and on here today. Muggy too.
I agree with Sam on at least hitting the ribs with salt the night before. I usually do the whole rub ingredients the night before and will add a little more before starting the smoke.
Might hit the salt again tomorrow am. Means leaving the house at 2 am

Good morning!
I slept in this morning until 7:30, which for me is late. I am usually up at 5:00 or earlier.
I had a good Dr. visit yesterday. He spent over 1/2 hour with me, and we went over several things. He added Wellbutrin to my meds. He thinks this will perk me up some. He did order a panel of blood tests. I need to take them fasting, so I didn't take them yesterday. I really like this new doctor. He also froze a wart that I have on my ear. He did that last time, but it didn't all go away. He said if it does not all go away this time, he will have to cut it out, as he thinks it could be precancerous.
We had some good rain last night.
Frankie really hates the fireworks. She refuses to go outside to pee. Last year I drove her to a neighboring county to pee/poop. We don't know what to do for her.
Happy birthday to Sassie! Also Dave, the painting is awesome!
Mike, I hope that you have a fantastic camping trip.
Have a great day!0 -
Good morning gentlemen.
Mike's meal planning for camping trips is impressive. He and Rita would get along well. I'd just throw in some ramen and a bunch of cans and call it good.
Cloudy and cool all day, today. Chance of showers tomorrow. We're looking at 71 today, 65 tomorrow. Kind of gloomy for a holiday weekend.
Cooking ribs on a charcoal grill, like a Weber, is a far different proposition than on a smoker with temperature control. I'd say a real key is choosing the ribs. Baby back ribs have less fat and connective tissue and can't take as long a time as St. Louis cut ribs. In my smoker, I have found ribs like a higher heat than, say brisket. I do brisket at 230 degrees, St. Louis ribs at 260. While we each have our own theories, I think the great thing about ribs is that they are hard to screw up.

Good Morning,
I seen some ribs that were really screwed up to me, friend smokes his then wraps in foil and continues cooking, when opening foil he has strew with bones totally clean; I prefer a little chew,
Deer had a feast on my beans last night, only left stems, then started on okra
low 90's today and most of next week with high humidity
Blood pressure still too low 90/540 -
LOL, I call those crock pot ribs, Sam. These are beef short ribs but same idea.

So glad you are liking this Doc, Steve. He sounds like a real practitioner.
Before I had the pellet smoker (love it) that has really good temperature control, I would smoke on my old charcoal smoker (adding wood chunks for smoke) or pit smoker (wood) or weber grill (charcoal+wood) I would just try and keep it 175-250 until I started to see the meat pull away from the bone, total time would be 5-8 hours depending on outdoor temps and windiness. Wrapping in foil (Texas Crutch) mid way helps speed up the process but does tend to soften the bark so the additional hour unwrapped firms up that bark.0 -
Good Morning
I was up early to watch Wimbledon, which is one of my great joys. Great matches so far on the women side. Thank you for the input on the ribs. I won't be smoking them. I will rub them down the night before and again before they go on. I will use the snake method to keep the heat lower. I believe mine are St Louis cut. I will be starting them earlier than planned. My energy levels have been low. I think it is a result of lack of consistent cardio work.
Steve, glad the Drs visit was helpful. It sounds like he wants to make sure he has considered all the likely possibilities.0
