Rise and shine. I need my coffee--woke at 4 and that was it for the night, apparently.

Dave, I really hope the old hip is okay. We want you to keep hiking those beautiful mountains and forests.

I drove late yesterday afternoon to check out the Millers River, which is running nicely. Getting cold, but it would be nice to do a river trip before it all freezes up. It runs through 6 or 7 miles of wilderness area and is runnable the whole way, except a fallen tree here and there.

    Have a good one.

    Good morning!

We had over an inch of wet heavy snow last night. At least the pavement is just wet. It is 31.5 degrees this morning, so I am hoping that my commute will be OK.

Connie spent 6 hours at urgent care yesterday because she could not get a doctor appointment. They say that it is non-covid bacterial. Her left lung is very congested. The prescribed some pills for her to take.

It is hard to type with a cat on your lap. She keeps reaching for my arm.

I'm curious, Mike. Do you have to portage much? Is it difficult to manage your canoe by yourself?

    Have a great day!

I will be paddling tandem with a friend. We take two cars, leaving one at the takeout, and afterwards drive back to get the other car. There’s some portaging on the Millers. We land, carry our stuff around the logjams maybe 50’ or so and go back to carry the canoe together. This river has two or three of those.

When I paddle alone I avoid portage situations if I can, but I manage just fine paddling by myself usually. Rapids (moderate) and a little wind are okay. A lot of wind is sometimes doable but I have to kneel up near the center thwart and keep paddling hard to maintain control. It gets tiring pretty quickly.

I hope Connie gets feeling better soon.

    Good Morning

I ended up needing Tramadol yesterday all day but managed to get some things done irregardless. I was wide awake at 2:30am and finally got up. This is an occasional side effect that makes no sense to me, but life goes on anyway. My evening brain MRI is rescheduled to 8:00 today, so at least I don’t have to worry about oversleeping. Otherwise, my ESL student had to cancel due to a sick child so it will be an exciting day of finances and cleaning, at least that is the plan. I hope to knock out a batch of Morning Glory Muffins which I put off from yesterday. I might try another walk and see if the pain levels stay down so I can get that going again.

    Good morning gentlemen.

    Enjoy the river, Mike.

Box is in the mail, Steve.

I have an early appointment at the VA, to have an alteration made to my hearing aids that is supposed to make them stay in my ears more securely. It's a drive-up appointment; I don't get out of the car. We'll see how that goes. I have an appointment tomorrow afternoon to discuss my hip.

Interesting Steve about Connie. Both my wife and I had heavy duty colds with one day of fever. Tested negative 4 times for covid. Seemed close to being at least bronchitis but our x-rays were not that bad. It took I think about 10 days to completely recover as I recall.

Good luck Dave with fixing your hearing aids thru a car window. Originally I had the additional security keeper (my words) which was an attached piece of "fishing line" that was attached to the hearing aid and curled up inside the ear. Worked pretty well in keeping them from falling out much below the ear. Eventually I got rid of them and am pretty careful using my hearing aids.

Stay warm and good luck with pain gents.
