Forgot to post yesterday, and Friday I was up and out at dawn to go canoeing and didn't get home till dark. Survived the canoe adventure, although almost tipped over in an unexpected rapid a mile into the trip. Will stop and get out to scout those before running through in the future. Weather was sunny but chilly (33º by the end) and windy some of the time. Numerous fallen trees to contend with, buddy Dave used his bow saw leaning over from his seat in the bow a few times, so we only had to portage once. Passed King Phillip's Rock--a giant boulder-- a native meeting place back in the 1600's.
I don't have a hearing aid yet, but probably will some day. Holy Cross won again yesterday, undefeated season. They'll be in the NCAA playoffs in a few weeks. DGS didn't play, got a concussion last week and is laying low for awhile.
Praying for folks with aches, pains, moans, groans and illnesses. Church this morning, then odds and ends, maybe the Patriots game. Definitely get in a walk. Tomorrow I pick up DD#3 at the airport in Boston. She has 24 hours in the air plus two layovers of 7 and 3 hours. Already drama between DD#1 and EX about which house she's staying in. I might go camping again for a few weeks.0 -
Mornin' gents.
Same here with no posting yesterday.
You must be excited to see DD#3 in spite of the drama, Mike.
I get to judge a private interclub hunting dog trial today at a local hunt club. Maybe 15 dogs, a mix of pointers and flushers and likely some dogs of dubious breeding. One dog running will be a pup out of my dog Babe (elite breeding). The owner and I will likely keep that under our hats (wink-wink).
The unfortunate consequence means I will be standing in the cold (low thirties) and wind for about 3 hours midday. I will be breaking out the 4.0 under armor long johns.
Glad we don't live in Buffalo.
Starting the thawing process for the turkey breast and brisket today. Am putting them in a cooler to slowly defrost over two days. I'll put a thermometer in the cooler to make sure the temperature doesn't get above 45 degrees during the process.
13K steps yesterday and I was pretty pooped with achy legs and feet. I would like to be able to hit 20K without feeling exhausted and sore. I can understand how folks with my symptoms lose motivation to do anything. Thankfully, I have been trained by sports and the Army how to push myself. How many times have I heard, "if it doesn't kill you, it will make you stronger" ? Yes Drill Sargent! LOL, those basic training experiences are deeply ingrained. Then there are people like my DW, that never played sports and never got military training, but just don't have any give up in their psyche. Her mantra is "if you aren't bleeding from the eyes, you go to work". She is definitely tougher than me.
Be OP ;-)

Good morning!
I too didn't sign in yesterday. I am afraid that I have what Connie has been fighting for two weeks. I can't miss work, at least on Tuesday, because I have to do payroll. I'm not bleeding from the eyes, so I will make it in to work.
It is hard to type with a cat on your lap. One of you guys have said that before.
Mike, I'm happy that you get to see DD#3. Perhaps the drama will die down as she gets home. It sounds like you had an adventure with your canoe. Awesome!
Not much going on here. I hope to get a lot of rest. I do have some chores to get done.
My small 8.6 pound frozen turkey breast goes into the fridge tomorrow morning. I still don't know if it will be baked in the oven or smoked on the traeger. If it is too cold outside, even with the grill blanket, it just won't be very good. It is 12 degrees out this morning.
Have a great day!

Good morning gentlemen.
You don't have hearing aids, Mike, but Bob does, and electronic devises in my ears do nothing for my aging memory (or was it Bill?).
Never got lights hung, yesterday. They say it got to 41 degrees, officially, but the frost never thawed in our yard, and I wimped out. I did spend in the shop, turning a small Christmas tree and finish turning a holly bowl that I plan to carve a pattern on.
Church this morning, followed by monthly meeting of church elders.0 -
Haha. I have some short term memory issues, now "what was I saying?" It is 26 degrees with some colder spots in our neighborhood this a.m. Frosty bike ride indeed. The Oregon Ducks played a great game with an all-star albeit banged up QB. Truly an amazing performance.
Cold weather doesn't help aches and pains for sure. I raked leaves a bit for our communal walk-thru path. Today will blow leaves onto grass and mow them in.
Stay warm and comfy all.0 -
Good Morning
No hearing aids here Mike. I have Tinnitus which afforded me a couple hearing tests which tell me my ears are fine except for the constant background noise. If they would help my memory I would likely be first in line though!
Not much happened yesterday. Heather had a tough night so I sat with her most of the day. Thanks to Lee's comments I checked my defrosting Turkey in the fridge. It is good to go into the buttermilk brine tomorrow for which I will need to further rearrange the fridge. In a few hours I will drop off another frozen turkey for the big Turkey Drop collection a local shelter is doing to try and feed 1500 families. It is a joint effort with the Shelter & the Fire Department. I love it. Then it will be time to risk my back which is feeling fairly normal and, with my son, finally take down the Microwave over the stove many years after its death and install the new vent hood. Easy enough except for managing the weight without destroying my back. On one of the videos the guy explains about this as he holds it up sit one hand. removes the bolts, lets it roll into one of his arms and whips up on his shoulder to cart off. I snarled at him and advised my son our process might be a bit different.0
