Smoked bacon wrapped whole quail and roasted a turkey breast for myself and DW yesterday. We were planning on DS#2 but he couldn't make it.
In spite of all we have to be thankful for, it was a bit of a somber event. Earlier this week, my 52 year old nephew was found dead in his Florida home from an OD involving fentanyl. DSister is numb, but this was an event she/we was fearing. He had been in and out of rehab for years.
Hope all had a nice holiday.

    Be OP ;-)

Oh Lee, what tragic news... so sorry. God rest his poor soul.

We had a nice (and raucous) holiday yesterday at DD's. 27 family (many of them wee ones), two dogs, plus a few friends of the teens. DGS and his friend played piano and violin for us, while Brazilian SIL watched World Cup on TV and family chaos prevailed in general. Beforehand, some of us went to DGS's last HS football game. He won the Offensive MVP trophy. The announcer described him as "the human bowling ball" after he repeatedly carried the ball forward so many times. A good day, although I had two pieces of pie at the end of a hearty dinner.

DS #2 is swimming with a group at a local beach this morning. Brrrr... I will shovel through some of the clutter here and glue together the parts of my replacement canoe gunwale which came in Wednesday. I don't do Black Friday, never have.

    Good morning gentlemen.

I'm sorry for your loss, Lee. Even when such a thing is non unexpected, it is shocking and sad.

Our Thanksgiving was wonderful. DDIL decided all the cooking was too much, so she bought a smoked turkey and a carton of mashed potatoes from Costco. DS baked great dinner rolls. DDIL sauteed green beans. DDIL's parents brought two pies. I brought vegan stuffing (came out very good) and corn pudding (which also turned out very well), And we all brought a lot of love and caring to the evening. When we got home, DW gave Sassy some smoked turkey breast, so she shared in the feast, too.

Looking forward to a quiet day, today. I hope to get into the shop. I will try to convince Rita to not start Christmas shopping for the grandkids until Monday.

    Good Morning

Lee, I am saddened to hear of your nephews passing. I will offer prayers of comfort in her grief for your dear Sister. There are no words that are adequate.

Our small gathering went well. The bird cooked faster than planned and I dropped a few things from the menu. I don't know if I will try a full scale Thanksgiving meal again. It seems a bit wasteful and I am not up to the physicality of it which is a problem when I don't allow people in my kitchen. I ended the day in quite a bit of pain and partook of the extra meds I have. It continues today, so its time to adjust my sails a bit, I think.

    Good afternoon!

Lee, I am so sorry for your loss. I will hold you, your sister, and your family in prayer.

Connie and I had a nice and quiet Thanksgiving at home. It was restful and nice.

This morning, we got up at crack o' dawn (at least for Connie) and drove up to Loess Bluffs National Wildlife preserve. It is in Missouri about 100 miles north of us. We got there just at sunrise. it was beautiful. We saw 10s of thousands of ducks and geese. We saw at least 50 bald eagles. I only took 285 pictures. I have not sorted through them yet. We both noted how this little trip refreshes our souls. We were home by 11:30. The attached sort of conveys the size of the flocks we saw. We saw all of the geese before they left for area fields to eat.

Have a great rest of your day!
