WELCOME to all walkers!

May is now here, and it is time to start a another new monthly challenge!

Surely beautiful flowers and springtime weather are finally here for many of us. This can help make it the perfect time of the year to venture outdoors for some some outdoor walks in the park, or even hiking on a nearby trail, or perhaps a quiet walk in your neighborhood!

This group is open to any and all walkers. Many of us use Leslie Sansone's Walk At Home method using DVDs or by streaming, as well as various other kinds of workouts. Indoor choices might be the treadmill, other walking instructors, or strength 🏋️‍♀️or yoga 🧘‍♀️sessions.

There are many walks or workouts that can count toward steps, miles, or minutes, however you keep track of your active moments. Come on in and join us!

The goal that you choose is your own personal goal for this month, so If you find this group any time during the month it doesn't matter which day of the month that you join in. Just set your goals to reflect what you plan to accomplish during the remaining days of this month. It is never too late to join in because you are always welcome!

And now... let us lace up those shoes 👟and hiking boots🥾, and get our water... and we will begin to walk 🚶‍♀️and workout 🏋️‍♀️during May of 2023!

74.9 miles in April? Really???? How sad is that! NOT 75 miles-nope 74.9!!! Well, I am over it and this 1 pound a month weight loss as well! Tracking alone does not remove pounds! :grumble: All 4 of my grandchildren will be here in July (they range in age from 20-4) and they will want Grandma to hike mountains with them, so I need to get into mountain climbing shape! 🥾

Goal for May: 3 miles per day minimum on Garmin or 93 miles for the month of May AND 2 strength days per week, one with a walking DVD and and one day with Leslie's Walk It Off in 30 30 minute strength routine.

Ready, Set GO (cold and rainy) May in the 🏔!!!

The weather system pushing its way through MI right now is something else. While we've had rain and wind, off and on today the U.P. got literal measurable SNOW! Like 1 spot reported 27". I feel lucky with the wind and rain. It, however, brought a heck of a headache that Tylenol and Advil haven't touched yet. I was in halk of my jammies by 5:30. lol

    Thanks for the song @zichab

@texasgardnr Look forward to having you pop in again. I saw your late post on the April board. 😁

@zichab, 🫣oh, NO... where is that last tenth of the mile last month???? Well, we know that you will show that "Garmin" a thing or two about how to count those miles in May! Preparing for the grandkids visit is a great incentive to get it done!! And using the Walk It Off in 30, 30 minute strength routine will get you hiking 🥾the mountains with them.

@Deeder522, Have a wonderful Birthday Month... celebrate as much as possible while closing all those rings 6x in May! You can definitely do it!!!

I'm sorry about those weather headaches 🤕. I totally understand how awful they can be as I also get them :grumble:. Good excuse though to get back into the PJs!

My daily log definitely looks like I need to get a life , or perhaps a more exciting workout life 🚶‍♀️🏋️‍♀️😯 for starters, but... I purposefully did something each day that was harder, and avoided the "lighter" day notation for this week!

    May 1-Garmin tracked 3.0 miles=3.0 miles total
    May 2-Garmin tracked 1.4 miles=4.4 miles total
    May 3-Garmin tracked 1.5 miles=5.9 miles total
    May 4-Garmin tracked 3.0 miles=8.9 miles total
    May 5-Garmin tracked 1.9 miles=10.8 miles total
    May 6-Garmin tracked 1.4 miles=12.2 miles total

Well, this week was a bust on the workout front, but I lost 2.2pounds! All I can think of is that I am doing more strength workouts than I think as I have had to help my DH all week. We are finishing the flooring, priming and painting the new sheet rock, moving furniture into place and heaven knows CLEANING it! Remodeling makes a mess of everything!!! I have been busy every day and next week I will be spending a lot of time shelving all of our books. We moved 27 book boxes ( I counted them yesterday LOL) that I need to unpack and get on the new shelves, in addition to the 3 book cases of books that were already here. When there are 3 Professors in a family, there are a lot of books!!! :noway: So, I guess I am not adding up the miles, but am working off the pounds!

@Deeder522 I heard about the snow storms in the UP because they were predicted to come our way as well, but they tracked further south. We ended up getting a rain snow mix, but nothing stuck thank goodness!!! I love and early spring snow dusting, but 27 inches is my wish for October! I was thinking about you and wondering if you got any of it. I hate those weather headaches as they are so darn hard to get rid of.

@texasgardnr LOL I think we all need to "get a life" when we are retired, but somehow, the days just fly by!!! Some days, when I look at my "To Do" list, I wonder how I did all this and held down a full time job as well!!!! It seems every day there is more to do than there are hours in the day, and I have not even started picking up the falling tree limbs on our property yet! Meh, as long as we wake up every day and do something productive, we are doing OK! How are you feeling by the way?

Off to do more cleaning and book organization!

A slow start to my watch challenge but the weather has turned to friendlier temps again, 70's in the forecast for the week.
I also need to refocus on my diet and better manage my stress. Stress eating is very simple when McD's is 3 miles from the house and you pass it nearly daily. 😣 Does anyone else have certain foods they just don't like homemade? For me burgers and salads.

@Deeder522, I loved making salads back when there were a lot more of us in the home to eat them. Now with the large variety of bagged salads available, I find myself definitely liking them more than making them. It is also so easy to add an item or two like tomatoes, for example, if I want to. Our store has what is called the salad base and we add the dressing, and whatever else suits our fancy. Surprisingly, salads have moved into that category for both us now.

@zichab, I enjoyed your comment "...as long as we wake up every day and do something productive, we are doing OK!" it made me laugh, because it is so true!!

The weather has turned in our favor. No rain in the forecast until Saturday. Hopefully, this will mean a few more walks outside.
Mother's Day was cloudy and a bit cold here. So we skipped the Meijer Gardens and stayed relaxed most of the day. My son brought me some dairy-free dark chocolate caramels, and a mini orchid, and ordered dinner to be delivered. My husband just spent time with me and let me have full control over the TV. 😉 A rather lovely day in my books.
I hope you each had a good Mother's Day in your own way.

@zichab, I hope that all is well with you. I imagine that you are still very busy with the remodeling and all that is involving, including the cleaning up during/ after all of it. Did you get all of those 27 boxes of books (plus the books already there) shelved yet? All of that counts as many miles of moving about, as well as hours of workouts, I would imagine. I do hope that all is well with you 💖. You do have a lot to accomplish before the grand kids come in July. Hope to see you some here in June.

@Deeder522, Thanks for holding the fort down the second half of the month 💐 Well done!! You Tracked 80 / 80 Miles!! And also closed all of the Apple Challenge rings this month!! Good for you!!

I think that I took the rain ☔⛈️ from you. We have had more rain this month than I have seen for quite a while. It was a blessing indeed as we live in a "semi arid" area.

The last number of years have been mostly the 'arid' part, with some serious drought at times, but finally the second half of this month we are getting some of the 'semi' part with quite a bit of rain, and of course the thunder/ lightening. Which I love to see because then the Silverado (purple) and the Autumn (red) sage always burst into bloom (these are the more dramatic ones). We also have several other smaller white, pink/white (lipstick sage) bushes in the back fence garden that perk up also on a smaller scale.
