Good morning!
Frankie got me up at 4:15. She didn't want to go out for her pre-bed outing last night due to illegal fireworks. We are at THAT time of year again. She just shakes at the fireworks. I tried to go back to bed, but after rolling around for 20 minutes, I got back up.
I'm glad that you had a great trip, Mike. Sounds fun!
Bill, I hope that you and Heather had a great time at the fair.
We are expecting rain this morning. We've had a lot of rain, but really, we could use some now.
I made the first BLT of the season last night. Awesome! Usually, I "nuke" the bacon in the microwave. There is always a lingering smell in the house after that. I had the brilliant idea of cooking the bacon in a large cast iron skillet on the Traeger. Wow! That was one of my best ideas in a very long time! The bacon was amazing. Cleanup was surprisingly easy as well.
Have a great day!

Mornin' gents.
Dropped M off at Newark for her flight to Frankfurt yesterday afternoon. She was originally supposed to depart for Frankfurt around 6 PM. Storms prevented her plane from coming into Newark so she had to scramble for another transatlantic flight a bit later to Munich, then another flight to Frankfurt, then a high speed train to Ansbach, her final destination. She is exhausted.
Super jealous about your BLT. My tomatoes are at least 2 weeks from harvesting.
I smoke bacon on a wire cookie cooling rack with a pan underneath to catch drippings on my pellet smoker. I usually have to spin the tray around 180 degrees halfway through the cook. Usually about an 30 minutes at 275 degrees.
I experienced the same problem even on the higher rack in my pellet smoker, but a stone solved the issue. Although, I hear the steels are the newest and bestest.
I imagine we will gets lots of calls for medication refills for fireworks phobias these next couple of days.
So unfortunate that Frankie is so sensitive. Sounds like you have found a technique manage the problem that works for you, Steve.
Welcome back, Mike.
I didn't get home until 7:30 last night after driving from Newark to a breeder friend in Millbrook NY that had my younger dog in heat who is being a bit reluctant to breed, back to the clinic to do some vaginal swab cytology and pull/spin a blood sample, drive to Oxford CT to drop off serum sample for progesterone testing, and then finally home. Yeesh. Turns out I will probably drive dog back to Millbrook tonight. Double yeesh.
I may have eaten an 18pt cookie and a 16 pt bag of pop corners during my travels. Had a piece of salmon and half a zucchini for dinner and then some grapes for dessert.
A bit salt swollen from the chips today.
Onward and downward ;-)

Good morning gentlemen.
We don’t get nearly as much fireworks around here as we used to. They are illegal in all the nearby municipalities, but ok in the county. There will be plenty on the 4th, but Sassy seems mostly curious about what is going on, rather than frightened. Sorry about Frankie.
Today is Sassy’s third birthday. Planned to take her to the beach to run in the surf and chase seagulls. It’s cool and pretty windy over there today, so we might pass. Sassy won’t know the difference.
I only cook bacon when the grandkids are here. Just fry it in a big skillet on the stove. I do save the grease in a jar in the fridge.0 -
Good Morning,
Pablo has had his morning walk, my clothes were soaked very high humidity and upper 70's
Skipping ROMEO's this morning,
My tomatoes are slow coming this year, okra has begun to bloom and have had two pickings of green beans. DD pulled all my larger peppers but by end of week more will be ready. Part of gardening problems is orthopedic told me in front of DW to stay out of garden.
Pablo does not mind fireworks but gets nervous with thunderstorms, provided we are nearby he is fine.
Glad you had a good trip Mike and got to spend time with DGS's DS and DD.
Three weeks of bachelorhood for Lee, get some rest in the world should not stop; also when one is rested and not rushed they tend to eat better.
Bill, hope you did not overdo it at fair.0 -
Morning. Off to CPAP fitting. Will be unpacking and laundering today.
Fresh garden tomatoes are the best. I miss my garden, just a few flowers on the balcony.
Lee, good luck with the shy mother-to-be, and relax while DW is in Deutschland.

Good Morning
Happy Birthday Sassy!
Happy Canada Day. I will be making some butter tarts later today to celebrate. We had a good time at the fair yesterday. Not a breeze to be found but at least it wasn't the triple digits coming our way in a couple days. We took our time and spent quite a bit of time at the horse races sitting in the shade. I did ok. 2 wins and 2 shows. I didn't bother placing any bets unfortunately. I did ok food wise for fair food. We always end our day at the fair with some funnel cake from the same place. Stomach held up fairly well, the back need some TLC but recovered fairly nicely. After 5+ hours in the heat we were done in and headed home happy. Next year we will continue at the Lane County Fair. Plumber comes today to replace the laundry valves. After 4 days, the wayward handyman decided to return my calls/texts at 9:00 last night. I let it go to voicemail and he didn't leave one.1
