What a wonderful month October is! Now fall has begun in earnest!
Here in the Northern Hemisphere, October is a month of harvest. Just like the farmers who have been working in the fields, we’ve been working on creating habits that support healthy living.

This month let’s share our Harvest of healthy habits.

I’d like to do something a bit different this month. (I totally stole the idea from Inktober). Let’s share a habit success each day of the month! Maybe you took a walk or resisted an irresistibly tempting dessert, please share that success.

Are you working on a new habit or continuing to hone an established one? Share those successes!

Try setting up a new habit using this loop!
Cue:
Seedling Habit:
Reward:

Or
Try framing your goals along these lines:

1. My goal for this month (This October I will...)
2. The small, actionable steps I plan to take towards this goal
3. My reminder or cue to keep up with my habit
5. My reward for maintaining the habit (anything from a self-compliment to a mark on the calendar)
6. How can we support you?
7. What will success look like at the end of October?

    1. My goal for October
I will plan my meals better and cook big pot things regularly, like soup, stew, casseroles, etc.
I will also continue with the habits I'm currently building: log food and drink every day, stay in calorie deficit, walk more, avoid sweets, drink plenty water and tea.
    2. The small, actionable steps I plan to take towards this goal.
I will regularly check what food we have and make a list of ingredients to buy.
I will continue to log in the apps and use my paper version for an overall visual of how I'm doing.
    3. My reminder or cue to keep up with my habit.
I will set a task reminder on Google calender app.
    4. My reward for maintaining the habit.
I will meditate or listen to 8D music.
    5. How can we support you?
Just a like on my comment will be enough.
    6. What will success look like at the end of October?
I will have enjoyed lots of nutritious food and will feel fitter and lighter.

@BodyTalking , I love the idea of big pots of soup and stew.

I like the weigh less at the end of the month idea @TerriRichardson112 , maybe I’ll start doing that myself.

Another habit I started in this group was journaling. I started by making it a tiny habit, only requiring one word. I switched over to an online journaling app, although I think a handwritten journal would be better, but I needed to make it easy. One nice thing about the online version is that I can add photos from my phone.

Here’s the calendar of my journal

The calendar is a great idea @77tes I used to try to take one photo everyday just to force myself to get out for a walk. I didn't manage to stick at it. This looks like a better way than what I was doing. Is the app called Journal?

    I missed your mistake @TerriRichardson112

@BodyTalking My journal app is Day One. The free version allows one photo, but my daughter gave me the premium version which allows lots of photos, so when I go out for a walk I look for flowers or something else beautiful. It’s a bit of my gratitude journaling.

    I didn’t catch a mistake in the post @TerriRichardson112

Here’s a habit I’ve been working on - putting the miles on my spin bike. When it hits 1000 miles, it starts over.

It started over not long after the first of the year. So I’ve biked the distance to and from my sister’s house in Arizona this year. 😮

Nice tracking of your goals @BodyTalking !

Here’s another heathy habit I’ve been working on. Every day I spend a little time studying French on Duolingo. It’s good to challenge my monolingual brain.

    @BodyTalking , that’s cool that you’re studying Czech!

@snowshoe072 , I love my spin bike! It’s a great way to push myself or to squeeze in a workout.

I just ordered a workout device. I’ve been reading about how good rebounding is, so I bought a mini trampoline. I really don’t have room in my tiny house, but I just went for it. (Look for rebounding as my November goal).

I’m continuing my meditation habit. Today I extended my streak to 39 days.

@77tes i have had my spin bike for at least 8 years and still in great shape my son has a peloton but I struggle with my feet in the pedals! I can’t get my shoe off the pedal so I have take my shoes off on the bike and then manually remove my shoes 😂😂
I don’t think I could rebound with my knees but I do row my hallway looks like a mini gym thank god there is another way through the house so it’s all good.

@snowshoe072 , walking at lunchtime is a great plan.

@TerriRichardson112 , good job sticking with the meditation.

One of the habits I adopted when I set out to get more active was dancing. Here’s a photo of the email printout from my first attempt at English Country Dancing. 16 years later, I called a whole evening of dancing with 4 new/complex dances for the upcoming ball. 8b5n1kjjy56x.jpeg

Working hard at my good food choices yesterday’s exercise was finishing the paint trim in the dining room so I guess up and down the ladder counts😂

My sticky note is working well for me with my goals it sits in my journal or the current book I am reading.
Maybe a walk or spin today it’s hunting season here in NY so one needs to be mindful where you walk
