Okay @$$ movers, here's the new thread for the DECEMBER 2024 Move Your @$$ Challenge!
PLEASE READ the directions below.
We welcome all newbies and welcome back to the oldies!
"Rules of the Challenge"
1. Set your goal and post it to the thread....distance ONLY (Miles or KMs) - NO minutes, NO # of workouts, NO # of calories, NO # of steps - DISTANCE ONLY.
2. Make your ticker if you want to use one (see directions below or in the FAQ thread) or add your goal to the thread.
3. Get moving your @$$ starting on the first day of the month.
4. Post as often as you can to the thread so we can keep the sheet (see link below) up to date. You are welcome to report what you are moving each time BUT please make sure you post the TOTAL miles (or kms) moved each time you update.
Please don't post any previous month's miles here. We will continue updating the previous month's spreadsheet using the old thread for approximately the first 5 or so days of the new and current month. Please add only your current month's goals/miles to this thread. Got it?
The purpose is to set a distance goal (KM or Miles) and track your distance for the month - please only do one or the other...if you are doing KM just report in KM - we have a formula in the spreadsheet that will convert it to miles for us.
You are challenging yourself, not competing against anyone else.....the distance can be on a treadmill, stairmaster, elliptical, bike, roller blades, walking, running, biking, hiking, swimming (if you can measure).....just set a distance goal and do the work.
Report to the thread often to keep us updated because we track our info on a spreadsheet (see link below) so you can see how you are doing compared to the group but not to openly compete with them. Whatever goes on inside your own brain is your own business.
The idea is to set your goal and reach it before the end of the month.
Welcome to all - new and old.....have a great month challenging yourself!
Link to the Google spreadsheet where you can view (but not edit). The Challenge Admins will update it for you at mostly random times.....but typically a day or so. Don't hold us too tightly to that though.

Directions for making a ticker:
Go to either www.tickerfactory.com and create a Fitness ticker. Then copy the "BB code" and paste it into your posts on this thread each time you do an update. (More detailed info is located in the FAQ thread on the MYAC Group page.)
Welcome and we hope you enjoy your stay and that you find this helpful in realizing your fitness goals!

I'm going to up my goal to 100 miles for this month. My recumbent stationary bike finally gave up the ghost and I replaced it with just about the same thing. I'm excited to start using it knowing that it won't randomly slip and then grab anymore!
Good luck, everyone!

Part of the joy of living to my current age of 62 is that I got to have my second colonoscopy this morning. They didn't spot any polyps so that is great news. Now I'm good for another 10 years. I had a great ride on my new stationary bike yesterday before I had to do my prep for today's procedure. They suggested that I take a rest day from it today and while I feel like I could probably manage doing it just fine, I might just listen to them this time.

Did another ride today to a video somewhere in Arizona maybe? It was 6.6 miles with two slightly faster 6-minute intervals thrown in. I really liked this trainer. She was very motivating without screaming "RAH! RAH!" sorts of rants. She was gentle and kind, yet still very motivating. She absolutely inspired me to do more than I would have if I were riding on my own. LOL She said things I needed to hear. The guy trainer I had yesterday was pretty great too. He led a 7.3 mile ride in the Himalayan foothills in Bhutan. It was pretty scenery and he had a lot of good things to say as well.
The trainers I'm talking about belong to the iFit program. My stationary bike can connect to my cell phone or iPad via bluetooth and while I watch videos of the trainers doing these rides, I follow along and it automatically adjusts the resistance on my bike and tracks the distance, cadence, speed, etc to make it feel like I'm ascending and descending inclines right along with them. It's very cool and the videos are really well done. They are pretty much exactly the same sort of videos I used to watch on the LifeFitness brand of treadmills and bikes at the gym I used to belong to. I can't wait to do the next ride in the series tomorrow with the trainer I had today. There are 3 videos a week for 4 weeks. Intensities, lengths, intervals, and program goals (strength, endurance, recovery, HIIT, etc) will vary with each video. If I remember, I'll try to grab a couple of pictures soon.

CONGRATULATIONS to @ANACONDA469 for continuing her recovery and making her November GOAL!! You are doing great and I hope you're enjoying your mobility with so much less of the knee pain you used to feel!
I set my alarm for 5:30am and actually got my @$$ up and out of bed to Move It! I rode the next stationary bike workout in the iFit series I'm doing and loved it even more. It was mostly steady state except for three 30-second bursts near the end. Got my heart pumping and the sweat flowing! I'm seeing progress and improvements in strength and stamina already. I managed to remember to take a couple of screenshots this morning. And I was wrong ... it wasn't Arizona. It's Moab, Utah.

I've been MIA because I took a trip up to northern Canada in hopes of seeing the Northern Lights, which I've never seen. Yellowknife, the capital of the Northwest Territories, did not disappoint. It was minus 20 F, which was pretty cold for this Florida resident, but fortunately I still have my big parka and snowmobile boots. The other highlight of the trip is we went dog sledding. It was magically quiet and beautiful on the frozen lake, and much easier than skiing!

Wow @JANET, that's amazing that you got to go dogsledding!! What an experience! And the Northern Lights are just so magical to witness in person. We rarely see them as far south in Minnesota where IU live due to all of the city lights of Minneapolis & St. Paul, but we managed to catch just the top edge of them once this year. I haven't seen a skyful of them like your picture for somewhere around 33 years. We were camping somewhere along the North Shore of Lake Superior at Gooseberry Falls. It was also the first time in my life that I had ever seen so many stars. Very happy you got to experience that trip!
I rode 8.59 miles today. MTD: 30.22/100
