20 minutes of snow shoveling (battery operated) part of the driveway. I don't have enough strength to get the snow blower started so I do what I can by hand.
I can't feel my chin or thighs.0 -
Resting my back today after snow blowing. Ry was able to get it started for me but that thing is a BEAST! Our son has restored a 1972 Toro snow blower. It's been a pet project of his for years.
Today, my upper back, shoulders, and neck are feeling it.0 -
Oh wow @Deeder522 that is tough!! We have a tractor with a major blower and a plow on our side-by-side. Grateful for those, just a bit of shoveling by the main door we use for entry. Can't even get into our front door/up those steps now.
Today I did a totally old school Leslie walk, walk to decrease glucose levels, I think it was called? I picked it for the pace. "2" miles in 36 minutes. Feels good to be gaining strength and stamina back!!1 -

I am no longer anemic!!!! WOOT WOOT!!!! My Ferritin is at 28 (from 1) and my hemoglobin is 12 (from 5.2)!!!! Color me very happy: :blushing: I know I feel a ton better and she said I could work out as much as I want!!!!! So, I'll be back to every other day and start to increase my miles in February. It is amazing to feel so good!!!!Thank you both for the good mojo!!!! It worked!!
On the down side, she wants me to get my Ferritin up to 40 so she can cut back on the supplemental iron to 1 tablet every other day because taking iron is hard on the liver. So, not totally out of the woods yet, but I'll take it!!!
@megd44-It is so good to see you getting in your miles slowly. I am so glad COVID did not cause any lasting issues for you. Color you happy as well!!! :blushing: I am in northern NY and up here, the temp has nothing to do with the snow either. It snows at -40 and +40! We have about 3 inches in the driveway that has happened 1/4 inch at a time all the while we have been below 0. We have to sweep off the wood pile every day! :grumble: Meh, it could be worse. It could be 88F and muggy! :noway:
@deeder522-Let me see ... what could have happened to Ryan's thought process????? Considering he is a man, that is your first clue!! I do feel for him though as he is so restricted in what he can do that it must feel like "meeting a challenge" to him to build a computer from scratch. By the way, you are also doing great with your Apple challenge and miles this month!Good luck with your labs!!!
I'll be back on Saturday! Keep Walking! :bigsmile:0 -
No workout yesterday. My body was screaming for a rest day and I listened. Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks?
Today, I did another one of the old school Leslie walks, a heart healthy one. Probably her first heart healthy walk. TBH, glad I didn't find this when I first discovered WAH or I would have bailed. She made a few statements that were just flat out wrong that would have totally turned me off. But I am feeling like I might be ready to up the pace a bit.
Thanks for your support @zichab I can tell I am not at 100% but don't think i will have any of the long COVID issues. I have a close friend that was on the frontlines in the beginning and got it. Watching what she went through with long COVID was heartbreaking. She is doing well now but it was ugly for a while. I am going to continue to listen very carefully to my body and respond accordingly.
Happy weekend all!!0 -
@megd44 The Heart Healthy video with Leslie was 1 of the 1st walks I did and it's still my favorite.
@zichab WAY TO GO!!!! Nice job and getting your levels going in the right direction.
I'm working again this weekend but it should be a simpler job compared to last weekend.
I also have made better progress in the Den where I think I have enough room to get some steps in...again. I'm starting to look forward to getting moving on a regular basis again. 😀
Weather-wise, we warmed up into the 20s today, and the sun came out as well.
We have a mouse that is wintering over on our back screen-in porch. We've seen his footprints in the snow but Ryan saw him today. He's a chubby little guy and I'm calling him Gus-Gus until we can figure out how to rehome him to a different location. Mice aren't unusual being in the country but we try not to make the area around the house inviting.0 -
@Deeder522 I wonder if it is the same Heart one? I know for sure she has at least 2, maybe more. I love her other one. In the one I mentioned above, she is blond and has a blue top on. She makes a throw away comment about cholesterol that is flat out incorrect. It totally surprised me because that's the first time I have felt like that with her comments. Sometimes thought that might not be totally correct but not wrong.
I am probably sensitive to it since I see so many people on MFP panicking about high cholesterol and maybe having to take a statin. And then so many others jumping in saying don't do it, statins/big pharmacy are evil. I have always been in the normal BMI range. I have been a fairly healthy eater my entire post-college life, really began eating super healthy about six months ago. Regular exercise for 2 years or so. And I take a statin. Totally genetic for me, we have tried lowering the amount and my numbers shoot up. No eating or exercise plan will ever change that. My family all jokes the lower yourcweight and healthier you are, the higher your cholesterol level. I guess that's a long way of saying I get an immediate, visceral reaction when I hear wrong info about it.
It has finally stopped snowing here and we are up to 27 degrees, heat wave lol. I have some errands to run, but hoping to get some snowshoeing in later today. Already did a Leslie walks, one of the mix and match blends with the flexibility walk added.1 -

I actually used 1 pound weights today!!! I am over the moon about that!!! The last time I was able to use weights was April 24 of last year! Gosh it feels great to have oxygen and plenty of blood!
@megd44: There are many people with genetic predispositions to both high cholesterol and high BP as well. To suggest statins are just big pharma is irresponsible. Not that I am excusing Big Pharma for everything, but these are two times when they got it very right! My husband's family all have high BP and he has been on a BP lowing drug since he was 34! I come from a family where one side all have high cholesterol and from a very young age as well! I, on the other hand, just started 10mg of a statin because my LDL just went over the line and I am eating very well and working out! I never heard her say anything like that so it must have been early in her career.
@Deeder522 Do you know how we deter mice around here? With a product from Amazon called ... Grandpa Gus! Maybe your fat little guy is the inspiration? After the fall we had with mice in my dishwasher, I do not want mice living anywhere near my house ... which is of course impossible since the woods is their home! However, they can stay in the woods and keep the spiders there with them!!!!
It looks like next week I will be here Mon, Wed and I hope Fri and Sun, but my son is visiting from Netherlands, so I might not get to it. If not, I'll be back as soon as I can. He will be here for a week, so workout time may be limited. I'll check in though so you know I am still alive! :bigsmile:0 -
I agree it was the beginning of Leslie's career, based on the studio look and everything. And please don't misunderstand, she wasn't the one commenting on statins. That is other MFPers. One of the things I find so interesting is the amount of judgment you sometimes see on the boards/threads. Judging based on taking GLP 1 meds or not, other meds or not, what "diet" or not, if someone is too heavy or too light to be on here. I would have expected more from a site where everyone has a goal to improve their health in some way. What works for me may or may not work for someone else. Ok, off my soapbox, lol.
So did Leslie's Burn to the Beat today. I loved it with the build up over the miles. Will definitely be part of my weekly rotation. I am hoping to run a 5k this summer with some nieces, so this one will help a lot.
@zichab enjoy your visit with your son!! What a great thing to have. Can't wait to hear any cool things you learn.
@Deeder522 I hear you on the mice. We have 3 big dogs so I am choosing to believe they keep them away, but sure they are somewhere we haven't found this time of year. I haven't seen any traces but when you live where we do...0 -
The medical community and fitness fanatics can be all over the place with cholesterol. My Dad's always had good cholesterol even his bad was good but he hit 65 or so and his DR wanted to put him on a statin b/c he was getting older. He had a fit, with good reason, DR never mentioned it again. In recent years he studied Ketogenic, did the Keto diet, and dropped his cholesterol 40 points. 🤷🏼♀️
My mom's health is a giant mess and I won't even bother you all with the details. I figured out in my 20s that my health tends to track with my dad's side of the family, however, with perimenopause starting to kick in, we'll see if that changes.
I have no evidence of Gus-Gus making it into the home. I'm pretty sure he's living his best life out on the back porch. 😉
Household cleaning was on the schedule for today. Vacuumed, mopped, sanitized, all the good stuff.
@megd44 I'm talking about the " START! Walking at Home American Heart Association 3 Mile Walk" on YouTube. I have a few different YouTube playlists built up including 1 just of Leslie walks so they are easy for me to find.
@zichab Enjoy your visit with your Son!0 -

Jan 27: Just Walk_Walk Off Fat Fast-40 minute Super Burn: Logged Y: Garmin Tracked:
I am so psyched! I did a 40 minute walk today and I am not the least bit tired!!! I so want to do 3 mile walks, but I am sticking with 40 minute walks this week and will make 3 Mile Walks February's Goal! I looked at my mileage for last year on Garmin and you can see the downward trajectory over the year. I am going to keep better track from now on as Garmin provides a lot of data. I might have noticed that something was amiss if I had remembered to access it!
Oh my gosh @megd44 tell me about it!!!! I actually stopped reading or posting in the forums here because there were so many know it alls!!! Someone would come on and ask a question and the first response was "Do you not know how to use Google?" I did not realize that the Big Pharma comment was in Leslie's comment section or I would have figured it was some self-righteous "medical expert." There was also one lifting forum that was very well moderated and they kicked off anyone who gave what they called "universal medical or food advice." I have been on Leslie's forum for a long time and no one ever was rude or put down another walker that I remember, so I stayed here. Also, I cannot believe you did Burn the Beat today! I was just looking at that one in my DVD box and wondering if it was 40 minutes, but the run time said 75 minutes so I put it back on the shelf for now! Good training for a 5K though!
@deeder522 Doesn't it feel great to get your house all clean and sanitized!!! By the end of October, I was phoning in any deep cleaning and just making sure the bathrooms (we have 3) and the Kitchen were decluttered, clean and sanitized. I had no energy for the rest and in 2 months, things got dusty (wood stove) and the dust bunnies were asking for rabbit pellets!!! :ohwell: I got back to my zone cleaning in January and dispatched all the dust and bunnies that had taken up residence! The living room and dining room are the last 2 and they are getting a deep clean this week!!!! Being that ill made me appreciate the energy I now have that is for sure!!!!!
My son is coming home alone, which he has not done in a very long time! I think he is checking in to be sure we have not been minimizing our health issues. We can hide a lot on Chat and in texts, so I think he wants to see for himself. Plus, he has not been back in the states for over a year and he gets homesick. We have some plans so it should be a good time. See you both on Wednesday!

January Goals
Mileage Tracked - 56 / 60 Miles
Apple Challenge - complete my Stand ring 25 times.✅
I had 2 computer deliveries to clients today. AM/PM but Ryan was able to go on the 2nd delivery which we were both happy about.
The wind has been gusting all day. So much so, that it was causing snow drifts into the roads in areas.
I'm looking forward to a restful night.0 -
Monday I did the Mix and Match Blasters Workout B. Good after a very active weekend. Took a rest day yesterday. Today I did the 2 Mile Easy Walk. Felt good.
I will probably not be on here much this week. Not sure if I ever said this, but I work in non-profit in development. Basically I build relationships and raise money. There was an executive order signed yesterday that has "paused" making federal payments for already awarded grants. We received 2 in 2022, and the payments are equivalent to 10% of our budget. Not trying to get political, but this is illegal and we are now in crisis mode to 1, fight the order and 2, for me to figure out if I can close that gap, if needed, with 8 months of our fiscal year left. So, **it is hitting the fan, stress is up and I am just trying to survive right now. Will be back as I can.
Good luck to you as we close out January.1 -

This has been the best week so far! I got 5 miles on my Garmin on Monday and the last time that happened was April 22, 2024!!!!! I also went for a 3 mile walk today, although one of her shorter ones as it was only 42 minutes. I did not do the band work, but walked it through. I am a little pooped, but not so much that I can't do a full 3 mile walk without any bouncing or boosting as I am not ready for that yet!! :noway:
Oh @megd44- I am so sorry you were impacted by this lunacy!!! This is old Soviet Union stuff to be honest. I heard today that Trump had to rescind it, so hopefully you will be OK at least for this fiscal year. Judges had better brush off their Constitution and get ready to defend it because this "do noting" Congress is certainly not going to step in. We need the Nixon lawyers back who had some back bone!!!
You are doing so well this month @deeder522!!! Your miles are almost at goal and considering all the work you are also doing, that is fantastic!!!
We are just getting snowed on ... period!!! It started at 3:30 AM and is not supposed to stop until 10 PM! WE have about 6" out there now and it looks like we are going to get the 9" that they are predicting. Ithe north country!!!! See you on Friday!

I wholeheartedly believe that going to Costco should count as exercising. Pushing a heavy cart, picking up oversized items, and dodging clueless patrons. I did all that and then had to do a 2nd round of errands in the afternoon. I may not get an actual exercise in but I'm moving for sure.
@zichab Sorry about your snow situation especially since we are having a bit of a warm-up here. You're doing great rebounding from your iron dip. Way to move it, move it!
@megd44 I'm so sorry you have to deal with the mess of a so-called administration. I've had to skew some of my social media feeds so I don't see so many upsetting posts. I'd say it's going to be a long 4 years but we need to make it through the 1st 100 days still.
We are working on getting everything together to file disability for my husband and so many things are making us nervous now that 47 is in office.

I can do 3 miles walks!!! Woot Woot!!! I have logged 5 miles today just with my housework, this workout and going to the dump. We do not have garbage pickup or curb recycling here in the woods so we have to go to the dump and that adds a few steps running around that place! :ohwell:
I am so with you @deeder522! Costco, IKEA, Home Depot, Lowes and any warehouse store (probably Walmart Super Stores as well but I do not ever shop at Walmart) should all post the calories burned at their stores JUST getting around and finding things! I can get lost in IKEA and they even have a path!! My steps go off the chart when I go there. Good Luck with Ryan's disability claim!!! I am crossing my fingers for you! Who knows what incompetents will be hired at Social Security to review claims now!
I am so relieved to move it move it! Here I thought it was all age, but NO it wasn't! I am working on my plan for Feb, but part of it will be beating January's mileage, which is going to be over 100 miles because I am at 97 right now and today is not done yet! This is the Brenda of old for sure!!! The highest I got last year was 88. Why did I not see that something was not right???? :grumble: Anyway, on to February!
My son just landed in Newark thankfully! We have been a little antsy because of the crash in Washington DC. Anyway, the plan is to be here on Sunday, but I will put my goals in even if I do not have a chance to work out. Gotta be accountable now! :bigsmile:1 -
Can you believe we've made it through January?
Today we saw a new Rheumatologist and walked out with orders for 3 x-rays and 23 labs. 🙀 This time, it was a more thorough visit. Fingers crossed we are on a better path for answers.
I'll work on my February plan tonight, hoping to get things going properly in February.

Thank you both for your kind words. It has been one hell of a week. We are doing daily leadership huddles, planning, etc. I'll probably do some work today so we can get a grant out the door next week. Not my "job", but it needs to happen. Yes, memo was pulled but the reimbursement portals are not working and/or going way slower.
@zichab so glad you are feeling better and your son made it home. Enjoy his visit.
@Deeder522 fingers crossed on your husband's claim. Sending lots of positive karma to you.
Will be getting my February plan together today. Got in some good walks this week and over 270,000 steps for January. Considering COVID I'll take it. I told a colleague I am rage working out. At this point, I will be a buff 60 year old in 4 years, lol.1 -
