Ugh! I’m so sick of this. I’m at my all time high. I know I’m not being great but menopause makes this a whole different ballgame. I know Liselyn said it can be done and I’m sure she’s right but it sure isn’t easy or more to the point anything like before I hit menopause. My belly is bigger than ever. It just sucks so bad. Very frustrating.

@fourathomej I am so sorry to hear about your daughter and your family’s loss. So devastating. My heart is breaking for you and your family. Hugs ❤️

@Gidgitgoescrzy I'm so happy to hear you quit smoking and got good news. That must have been scary. My sister didn’t quit until she had a lung cancer diagnosis. But thankfully they were able to remove it and she’s still a non-smoker.

I went out to dinner last night with my husband and another couple. We ended up hanging out at a brewery and grabbing food there. I also had an OK week for exercise, but I think I was slightly higher in calories daily than I wanted to be. My goal is around 1600-1700, and I think I was more like 1800-1900. Hoping though that this weigh in is more water weight from my night out than true gain; we will see!

@Kali225 you have been on a hot streak with meeting your step goal there girl! Keep it up!

@angelaor84 I too fell in week 2 on my steps versus week 1, but I started week 3 off today with a Peloton ride! Hopefully we both meet our goals for week 3!

We are off to a six year old's birthday party this afternoon. It's been snowing like crazy so our primary focus has been working on house projects. I work from home tomorrow as Brad has dental surgery so I need to be his ride afterwards.

    Have a great week ahead!

Today actually ended up being a nice day outside after the storms. It was in the 70s and breezy. I went to the park and was able to do my walk/run training.

@bowens1973 I hope your dental surgery goes well!

@ashleycarole86 and @fourathomej more snow?! I am so glad I live in the south as I am not a fan of snow at all!

My SIL just found out she is having a boy! She is due in October. I am currently crocheting a blanket and want to look for other patterns as well.

    Discussion Question:

We are now 10 weeks into the year! How has it gone for you so far? Any changes you want to make?

Discussion Question: I was chatting with my dietician about this very question last week. I recognize that I need to move away from the idea of deserving little treats every weekend because it snowballs into a whole weekend of “treats.”

For example, I might start out with purchasing an iced latte from a coffee shop, and then it turns into an iced latte and a big muffin or croissant, then lunch out, then ice cream, and carries over into the next day.

When we talked about the “why” it’s because I’ve created this habit of rewarding myself for surviving the workweek with treats. We agreed that it’s good to have balance and have those treats every once in a while but they should not consume my whole weekend.

I want to practice better reward behavior for the next 10 weeks. Instead of just food or drink-related treats, maybe it’s something else I enjoy, like a good mani/pedi, spa day, reading day, or a new place to explore.

    Great question, @lauren_989

I am basically hovering around the same weight I started the year at. With 2023 and 2024 ending in big gains, I'll take this is a minor win.

But, it's not enough. My recent doctor's appointment has suggested the effects of obesity are going to start causing me problems soon.

I do feel the winds of change within me. I've been more moderate with my usually inteusife thoughts of food since my appointment. Despite having a million things to do yesterday, Brad and I rode our Pelotons. So, I'm hoping to build off this momentum.

Happy Monday, I had a good weekend, We picked out the countertop, and I ordered the cabinets. I am confident I made the right choices… ( Did you believe that?, cause I am still trying to convince myself)

It's a Maple Barley shaker cabinet, with sage green/ white veining quartz countertops.

Flooring decision is next, I am thinking dark grey and light gray 12x12 in an angled checkerboard pattern. I am thinking If I can find a grey with slight green undertones, it will be great, I can also do browns, I saw one that was wood looking tile, mixed with a cream stone looking stone, I liked that too.

I am doing this to my liking, I don't care about trends, or what will sell best, I am in this house for the next 15 years, so it's all for me. lol - I think that makes a difference in your choices, if I knew I was going to be selling in 5 years, I would probably not get a green countertop, but I really like it.

@micki48 I know Liselyn said it was easy to do this through menopause, and no disrespect to her at all, but Not everything for everyone is the same. Think of it this way, she is in Canada in a remote area, where she is eating fresh foods, and breathing clean air. Whereas you and I are in the States, not just any states, but major metropolitan cities, where air quality, and water quality is all iffy, we are subjected to major hormone disrupters every single day through no choice of our own, our food system is not the best, alot of iffy stuff is allowed in our food. So yes, if you can get through menopause, or perimenopause without any help, great, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with getting a little help. I think you should talk to your dr, and see if hrt could be right for you, it's worth a shot, go on it, give it a full 3-6 months, and if it's not for you, you can stop. It made a huge difference for me.

I am feeling good this week, husband is back to being out of town for work, so this is my last 2 weeks of days all to myself, since my son moves back home in 2 weeks. I've made grilled chicken on salad for lunches, and turkey taco meat for dinners, I can make that so many different ways it's wont' bother me to eat it every night. In about 3 weeks though I lose my kitchen, so it is going to be a challenge, I am getting prepared though. I think we will do alot of grilling, and some of those meal services where it's already prepared, and you just heat it up. I will also go over my brother in laws and prep some stuff there.

    Havea great day !

Only 10 weeks ? Seems like it's been 2 years. It hasn't gone well, I was not feeling well for a third of it, but I feel like I kinda flow with the season, in January and Feb it was hard, I was like hibernating, It was cold and ugly outside and now with spring coming, my spirit is much lighter, and I feel more optimistic, so hopefully, my body will follow suit and get a little lighter. I would like to move a little more consistently, I do great one week, not so great the next 2, then I am back on track. So, I would like to be more consistent.

I would also like to continue being a non-smoker, I am actually loving not smoking though, it's only been 3 weeks, but I feel better, and I feel like my skin is making a comeback.

Discussion question: I feel that my year has been going well and I am still losing weight weekly. I would like to hone in on nutrition a bit more. I haven't been measuring my serving sizes and have been visualizing using my hand and the healthy plate model, and think if I did better at measuring I could lose a bit more. I'm going to be more mindful about not eating after 6pm, I find that if we eat a late dinner I tend to gain a bit of weight, it comes back off after a day or 2 if I get back on track. So my solution is if dinner is going to after 6pm then I will eat something light like a salad or protein shake.

I am loving the answers to the discussion question this week!

@wishfuljune I am in a very similar boat to you. And I only realized it a few weeks ago. I've been treating myself for making it through the day at work. Or having a treat at work just because. Daily treats do not equate to weight loss!

I am frustrated though, because I've done really well the past 2 weeks and the scale isn't showing it. I did start exercising again, so I hope it's just water retention.

Yesterday, I ook a treat day and what a day it was. I was like a kid in a candy shop - shame on me. I'm recovering from a food hangover; one reaps what one sows. Looking ahead to better decisions.

    @Lyss983 great loss!!

@Gidgitgoescrzy I love the idea of green in a countertop! my favorite color

@wishfuljune and @lauren_989 I hear ya - definitely letting my "friday night is takeout night" get a bit out of hand the last few weeks. I might try switching to takeout every other week, and pushing the portions of my meal prep out another night or two instead. It will be extra tempting to order door dash these days because I got a new credit card recently and it came with a 6 month trial of door dash's premium service (?) so no delivery fees and sometimes lower prices/deals on the food itself… ugh

I want to reflect more on how the year has been going but it is 11pm so off to bed I go.

@fourathomej I am so sorry for your and your family's loss. That's devastating. So much light being sent your way.

I am well on the way to recovery after a few days of couch and self pity, and it's time to stop using recovery as an excuse to binge! I can't believe how much junk I've eaten this week. NO MORE!!

I'm going to aim for a gentle walk today, maybe 5000 steps for the whole day. And to eat proper meals! With vegetables!!

@Alatariel75 While surgery is not an excuse to binge, it is to relax and heal! Focus on protein 😊

@Gidgitgoescrzy First, I love the green countertop plan. It’s my favorite color too. I had a green countertop when I redid my kitchen at my first home. I loved it. The cabinets sounds perfect too. Also, thank you so much for your thoughts on losing weight and menopause. I hadn’t thought about that. It has also been harder to loose since we moved from Greensboro to Philadelphia. I think you may be on to something. Now, I need to make an appointment with my gyn.

    Discussion Question:

We are now 10 weeks into the year! How has it gone for you so far? Any changes you want to make?

Yikes! Not well at all. But I agree…those 10 weeks feel like years!!! I picked up a few viruses back to back from my kiddos from around Jan. 15th. I am just now (in the last week) beginning to feel normal. It also triggered my asthma which has not really been an issue for me, but now I am on a long acting new medication. That doesn’t thrill me. But I do feel better when I take it. I have had no consistency with logging or exercising. My weight has crept up to my all time high as well. Ugh. I am also a rewarder of treats for making it through the day. I also stress eat. Not awful but occasionally. So…now what?! I know I need to check in here regularly. When I was successful here, I was active in our group and was logging my meals. I know that novelty helps me so maybe I was thinking if I wasn’t that active, I’d come back fresh. Not working. Just make a choice. So I am choosing to check in regularly. I will log my food today. (One day at a time, right?) And REALLY want to get on my mat and do 10 minutes of Pilates. I’m on spring break and you’d think I’d have time but I’ve been entertaining my granddaughter to give my daughter a break as she works from home. Yesterday we went to a nature center. She was playing around a pond and we saw two snakes!🐍 That’s fun.

I read something recently that said Being skinny or obese is a choice. I’m not sure it’s that simple. No one I know chooses to be obese and yet choices alone will not always get us out of there. Everyone of us is different. Our ages, genetics, metabolism, all that stuff. But I know support of others helps for sure. Thank you all for being part of the process. ❤️
