- How did you learn about the 5% Challenges? I joined the 5% Challenges with Sparks in 2010. I found out about them after they had already started their first round. I was put on a waitlist with a bunch of made friends with a particular lady and she told me about the 5% challenges. She eoncouraged me to join but I was not on her team the first time. I was with The Butterflies (or something like that). However, after that I was on the Teddy Bears until the end. I made lots of friends and came over to MFP when SP closed.
- How many 5% Challenges have you completed? Please share some of the "Wins" that keep you coming back. I have been on all the 5% since 2011 so about 60. The “wins” are achieving and being accountable for my goals and most important the friendship that I have made throughout the years.
- What major city do you live in or near? State? I just moved to Round Rock, Texas from Florida and I am literally getting to know the area.
- What are your health/fitness goals for this season? I want to be healthy, gain strength and reach my goal weight.
- Do you like Spring? I love Spring for various reasons. Things start to bloom, the weather is perfect, my birthday, my son’s and granddaughters.

- How did you learn about the 5% Challenges? I found it by browsing the MFP groups
- How many 5% Challenges have you completed? Please share some of the "Wins" that keep you coming back. I have only participated/completed one 5% challenge and was very successful in going from 142.8 to 128.8 in only eight weeks! This was a very supportive group. I hope to be more of an active participant this session. Sometimes, life gets in the way. 😉
- What major city do you live in or near? State? Tell us a bit about where you live. I live on a fishing lake halfway between Akron and Youngstown Ohio. There are only a handful of houses on my street and the smallest lot is around five acres. While we are only five miles north of Alliance it seems like we are totally isolated. It is very quiet and there is an abundance of wildlife—most of whom love to eat my flowers. In addition, since this is a quiet place, people feel free to drop off their unwanted cats/dogs. I do not know what they expect will happen to their old pets, but coyotes, owls, eagles, cars, and starvation seem to take most of them. We feed five feral cats and a beat-up looking opossum.
- What are your health/fitness goals for this season? This session I would like to learn how to maintain my weight loss so that I do not need to start all over again, and again, and again...
- Do you like Spring? Why or why not? Spring is great. It is always an opportunity to start anew.
- What are your favorite Spring activities? I enjoy gardening.
- What is your favorite type of Spring exercise? I do not have a favorite. Sometimes I am lucky just to get exercise (other than running my mouth).

3. How did you learn about the 5% Challenges? I found it on Spark People. I was on a team and one of the members asked me to join them on the challenges. She and I have been on the same team doing for these challenges since 2011 I think.

Some of the wins I have had are great support from the team when I was going through cancer and treatments. I still did the challenges. I had great support with the team. They helped me to push through the aches and pains and I did small amounts of exercise.

I live North of Memphis about 30 or 35 miles. It’s a nice town. It’s just getting too big.

I love Spring when all of the pretty flowers and colors are popping. I don’t like all of the pollen. I have allergies and some days are worse than others.

- 5. What major city do you live in or by? State? Tell us about where you live..…InIn one direction, Cleveland about 2 hrs while in another Akron is about 20-30 minutes…OHIO…town has historic sections but evolved into being mostly a university one.
- 6. What are your health/fitness goals for this challenge?...... Regained all my weight loss and struggle to lose again. Last couple years, had home and health issues really prevented strong motivation efforts. Need to rethink my outlook and use some action.
- 7. Do you like Spring? Why or why not?…
- Yes.....I was told once I looked like the first day of Spring. Weeell......actual words was I looked like the day after a long hard winter. (Kidding LOL)) Just an example to look for the positive side of things.
- 8. What are your favorite Spring activities?.....Anything being outside. Love working in garden/flower beds.

- Walking.. it's a struggle but I do what I am able to do.

4. How many 5% Challenges have you completed? Please share some of the "Wins" that keep you coming back. Two. I’ve lost weight with each challenge. I love the tips and humor that comes from team members.

San Jose, large urban area south of San Francisco. I moved here from South Dakota back in the 70s. I love my neighborhood-diverse, friendly, lots of community activities.
6. What are your health/fitness goals for this season? Keep losing weight, increase my fitness, work on sleep hygiene

Favorite season because it’s time to plant!

Gardening

Plan your exercise time just like you would schedule any activity such as lunch with a friend.

4. How many 5% Challenges have you completed? Please share some of the "Wins" that keep you coming back. — Not sure anymore. . . I love the friendly and compassionate accountability.
5. What major city do you live in or near? State? Tell us a bit about where you live. — Ann Arbor, MI, west of Detroit by about 50 miles and home to the. Univ. of Michigan where my husband works. Our town has a lot of mature trees, as its name suggests, and the Huron river runs through it with a nice long walking/ jogging path right next to it.
6. What are your health/fitness goals for this season? — To continue losing weight and increase the length and speed of my jogs.
7. Do you like Spring? Why or why not? — Yes! It's the end of winter, there's more sunlight, and eventually more warmth. I love seeing flowers emerging and trees budding. I also like seeing all the critters that have hibernated over the winter — except for the skunks. LOL! (They don't technically hibernate but we don't see them in the winter.)
8. What are your favorite Spring activities? — Walking and jogging

11. What always cheers you up? — Sunshine on trees. My daughter's 6 month old labrador retriever! Actually seeing and talking to any of my 3 children also cheers me up. Date nights with my husband do as well.
12. Do you have a diet or fitness tip to share? — Hmm… Be patient with yourself; don't expect big changes immediately. If you mess up, just get back on course and don't dwell on it. We all have to eat some chocolate sometimes. :)
13. Please share two fun things about you. — (1) I'm not fully bilingual, though I know a little of several different languages. My husband is from the Netherlands, and my kids grew up in a bilingual household. My own Dutch is mediocre. (2) I enjoy super hard sudokus.
14. Anything else you would like to share? — I work part-time teaching ESL and doing some curriculum dev work. I'm in the middle of moving my mother from a long term care facility in central Illinois to one in my city here in Michigan,1 -

4. How many 5% Challenges have you completed? Please share some of the "Wins" that keep you coming back. This will be my second challenge. In Winter 2025, I lost over 8 lbs in 7 weeks (life got in the way of finishing the final week), a number I hope to exceed this time!
5. What major city do you live in or near? State? Tell us a bit about where you live. Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA (south of Denver). One of the pre-eminent military communities in the nation (one city, four military bases).
6. What are your health/fitness goals for this season? I want to drop another 10 lbs, get my BF% low enough to transition to a bulking phase (eat more to gain muscle).
7. Do you like Spring? Why or why not? I like the fact Spring marks an end to winter, so yes. (Now, summer is a season I can get behind!)
8. What are your favorite Spring activities? Spring Cleaning! Dusting etc is fine, but it's liberating to go through possessions and target unused/unneeded items to donate or throw away, making more room in the house.
9. What is your favorite type of Spring exercise? Along with Spring Cleaning, my wife likes to "renovate" the house by moving furniture around to create a "new" look…guess who is tasked with actually moving the couch and shelves?
10. Would you rather take a walk, garden, or clean the house? Clean the house, because when done you have a visible proof that you helped change the world for the better.
11. What always cheers you up? Teaching somebody a new skill or piece of knowledge…I would happily be a school teacher, if only the paycheck supported my current standard of living!
12. Do you have a diet or fitness tip to share? Patience is everything. Be patient with yourself when you slip up; be patient with others who may not believe the same as you; be patient to give your plan time to take effect.
13. Please share two fun things about you. I have studied three different martial arts (no, I am not a black belt in any of them). We currently have 19 warm bodies living under my roof (six humans, eight cats, two dogs, three parakeets), and that doesn't count the various friends-of-my-kids who stay a night or two at a time.
14. Anything else you would like to share? This May will mark 30 years since I graduated high school. Doesn't seem possible it's been so long.

I remain accountable even when I'm having a bad or rushed day … I've learned to try new things like calm breathing, meditating, the importance of taking measurements and before and after photos.
- What major city do you live in or near? State? Tell us a bit about where you live. I live in the lower part of Delaware. It's between Washington DC and Philadelphia, and it's pretty rural .. mostly farms and beaches. It's a place where you know all your neighbors and we look out for each other.
- What are your health/fitness goals for this season? 85+g protein and LT 100g carbs daily. Gym classes 6 days a week.
- Do you like Spring? Why or why not? Yes, I like all the seasons.
- What are your favorite Spring activities? Baseball, hiking, fishing, gardening, swimming.
- What is your favorite type of Spring exercise? Most of my exercise classes are indoors so they are similar all year round (Kickboxing, Circuit Bootcamp, Step, Pilates, Yoga, Weights) But I do play baseball more often outside with my grandson with Spring here.
- Would you rather take a walk, garden, or clean the house? 1-Walk, 2-Garden, 99-Clean the House
- What always cheers you up? Watching the sunrise and sunset. Talking to Hubs or my daughter or friends.
- Do you have a diet or fitness tip to share? Pre-track all your food and adjust if you make changes. Find one (or many) accountability partners who are going to make sure you show up for yourself.

6. What are your health/fitness goals for this season? To just keep moving and trying I have done this journey a couple of times and let life derail my efforts. Gracefully allow the slip and fall but get back up again and try again.

5. What major city do you live in or near? State? Tell us a bit about where you live. Colorado Springs CO. Elbert is a small community in the country. We are at 7000 feet so gardening is not too goos but summers are great.
6. What are your health/fitness goals for this season? The biggest reason is to stay active and losing some weight as well. At 75 years old staying active is my main goal.
7. Do you like Spring? Why or why not? The smell! It is so earthy smelling when things thaw out and new growth takes over. A new being for everything.
8. What are your favorite Spring activities? Getting ready to plant a garden. It takes sometime to get everything ready so you have to start early. And at my age it takes a lot longer to get things done so the sooner I start the better. I like to just get outside and walk around the property, however I like to do that all the time not just in spring. Even when we didn't go anywhere during winter I would get out and walk then too.
9. What is your favorite type of Spring exercise? The gardening part. There is just something about playing in the dirt I can't resist.
10. Would you rather take a walk, garden, or clean the house? No brainer Gardening.
11. What always cheers you up? Waking up in the morning to a fresh new day.
12. Do you have a diet or fitness tip to share? Always track what you eat every bit of it. It is so easy to way over eat.
