    1. My goal for this month it to reach my goal weight of 185lbs (2 lbs away), to reach the 60km distance with my long bicycle rides (Gosl of reaching 100km by Fall), and bring my flexibility bioage down to 55 years.

    2. The small, actionable steps I plan to take towards this goal are to maintain my cholesterol healthy diet, remain consistent with my fitness routine, to increase my flexibility exercises, and to ride my bike at least 3 days a week.

    3. My reminder or cue to keep up with my habit is to consistently log my food intake and exercise logs.

    5. My reward for maintaining my habit is to have the satisfaction of reaching my goal weight and feeling strong and energized.

    6. Support comes from my family and friends, and sharing on these type of forums.

    7. Success at the end of April will to be able to look good in just about any clothes I wear, and when I look in the mirror to feel proud of how my physique has improved over the last 8 months.

What a wonderful plan @Interbeing! Three impressive goals that are doable and in line with what you’ve already been doing. You’ve also got a wonderful plan to make these goals happen !

@BodyTalking, I love the idea of putting “a spring in my step!” I’m stealing that!

@macrat12 - those are some impressive goals! I really like designating some Active Days and other Power Days! I need to steal that too!

    1. My goal for this month is to post a poem daily and walk 100 miles!

    2. The small, actionable steps I plan to take towards this goal. Walk at least one mile before lunchtime every day.

    3. My reminder or cue to keep up with my habit - put a reminder on my phone.

    5. My reward for maintaining the habit (anything from a self-compliment to a mark on the calendar) Choose a celebration for each mile from my tiny habits.

    6. How can we support you? Being here and an occasional cheer

    7. What will success look like at the end of April? I’ll have stronger bones, better cardiovascular fitness, and a calmer spirit from spending the time outdoors.

April 1 - I walked 3.5 miles before lunch. I hope to get more later in the day.

April is Poetry Month, and I thought a little "nonsense" from Lewis Carroll was fitting for April Fools Day

    The Walrus and The Carpenter
    by Lewis Carroll
(from Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There, 1872)

The sun was shining on the sea,
    Shining with all his might:
He did his very best to make
    The billows smooth and bright--
And this was odd, because it was
    The middle of the night.

    The moon was shining sulkily,
    Because she thought the sun
Had got no business to be there
    After the day was done--
"It's very rude of him," she said,
"To come and spoil the fun!"

The sea was wet as wet could be,
The sands were dry as dry.
You could not see a cloud, because
No cloud was in the sky:
    No birds were flying overhead--
There were no birds to fly.

    The Walrus and the Carpenter
    Were walking close at hand;
They wept like anything to see
    Such quantities of sand:
"If this were only cleared away,"
They said, "it would be grand!"

"If seven maids with seven mops
Swept it for half a year.
Do you suppose," the Walrus said,
"That they could get it clear?"
"I doubt it," said the Carpenter,
    And shed a bitter tear.

"O Oysters, come and walk with us!"
    The Walrus did beseech.
"A pleasant walk, a pleasant talk,
    Along the briny beach:
We cannot do with more than four,
To give a hand to each."

The eldest Oyster looked at him,
But never a word he said:
The eldest Oyster winked his eye,
    And shook his heavy head--
Meaning to say he did not choose
    To leave the oyster-bed.

But four young Oysters hurried up,
    All eager for the treat:
Their coats were brushed, their faces washed,
Their shoes were clean and neat--
And this was odd, because, you know,
    They hadn't any feet.

    Four other Oysters followed them,
    And yet another four;
And thick and fast they came at last,
And more, and more, and more--
All hopping through the frothy waves,
    And scrambling to the shore.

    The Walrus and the Carpenter
Walked on a mile or so,
And then they rested on a rock
    Conveniently low:
And all the little Oysters stood
    And waited in a row.

"The time has come," the Walrus said,
    "To talk of many things:
    Of shoes--and ships--and sealing-wax--
    Of cabbages--and kings--
And why the sea is boiling hot--
    And whether pigs have wings."

"But wait a bit," the Oysters cried,
    "Before we have our chat;
For some of us are out of breath,
And all of us are fat!"
    "No hurry!" said the Carpenter.
They thanked him much for that.

"A loaf of bread," the Walrus said,
    "Is what we chiefly need:
    Pepper and vinegar besides
    Are very good indeed--
Now if you're ready, Oysters dear,
    We can begin to feed."

"But not on us!" the Oysters cried,
    Turning a little blue.
"After such kindness, that would be
    A dismal thing to do!"
"The night is fine," the Walrus said.
    "Do you admire the view?

"It was so kind of you to come!
    And you are very nice!"
    The Carpenter said nothing but
    "Cut us another slice:
I wish you were not quite so deaf--
I've had to ask you twice!"

"It seems a shame," the Walrus said,
"To play them such a trick,
After we've brought them out so far,
And made them trot so quick!"
    The Carpenter said nothing but
    "The butter's spread too thick!"

"I weep for you," the Walrus said:
    "I deeply sympathize."
With sobs and tears he sorted out
    Those of the largest size,
    Holding his pocket-handkerchief
    Before his streaming eyes.

    "O Oysters," said the Carpenter,
    "You've had a pleasant run!
Shall we be trotting home again?'
    But answer came there none--
And this was scarcely odd, because
    They'd eaten every one.

    1. My goal for this month is to continue working on a consistent strength training routine and increasing my water intake.

    2. The small, actionable steps I plan to take towards these goals is to create a daily workout plan and set a notification every hour to drink water.

    3. My reminder or cue to keep up with my habit will be the notification for water and to log my workouts in a planner

    5. My reward for maintaining the habit will be muscle definition and happy kidneys.

    6. How can we support you? Share your achievements, struggles and words of encouragement.

    7. What will success look like at the end of April? Defined muscles and hydrated skin.

My goal this month is to hopefully let go of the extra 5lbs I have been hanging on to. Seems so simple but I keep getting derailed. I would also like to get where I can walk almost every day at lunch time it’s a good way to digress from the mornings tasks.

    “The Peace of Wild Things”

    by Wendell Berry

When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children's lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.

    Thanks @Interbeing !

Funny story: This morning I told my daughter that I had posted this poem which is one of her favorites too. However, after 5 minutes of discussion,, I realized that she was talking about Where the Wild Things Are, the children’s book by Sendak. It went something like this:
Me: I love the image of the “day-blind stars.”
Her: “And the soup was still hot.”

I probably started it by saying the title wrong.🤣

    4/1 - 2 miles, Upper body/Abs workout

    4/2 - 2.25 miles and extra 💦

This morning I set up the water reminders for every hour (13 reminders), so today I’ll see how well they work. The goal is to drink 1 cup each hour.

I’ve been using Project You DVDs for my strength training workouts, but checked out a Home Workout book from the library and will create a few routines to mix things up.

    Lots of great goals! 💪🏻🚶‍♀️🏋️‍♀️🚴‍♀️💦🏆🧘‍♀️

    We got this!

A Prayer in Spring by Robert Frost

    Oh, give us pleasure in the flowers to-day;
And give us not to think so far away
As the uncertain harvest; keep us here
All simply in the springing of the year.

Oh, give us pleasure in the orchard white,
    Like nothing else by day, like ghosts by night;
And make us happy in the happy bees,
The swarm dilating round the perfect trees.

And make us happy in the darting bird
That suddenly above the bees is heard,
The meteor that thrusts in with needle bill,
And off a blossom in mid air stands still.

For this is love and nothing else is love,
The which it is reserved for God above
To sanctify to what far ends He will,
But which it only needs that we fulfil.

    April 3 poem!

    April 4 poem

The Prodigal Son by James Weldon Johnson (1871-1938)
    Young man—
    Young man—
Your arm’s too short to box with God.

But Jesus spake in a parable, and he said:
A certain man had two sons.
Jesus didn’t give this man a name,
But his name is God Almighty.
And Jesus didn’t call these sons by name,
    But ev’ry young man,
    Ev’rywhere,
Is one of these two sons.

And the younger son said to his father,
He said: Father, divide up the property,
And give me my portion now.

And the father with tears in his eyes said: Son,
    Don’t leave your father’s house.
But the boy was stubborn in his head,
    And haughty in his heart,
And he took his share of his father’s goods,
And went into a far-off country.

    There comes a time,
    There comes a time
When ev’ry young man looks out from his father’s house,
    Longing for that far-off country.

And the young man journeyed on his way,
And he said to himself as he travelled along:
This sure is an easy road,
Nothing like the rough furrows behind my father’s plow.

    Young man—
    Young man—
Smooth and easy is the road
That leads to hell and destruction.
    Down grade all the way,
The further you travel, the faster you go.
No need to trudge and sweat and toil,
Just slip and slide and slip and slide
Till you bang up against hell’s iron gate.

And the younger son kept travelling along,
Till at night-time he came to a city.
And the city was bright in the night-time like day,
The streets all crowded with people,
Brass bands and string bands a-playing,
And ev’rywhere the young man turned
There was singing and laughing and dancing.
And he stopped a passer-by and he said:
Tell me what city is this?
And the passer-by laughed and said: Don’t you know?
    This is Babylon, Babylon,
    That great city of Babylon.
Come on, my friend, and go along with me.
And the young man joined the crowd.

    Young man—
    Young man—
    You’re never lonesome in Babylon.
You can always join a crowd in Babylon.
    Young man—
    Young man—
You can never be alone in Babylon,
Alone with your Jesus in Babylon.
You can never find a place, a lonesome place,
A lonesome place to go down on your knees,
And talk with your God, in Babylon.
You’re always in a crowd in Babylon.
And the young man went with his new-found friend,
And bought himself some brand new clothes,
And he spent his days in the drinking dens,
    Swallowing the fires of hell.
And he spent his nights in the gambling dens,
Throwing dice with the devil for his soul.
And he met up with the women of Babylon.
    Oh, the women of Babylon!
Dressed in yellow and purple and scarlet,
Loaded with rings and earrings and bracelets,
Their lips like a honeycomb dripping with honey,
    Perfumed and sweet-smelling like a jasmine flower;
And the jasmine smell of the Babylon women
Got in his nostrils and went to his head,
And he wasted his substance in riotous living,
In the evening, in the black and dark of night,
With the sweet-sinning women of Babylon.
And they stripped him of his money,
And they stripped him of his clothes,
And they left him broke and ragged
    In the streets of Babylon.

Then the young man joined another crowd—
The beggars and lepers of Babylon.
And he went to feeding swine,
    And he was hungrier than the hogs;
He got down on his belly in the mire and mud
And ate the husks with the hogs.
And not a hog was too low to turn up his nose
At the man in the mire of Babylon.

Then the young man came to himself—
He came to himself and said:
In my father’s house are many mansions,
Ev’ry servant in his house has bread to eat,
    Ev’ry servant in his house has a place to sleep;
I will arise and go to my father.
And his father saw him afar off,
And he ran up the road to meet him.
He put clean clothes upon his back,
And a golden chain around his neck,
He made a feast and killed the fatted calf,
    And invited the neighbors in.

    Oh-o-oh, sinner,
When you’re mingling with the crowd in Babylon—
    Drinking the wine of Babylon—
Running with the women of Babylon—
You forget about God, and you laugh at Death.
Today you’ve got the strength of a bull in your neck
And the strength of a bear in your arms,
But some o’ these days, some o’ these days,
You’ll have a hand-to-hand struggle with bony Death,
And Death is bound to win.

Young man, come away from Babylon,
    That hell-border city of Babylon.
Leave the dancing and gambling of Babylon,
The wine and whiskey of Babylon,
    The hot-mouthed women of Babylon;
    Fall down on your knees,
    And say in your heart:
I will arise and go to my Father.

@77tes you’re well on your way to hit 100 this month. Awesome!

    4/3 - short walk at lunch .65

    4/4 - Lower body/Abs workout

    4/5 - 3 mile walk.

The reminders worked really well, especially on day 1. Day 2 not so much. I forgot my tracker and was absorbed in work, so not as many refills. Better today; had my water bottle with me! 💦💦

I was reading this from another challenge and decided I had nothing to lose 😂😂 it’s working ! I am pretty close at the end of the day with my calorie numbers from mfp and my numbers from the above three categories a little extra work but it’s ok I like the results so far. Seamus Heaney (1939–2013)

    Miracle

Not the one who takes up his bed and walks
But the ones who have known him all along
    And carry him in —

Their shoulders numb, the ache and stoop deeplocked
In their backs, the stretcher handles
Slippery with sweat. And no let up

Until he’s strapped on tight, made tiltable
and raised to the tiled roof, then lowered for healing.
Be mindful of them as they stand and wait

For the burn of the paid out ropes to cool,
    Their slight lightheadedness and incredulity
To pass, those who had known him all along.

Since today is Willam Wordsworth's Birthday, I offer a snippet from Intimations of Immortality:

Then sing, ye Birds, sing, sing a joyous song!
And let the young Lambs bound
    As to the tabor's sound!
We in thought will join your throng,
Ye that pipe and ye that play,
Ye that through your hearts to-day
Feel the gladness of the May!
What though the radiance which was once so bright
Be now forever taken from my sight,
Though nothing can bring back the hour
    Of splendor in the grass, of glory in the flower;
We will grieve not, rather find
    Strength in what remains behind;
    In the primal sympathy
    Which having been must ever be;
In the soothing thoughts that spring
    Out of human suffering;
In the faith that looks through death,
In years that bring the philosophic mind.
