We all remember what it was like the first time we joined the 5%. We had so many questions.
The question I've heard the most is, "Where do we post?" Below is a brief look at Week 1, which I hope will answer that question.
Week 1! Saturday, April 12, through Friday, April 18!
The challenge begins on Saturday morning, April 12th.
- Small Daily Goal ~ TBA
- Exercise ~ 120 Minutes Daily Max
- Measurements
- Meet The Cheerleaders
- Healthy Habit Focus
All points will be counted starting Saturday, April 12, at 12:00 AM (midnight) in your local time zone and ending April 18th, at 11:59 PM in your local time zone.
PLEASE POST YOUR RESULTS ON YOUR CHALLENGE TEAM PAGE. Your team leaders will have an Announcement or Discussion dedicated to posting your challenge numbers and an example of the posting format to use. Please do not change the order of the format they request you to use. A second dedicated thread with detailed instructions will be for posting your weight. Your team leaders will answer all questions. Another good source of information will be from your teammates on your team’s "Chat Room."

@yakkystuff Please contact me. I tried to send you a friend request and couldn't because your profile is private.

Found a button on your profile to send friend request, and also sent a message if it goes through, hopefully you can reply to it.
Thanks
Ps, no idea how to unprivate mine or why it is...

Looked at my settings, they were/are marked for mfp members only, so i don't know...

I hope you do not mind my answering that question for you. When we sign onto MFP they automatically make us private. To undo that option here's how:
From your home page, click on SETTINGS after that click on My Profile is viewable by, and choose which option you wish.

Thx, mine was already set (still is set to 'myfitnesspal members' (see pic above i posted)
So? any MFP member should be able to see... but at this time, is showing as private.
Weird

Yakkystuff's profile is NOT private. I think the issue is that her Activity Profile is private (as is mine). When the Activity Profile is private, and you click on the Profile Icon that is next to a member's post, it does not go to the MFP Home profile where friend requests and messages are sent. It goes to a members Activity Profile on the Community side of things, which has a button that will take you to their Home Profile. That's where the setting needs to be changed if she doesn't want it private. I have chosen to make mine private and it does complicate some things because a lot of members don't know how to access the Home Profile without first going through the Activity Profile.
First to access anyone's Home Profile directly, just put their user name at the end of this URL:
https://www.myfitnesspal.com/profile/
So mine would be https://www.myfitnesspal.com/profile/DNjoys
I'm being very careful in how this is typed so you can see what it looks like. If I make it a link, it will automatically change by default so you can't read the URL. (Tip: before pasting the link, space down a bit so you can move your cursor lower to continue writing without putting a space after the last character in the line. Putting that space there causes it to go into default mode and become a link without the URL visible.)
Another way to do it if you can't remember or easily locate the generic URL is to open anyone's profile and just change the user name at the end of the URL in your browser.
To change the privacy setting of your Activity Profile, just click on your own Profile icon next to any post you've made, and you'll get a partial snapshot of your Activity Profile. Click on "View Profile" in the center of the box. That should open your Activity Profile. At the top of the page, on the right, there is a button that says MyFitnessPalProfile, a person's silhouette drop down box, and your Profile icon image. Click on the middle drop down box and then on "Edit Profile". On the left, look for the Privacy options and if you want your Activity Profile to be private, make sure the box is unchecked. If you want anyone on MFP to be able to view it, check the box to make it public. This will not affect who can view your MyFitnessPal Profile accessed through the Home Page.

Wow, ok, had to read that a couple times, but ty - take it there are settings 2 places. Will check that.
Ty @DNjoys - wondering if there's a reason to stay private? Have noticed a lot of people are in the MFP forums - could be an autoset thing tho.

Ty, found it!

@yakkystuff - I tend to lean towards the private side of things and actually try not to post too much in any public place on the Internet, but only where I can set things to friends only or private teams. I make an exception on this Community team, but usually to help someone rather than share something personal.
The Activity Profile does not have a friends only option. It's everyone can view or no one can. I had left it public until MFP made some changes that exposed private information on our Activity Profile including partial and complete posts made on private teams that only members of that team were supposed to be able to see. That included things like birth dates, vacation dates, where members live - anything they shared in a post on their teams. In looking at some other member's posts, all summarized together in one place, I was amazed at how much I could learn about them. I came very close to leaving MFP over it, but they did get it fixed so only those who were on the private teams could see those private posts. If you post on public teams, anyone can view it from your Activity Profile without having to be reading through all the different team posts. For example, in looking at yours for just a few seconds, I know you like cheesesticks & fruit, chilled tangerines, and asparagus - posted on a team I'm not even aware of and would never see otherwise. A lot of members don't care who in the world would know that about them, but I do. Info is just handed to them condensed on a silver platter. At least that's my view.
Although MFP fixed that glitch, it left me feeling unsafe, and I am now choosing to keep my Activity Profile private. People who have viewing rights can see it in the places it's posted and meant to be seen. I disagree with the whole concept of the Activity Profile as it is set up.
If you've not explored the Activity Profile, you may not realize posts are visible. I hadn't until things glitched and I started looking closer. When you're in your Activity Profile, on the right hand side under your profile pic, is a list - Activity, Posts, Replies. Click on posts and any posts you have made should be listed (I could not see yours so assume you made those on private teams); But when I clicked on Replies, I see a lot of your comments.

@yakkystuff I'm happy to see you are still with us and glad you are getting things figured out. We know the challenge information can be overwhelming at first, but sticking with it until we get going makes everything fall into place. There is always room for improvement, but we must be doing something right to still be active after 15 years.
@DNjoys @Dianedoessmiles1 Thank you for responding with answers for yakkystuff!

Ooh, ty. Same, I don't (intend to) share personal/identifying info on the net, especially public. I thought when it was set to Mfp only, that is what I meamt
Had no idea a list of my replies/posts is there for anyone/everyone...
Guess i will turn the activity part back off. TYsm!!! For the heads up on it.
and, ty too @Ceriusly1 - it is overwhelming. Appreciate the encouragement.

@yakkystuff - The two Profiles are different. The MyFitnessPal Profile where you have the option of MFP only - is only for those who are members of MFP. Your Activity Profile doesn't give you the same options. It's either on (public) or off. So it's ok to leave your MyFitnessPal Profile set on MFP if you are okay with any MFP member viewing it. On that page they only see your photo and whatever info you choose to post on that page. Having 2 Profiles is very confusing!

I'll say! Had no idea and appreciate you walking me through it @DNjoys

@yakkystuff At this point the 5% Should be confusing to you as it had to the rest of us when we were new also , however, we are extremely happy to have you with us. It will make sense quite soon. This is normal. But, it's also why the 5% Challenge team works so well. HANG on in with us!
