Please use this space to discuss the benefits (or not) of the "Know What You're Eating" challenge.

I became more aware of what I was eating and paid more attention to the empty calories I was consuming.

This question was asked on the Success Stories Board.

Does anyone add vitamins to the macro count? How do we know how to choose how many macros to have?

The answer given is very thorough and easy to understand.

I was disappointed that we needed to drop some macros in order to track any micros. But I dropped two so I could to track potassium (since doc says I need more of it) and fiber. When I logged in some Easter lamb, I was surprised to learn it contained a lot of potassium. So I wondered how it compared to beef and discovered all the meats - beef, chicken, pork, lamb, and most fish* are good sources of potassium. I've always thought of meat only in terms of protein.

*Note: scallops, shrimp, lobster and anchovies are lower in potassium.

@DNjoys Are you using MFP to track? @Ceriusly1 @hicim705 And I am using Chonometer. I LOVE all of the deep information I am getting on my micros and macros.

@Dianedoessmiles1 - Yes, I'm using the MFP tracker but only because we were allowed to track one meal. Otherwise it's very overwhelming to me. I usually log everything I eat in a paper notebook, but miss the macros, micros that way.

@DNjoys Using an app to track is overwhelming to me, too, and I have always used paper and pen, but when nothing seems to work, I need to shake things up. Nutrition tracking is the Healthy Habit for week 4. As I researched it, I found Conometer. It's definitely a learning experience, but the free version tracks everything.

@DNjoys What do you mean you had to drop Macros to track potassium and fiber? There are only 3 macros... carbs, fat and protein which the percentages can be changed but they can't be removed. Same goes for micro nutritients., unless I'm missing something. I track exclusively on MFP and this is what is tracked.

@Catwmncat Are you using the paid version? I think maybe @DNjoys meant she had to change a micro. It's one of the reasons I don't like the MFP tracker. On the free version, you can only track 2 micronutrients at a time.

@Catwmncat , @Ceriusly1 - Cat, I don't have the options you show. I have 5 slots to choose between macros and micros as Ceri shows.

@Ceriusly1 and @DNjoys I use the FREE version, but on the app on my phone.

Checking the website, which I hardly ever go to, I see that only 5 nutrients can be tracked and you can change both Macro and Micro.

I find there is much more available on the app and a lot of thing are much easier to do, like entering food into the tracker and searching for a saved recipe or food vs scrolling thru the entire list.

@Catwmncat - Thanks for that info. I only do Internet on my phone in emergencies - and now to check the team banners since I've discovered phones only show the middle 1/3 of the banner and some of my members were never seeing the entire thing.

Because of the banner issue, and other differences, this season's intro questions on my team included what device they access MFP with. Five of my members use the phone app exclusively; 10 use the computer unless it's an emergency; 8 use a combo of phone and computer.

I'll be sure to let those who can use the app know that they have more tracking options than with computer in case they aren't aware of that since we have another week to go.
